- Hey everyone! We're Eric Lagerstrom and Paula Findlay!
Here's a new thing we thought we would try to adapt from our podcast. "Bike Tech With Eric" is a crowd favorite and here's what a weekend working on bikes in the TTL pro shop (the garage) looks like. Changing tubeless tires, installing power meters on cranks on bikes, running brake cables, this one has a little bit of everything.

Eric, I know you're not ready to retire from triathlon.... but when that day comes, I hope you'll consider opening a bike shop. You're the kind of mechanic everyone hopes to see at a bike stand, and I think at least a few of us would be glad to be your customers.
Hey Erin, it's definitely on my list of things I'd like to do! I'd love to have a community hub TTL concept store with coffee and a little mechanic action on the side :) mostly just to hang out, but bikes could be wrenched
Last transition is all time
As a retired Irish dancer and aspiring triathlete, thanks for throwing that jig in there during the wattshop front end build
🎶bike tech with Eric🎶
You were definitely in a "mood" this week. Definitely made me laugh at times. Agree with what many others have said, super talented guy in so many completely different ways. Great athlete, but so good at many other things. Must be so much fun just opening up new boxes of gear to build up. That's quite a pizza plate on the back of the gravel bike.
Giving the people what they want!! Fun bike shop video and that last video game song was dope
Thanks! I love it!
That was so good. Really like the David Benedict bit
it's just cool because you cut the f*ing cleaning off the old sealant 😅
love the video eric, what a treat that was
TTL headquarters. Love it.
I want that gravel bike. Nice!
Great Stuff!
All the 'garage chat' in the TTL Zwift Group Ride this morning makes so much sense now that I have watched this latest video!
ahhh yeah that would have been odd haha
@@ThatTriathlonLife it did get me super intrigued to watch the Vlog tho! FOMO real bad haha
Saw your van on the way to Vegas.
I have the wattshop adjustable angled spacers on my TT and love them the wattshop rocks
We're digging them too! Next week we head to the tunnel to test different angles and see how they compare to the stock bars 👌
Like your Haircut Eric :) amazing video as always btw
Eric your technical skills and ability to do full bike builds from scratch is super impressive, especially with the ever changing technology out there now. Kudos! 👏
thank you! Doing my best
The hair and lack of beer! TTL
Soo late to the blog today, gutted we were away in the van. Another awesome video, you are certainly a great bike builder as well as rider Eric, loved the music vibe as always suspension gravel bikes cables changing, soon bikes will actually ride themselves if things develop further!. I know by now you won't perhaps read this, just wanted to let you know I didn't miss it as I never ever miss everyweek1! Stay safe both see you next week, much love from the UK x PS, don't cut your hair Eric, you will eventually reach an age were your trying to keep it not get it cut off! Lol
we always read all the comments! And appreciate you following along and watching every week :) I keep waiting for bikes that are like hoverboards.. just floating, no more tire friction.. that's gotta be coming soon
@@ThatTriathlonLife now your talking, At my age that might help me win a race or two! Lol. take care both much love from the UK x
I'm glad Paula approved the first part of the video despite your hair Eric.... haha! Another great video!!
I'm not gonna say I was happy about my hair but I was filming this in a big hurry before getting out for a ride so I just didn't realize 🤦♂️ And wasn't going to un-build and re-build the bike for a bad hair day haha
there's that coffee I've been waiting for! thank you!
sorry it took so long 😅
@@ThatTriathlonLife perfection takes time. I love it. ❤️
Love more thoughts on that dropper as you use it
I'll definitely do some updates! So far I'm just massively stoked that I can activate it with the double tap shifters and don't need a separate dropper trigger. Should be another month or so before the trails dry out enough I can really get the most out of it
From someone follicley challenged, keep livin your best shaggy haired life !
😂 will do.
I mean he’s not wrong Axs droppers on everything!! 😂❤
🤟
Wasn't going to say anything since Im bald but that hair, damn dude.....Hehehe. Seriously you guys really do a great job with this. Thankful your for sharing the ins and outs of TTL.
It was a hectic week lol didn't check the mirror before filming that 🤦♂️
Dude, you should make a “how I edit our videos” episode. You’re an inspiration, bro.
I've thought about doing a BTS where someone films me filming and maybe explaining a little bit of editing philosophy. Filming something makes it take twice as long though, so filming someone filming something... might take us all day to make coffee and go for a run haha
I love the shiv sooo much hope one day
For the TT bikes, how did the Zipp Vuka bars with the integrated blip circuit board work out? Are you back to the blip box with the Wattshop bars? Can't wait to see the gravel bike finished!
I was a big fan of the Vuka bars, but I want to try some different extension shapes and with the new wireless blips, no blip box is needed (except for initial setup)
Hate to disagree with Paula, but I think the hair is on point bro.
Thank you for your support 😂
Thanks for another cool video. I've got an off-topic question: I could not find the artist of that wonderful painting of yours (the one with the polar bears, mostly red colors). Can you please help me here? I really like the style!
That's Jason Carter, based out of Canmore!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I'm quite curious in what you're looking for in a fit. I've been playing around a lot with both my own fit as my wife's fit. Some observations I had:
- Lower hands makes it easier to put my shoulders closer together, whereas with "high" hands, I have to actively pull them together.
- I really want my elbows to be supported rather than the arm cup starting somewhere along my forearm.
- If I go too low I can't hide my head easily.
Could you share a "fit" session at some point?
hey tom, we'll go into a lot more detail with this when we go to the wind tunnel next week. Great questions and I feel the same way about the shoulders and high hands. That video should be ready two weeks from today. We'll probably also get into it on our podcast, if you're into podcasts
@@ThatTriathlonLife Looking forward to that video! Also into podcast, the TTL podcast is one of my staples on the trainer.
How do you put the tire on with out the sealant leaking out ? Since you didn’t put the tire on fully and poured sealant in?
The size of the tire sort of keeps it in hammock-style. It can get messier with road tires but I still like doing it that way. I pour in sealant, then rotate the wheel so that where I’ve already gotten the bead on the rim, then finish putting the bead on the top of the tire. Hope that makes sense.. hard to describe on text.
Amazing Video as always
What powermeter is it? I am looking
And we need Nick for next bike build unless you do the spin around video
it's the Quarq AXS power meter spider. I built it with a single chainring and 170mm cranks.
Nick is supposed to come for the concept video I have for the Tarmac 👌
@@ThatTriathlonLife thank you!!
the best part...? a partner that doesn't complain when you get a new bike!!!
haha yeah as long as her new bikes get built too 😉
Important question: when did you go from the Rocket to the La Marzocco? (I think that's the Linea Mini not the Micra)
We actually had a profitec pro500 before and switched to the La Marzocco around the new year. It's the mini, yep. Our thinking with the mini vs the micra is that it can handle future usage in a small TTL shop space. #dreams
@@ThatTriathlonLife I love the steam power the LMLM can put out. It definitely can handle small shop volume, though you'll probably want to pair it with a grinder that can take that kind of volume (Mazzer Mini doserless is what I'd suggest there)
As usual, thanks for the great video :) Totally triathlon unrelated - can you tell me the name of the artist of the piece in the background at Minute 1:24? Thanks!
Jason Carter!
envious on your bike build skills....esp since i just dropped my bike off at local mechanic to get ready for spring.........$$$$ shit
yeah that was my initial motivation for building my own bikes. Good work that you trust is expensive and not always easy to find
That workspace needs more lights I think.
Good idea.
Let it grow…. Ur hair 😂🙏🏻⚔️🇯🇵
😂 the chlorine damage could use some taming, but not going full buzzcut or anything
Guess the soundtrack can’t be Sunlight every week
The only thing the shop is missing is a coffee setup
yeah the coffee setup is just inside the house, but in my dream world it's in the garage hangout spot as well :) That might have to wait until we have an ACTUAL TTL headquarters that isn't our house
Do you really need your hands at nose level? Some angle is good to guide the air, but I don’t feel like your frontal area will become much smaller from this change. Looking at Filippo Ganna his arms are just at a slight angle. I would try to raise the bars instead.
totally depends on the person, but plenty of athletes have seen benefits with higher hands directing wind flow more smoothly towards their legs and having less swirling air in the space between top tube and chest. But we'll see in the wind tunnel next week. Not married to the high hands, but worth testing
Cruxxxxxx
bike is dirty man video is super but you could've washed er before
It’s my bike that he was working on. And it’s used so yes it’s dirty 😂
You can say whatever you want but this Eric guy seems super rude guy IRL.
Toys and more toys!
Love that this is a new category we can look forward to enjoying. 🚴♂️🚲🚵♂️
