THANK YOU! ❤ This is the 6th video I've watched but the 1st one that made sense. with all the others, I felt like they wanted me to already know the answer to my question before I bothered to look it up. You're awesome! thank you

Your video came in handy. Just bought my first glass cutter, so 😆 Excited 👷🤗
Thank you!!! I'm going to practice on old photo frame glass before I try my house window glass.
Thanks for the great video! Just enough information. You seem genuine. The puppies helped too 🥰
Open sec
Your dogs are lovely!! i'm going to test this tomorrow, you make it look easy :)
"Now really narrow cuts are hard" breaks it perfectly
sometimes it all works for me, sometimes the glass breaks. thx!
Thank you, much appreciated! I broke a picture frame but have glass from a bigger one, its cheaper to have a glass cutter on hand & know how to use it for projects than to throw something away that's still very usable like the window pane you fixed!
excellent, glad we could help. thx!
Thank u for posting this video
Do I apply pressure when cutting
Awesome vid!

Eric nice job!..Bobby + Sharon
Thanks for the nice video. I've got a piece of older glass to cut that is about 2-3 times as thick. Can it be done in the same manner?
+0017Bulldog i don't think so, thick glass is best left to the professionals. thx!
Love the mistake and fix!
I love the dogs at the end
the Labradors make glass cutting fun!
thank you amazing
thanks. I was looking for a video to help me figure out my glass cutter. what kind of oil did you use? my glass is for a fish tank hood made 1/8" too long, so I might use vegetable oil
veg oil will work. thx!
very good helpful doggos 10/10
Thanks am restoring a lead glass cabinet haven't cut glass for many moons forgot the oil and my glass cutter was somewhat old.
Love your bogs
thank u soo much .
Great video Eric...the oil filled glass cutters are the best,I use a pistol grip oil filled glass cutter, personal preference...I make stained glass panels and also make glass pieces out of old glass windows like the one in your video...I just got 12 6 panel and 2 ,8 panel Windows in paid 6 bucks a window....after I'm done, they sell like hot cakes....you should do a video on making stained glass using the foil tape method, that's what I prefer....Stu.
+stuart sullenbarger i have a garage full of old storm windows...
Happy New YEAR!!!
+lechatboote thx! eric.
I am trying to cut down mirrors into small decorative ones. I need to know how to make circular cuts, PLEASE!
Did you figure it out?
What are the notches for? What is the ball on the need of the handle used for? How do you use both?
Just a tip...when you are repairing a glass panel, and the glass is removed, pull the pins out,and turn the window over, and use a puddy knife to pop out the old glazing....works for me.
+stuart sullenbarger good point Stuart, thanks for that, eric.
Nice video! Happy 2016:-)
Oh my day's i cannot seem to cut my glass haha i have a silverline glass cutter similar to the basic one you have what am i doing wrong? hellllp
Wow FAST subscribe I love this
Cheers, my problem was I wasn't using an oil. Made a huge difference..
yes, when my friend showed me how to cut glass with oil in the cutter, it made it a lot easier. thx!
I have heard that linseed oil will help soften the old putty which can be a real bear to get out and it's a good idea to coat the plain wood with any paint, sealer, primer or linseed oil.
Happy New Year
+Rev John O'Toole Yes, Rev, i am fixing a window this week and will show the linseed oil coating the wood before putting in the glazing. to remove old putty, i have found a sharp tool works pretty well. thx! eric.
+Rev John O'Toole We used to prime the panes before installing the glass.
+GardenFork yep, when ever I chose that method because I was in a hurry, I would damage the wood.
can this method be used in an aquarium glass?what kind of oil should be used?
not sure how to cut fish tank glass, sorry!
THE DOGS :O
I was told Fletcher is a great brand of glass cutter. Which is the best one if your only gonna use it every now and again.
i'll check that out, i have a nicer one a window repair guy gave me, not sure the brand, but it is spring loaded and flows nicely. worth the investment. thx!
Hey, Eric. Just curious but why did you dip the glass cutter in oil when it has its own reservoir? Just curious.
+Ray James just habit i guess! ;) eric.
I heard that little round ball on the end of the cutter is used to tap the score. That puts micro breaks in the glass to insure a good break. You just lightly tap with it, starting on one end and tapping about a half inch along the cut. I don't know if what I'm saying is recommended by experts, but it is what I was told.
i've read that as well Ric, otherwise why would it be there, right?
I've bought these cheap glass cutters, and never do they make that "tearing" sound. The wheel-(blade) just drives over it like rubber on the road. Even when new. I hate them. Just wasted another pane of glass. Guess I need to find a more expensive cutter. Thanks for sharing.
Those dogs!
thx!
Nevertheless, you make great videos. Regards,,,
+Ray James thx for the kind words Ray! eric.
Aw, my friend has a glass cutter laying around but has not idea what it was/is. How i know, and can cut my candle holders and know how to do it.
My favorite part was the closed caption transcript that shows '(UPBEAT POP MUSIC)" when the black dog is on the screen, although there's no actual music. Perhaps '(UPBEAT POP MUSIC)' is the name of the dog?
:) Eric.
One question - You're using an oil fed glass cutter, why are you dipping it in oil with every cut?
will this work on acrylic glass?
no, sorry!
I would liked to see him use the generic cutter like mine.I've cut plenty of glass with the results being about 70/30.Little fractures that you KNOW will crack.Especially that little
trim he took off. That's where I've lost the most pieces.
+halfpack69 yeah, it's not an easy skill to master. I still crack glass. Thx!
never used the oil before ill have to try it next time
+swampratman2000 the oil made a big difference for me, before that, it was always much harder . thx!
Almost forgot......HAPPY NEW YEAR....
+stuart sullenbarger thx!
Love your canine babies.....
What are the teeth on the green glass cutter for?
I think. just an idea. but I think that those teeth are for measuring thickness of glass. or possibly they could be for breaking off small parts. I wouldn't recommend bending with them for any glass pieces much larger than a coke bottle cap.
Wow...a garage full of Windows huh.....check out youtube on how to make a curio cabinet out of old Windows...your wife will love it..I've made a few..
I suck at cutting glass. Last time I did it, it took like 7 tries. I'll try using oil next time.
+Nicholas Smerk yeah, the oil did the trick for me, made a big difference, eric.
those triangle thingies are called push points or glazing push points.
yes! thx for that.
🎉
What oil ??
almost any kind will work. vegetable oil works. thx!
this looks easy but I just ruined two large panes, to total of 3 tries and I still get glass shattered all over...maybe I am not pressing firm enough. I notice the little wheel in my glass cutter has a lot of side to side play maybe I need to buy a new tool. This one I have is made in China but I do not know where to buy one of better quality that is not made in China.
are you related to chuck Norris? you resemble him
you are a very nice guy btw ... i work in glass workshop in my town actually and as you said its hard and easy in the same time.
thanks for the kind words! glass cutting is not easy. thx!
I'm kind of quietly laughing to myself when you mention the "putty" around the glass, but then I can see that the entire window frame looks like all the putty has fallen out decades ago. Did you reglaze the entire thing while you had it down?
Also, a quick note about the glass cutter. I have a really nice one (same thing with an oil reservoir) but the lady at the stained glass studio where I bought it told me that none of them at their studio use oil in their cutters. They simply use them dry. Oil doesn't hurt, it just makes for a bit more clean-up. I used to dip my cutters in kerosene. The fun with Kerosene is that it evaporates in about a minute, so it's not too messy.
+sooth15 yes, i know there isn't any putty on this window ;) but i wanted to make it more about the measuring and cutting. i have an older vid on window glazing that is very popular, and I have to glaze - putty some windows this week and will make a new glazing vid as well. i was never very good at glass cutting until i started using oil, it may be that for the person who only cuts glass a few times a year, the oil helps. thx again, eric.
What toilet paper does he use? Lol
I was only watching at your dog
Scooter
Could you not put safety gear on?
Take that little glass cutter into a jewelry store and rob them blind
The use of oil is overrated. And is a pain in some cases. I worked jn a glass shop and we had a customer who would order hundreds of pieces. 3 X 6's and 6 X 12's. One time a guy cut them and used oil on every cut. Cleaning oil off of 400 pieces of glass is no fun at all and adds tons of time to the job.
Framing square, not T-square, and why do people always think we need to see their animals.
thanks for the suggestion. we love our pups, thought you might too. sorry! have a good holiday.
Why are you dipping it in oil ,if it has a built in oil resevoiur. It is the good one your using right ,not the cheapy one. Doesn,t make much sense. Mark
that is a framing square, friend.....a "T" square is a drafting tool for use on a drafting table and has an appearance like a "T"... just saying... all old engineers that took drafting in college before computers had to buy one and more tools from the book store. :) feel free to fact check me
you've got it to a T! in the bigger picture, its a thing to help you cut glass straight, not to fact check. thx!
I'm truly sad that you don't have other things you'd rather be doing instead of correcting minor things on other people's work. Like maybe make your own video man... And lift people up when you can. No one ever looks good bringing others down. Fact check me if you want.
pretttttttty sure you shouldn't let your dogs drink that water with all those leave in it and stuff.. mad bugs and shit are on those leaves now there in the drinking water.
+shawno mullen Hey Shawno, thanks for your concern, the Labradors are water dogs, and are pretty impervious to pond water. Our one Lab wont drink city tap water, she doesn't like the chlorine taste. thx!
The people who make 20 minute videos dont care that sometimes a person is doing research on something & wants to watch 2 or 3 videos.
Don't get me wrong, I don't understand a video explaining Rocket science or Algebra needs to be long, but get to the point for everything else.
Watch vids at 2x speed. 😀
@@gardenfork not an option. Lol
@@gardenfork thanks 4 your short & to the point video.
Two mistakes brother. First of all, you are putting too much pressure on a piece of SSB. Second is you should have "ran-out" the cut right after you scored it. I say this in this way because you were trying to cut it instead of just scoring it. If you want to be good at cutting glass you have to understand 2 things. Finesse and quickness.
