- This is my second GoPro video on this channel. It shows me grooming and racking up my mare before flatting her and jumping a few jumps on her. After, I will untack her, shower her, clean her stall, and get hay for her stall before she goes back.
I recently moved barns due to school, but Ariel quiet likes this new location and barn.
Yes, my mare is pregnant and yes it is safe to jump her at this stage in her pregnancy. It is safe and recommended to keep mares in their regular work routine and keep them healthy and fit. It is safe to jump pregnant mares up until their fourth to fifth month of pregnancy. It is safe to ride them up until their seventh to eighth month of pregnancy. Ariel just past her second month of pregnancy and has a healthy foal growing. She has no baby bump or belly yet, the GoPro lense gives her the appearance of having a fat belly in some shots.
Just keep in mind that this is how I groom, tack up, and ride my horse. Everyone has different ways of doing these things.

I have a question! How long are you allowed to ride your horse when they are pregnant? Like how far into the pregnancy do you have to stop? Is it like 4 months or am I totally off?
It is completely safe to ride them up to 7-8 months into their pregnancy. You can jump them safely up until the 4th month. Only 17% of the final weight of the foal develops in the first two trimesters (first 7-8 months). Once the baby starts growing a lot and the mare begins to actually develop a "baby bump" then it is not beneficial to ride them. The weight of the foal causes their center of gravity to change and therefore it is harder to carry and balance a rider and work themselves well. Once you stop riding at 7-8 months it is recommended to continue doing exercise and work all the way up until they give birth, the last thing you need is a fat mare trying to do a labor intensive activity such as giving birth. Usually you can lunge and free run them up until their due date as long as they are comfortable and you don't push them too hard, it is good to keep in mind that they are literally growing another horse inside of them and that affects a lot.
