    I meant J.None - not Cesar. I DO know the difference :)

    A couple of fun facts:
This was a working warehouse that did not shut down, their was constant industrial machines running while they were recording the video.
J None was terrified to play, he was out of practice. He figured as a musician, he needed to learn the whole thing. Nope. Layne says, that's not how we do it. You only have to practice those short parts that you are playing.
They have done three with the post apocalyptic look. This one, Dream On, and Seven Nation Army.
    I'm enjoying your reactions!!

Earl Elkin was ine of the original menbers, together with Layne ans Geoff. He left the group a couple of years ago, for undisclosed personal reasons. Shortly afterwards JNone also left for the Navy and Cesar came instead.
Earl was tenor 1, with what Geiff described as a laserbeam voice.

This was such a surprise - to see the debut of Violayne. Many of us think of this as the first of the three post apocalyptic pieces they’ve done. Later they did a cover of Aerosmith’s Dream On. By that time Earl, the high tenor, and J had left. Dream On featured Omar Cardona as their guest artist and his bestie Cesar, had joined at that time.
Later they followed that with their cover of White Stripes Seven Nation Army - this time featuring Anthony Guargiula.
Earl was one of the original members of the group. He, Geoff and Layne met in middle school and started singing together eventually forming the group 4:2:Five which later became VoicePlay .
Earl’s voice is unique. His tenor is very tightly focused. You might check out their Queen in 5 Minutes medley which features the same five members, where Earl has the spotlight. Be sure to pay attention to the “characters” that the other four members are portraying. The storyline makes a little more sense that way.
Another one of my favorites that covers the same five members is their cover of Tennessee Whiskey. That one is just pure vocal beauty.
By the way, you might try saying check out their VoicePlay channel instead of page. It’s a little less of a tongue twister😂.

Also, 100% forgot they did a collab with Kurt Hugo Schneider of a twenty-one pilots mashup that I thoroughly enjoy that's just Eli, Earl, Geoff, and Layne

Nice to watch someone who actually listens to the lyrics. I see a lot of reactors who have a total lack of understnading. Maybe i'm just pedantic but words matter. :) Thanks for a thoughtful reaction.

Earl has a distinct laser tenor that you'll recognize in other videos from the time he was a member. There's some times when no one else could fill his spot because his tone is so exceptional.
If you do their cover of Bang! you'll meet another feature tenor Deejay Young who can go stratosphericly high with awesome runs.

That's J None before the US Navy. Cesar wasn't in VP yet. The other guy you didn't recognize is Earl Elkins who was a very early member but left for personal reasons. If you react to Queen in 5 minutes, or Boy Bands in 5 Minutes. I love this one. It is the first of the post-apocalyptic trilogy consisting of Warriors, Dream On (Aerosmith), and Seven Nation Army (White Stripes).

"The Big Gentleman" is Earl Elkins, one of the original members I believe. He left a few years ago, sadly and is missed very much. He is a tenor 1 with some CRAZY high notes and all sorts of personality. Did you notice J. None also playing violin?

  • @arnonyhm4055

The one you didn't recognize was Earl, a former member of VoicePlay. There were some members leaving and joining since 2012, so depending on the age of the VoicePlay video you're watching, the members differ.
    VoicePlay's initial members in 2012:
    - Geoff Castellucci (Bass)
    - Layne Stein (Baritone, Beatbox)
    - Elizer (Eli) Jacobson ((Rock-)Tenor)
    - Earl Elkins (Tenor)
    - Tony Wakim (Baritone)
    - 12/2016 Tony left VoicePlay (still running Pattycake Productions with Layne, the studio where VoicePlay's and some of Geoff's videos and a lot of genuine videos are produced)
    - 03/2018 J.None (Baritone) joined
    - 06/2020 Earl left
    - 05/2021 J.None (temporary?) left for an engagement in the US-Navy
    - 07/2021 Cesar de la Rosa (Baritone) joined

A great one to hear Earl's vocal abilities is Queen in 5 Minutes (and its one of my favorites... just really good!).

Hey! Nice! You didn't say "Voicepay!" 😉 I kid. This is such a great one! But did you notice that not only is VioLayne in this, but J. None fiddles around a bit too? On a classic violin, no less. Also, another thing of note, Layne is apparently beatboxing WHILE playing the violin!

  • @lkayh
    @lkayh Před 5 měsíci +5

You also get a little Vio-J! And Earl Elkins, one of the original members of Voiceplay (he since left for personal reasons). He sang high tenor for the group and Eli sang lower-still love it when he gets solos in his mid range.
Now for the sequels, Dream On, and then Seven Nation Army. (My feed is so clogged I may have missed where you already reacted to one or both songs.).
I do think that snap told us Layne broke a string. You can see a bit of it hanging off the bow.
    Terrific reaction!

The guy you didn't know was Earl Elkins he was a founding member. He grew up with Geoff and Layne. He was their high tenor although he can sing lower too.
The best one with him I think is Queen In Five Minutes. It's one of my favorite videos by them 😊

As a Raven's fan, I absolutely feel you on the "Leave me alone" part. If you really want to hear Earl shine, I personally love his voice most in the previously suggested Panic! in 4 minutes The Trapped, Billie Eilish one is a prequel to this) and Queen in 5.

Thanks for your reaction! Yes, we Voice Players love to see "Violayne" and J None also playing violin here was a treat as well. The guy you did not know was Earl, and he is in the older covers (He left Voice Play for personal reasons around the time of the pandemic and Cesar came in to replace him).

You should check out their Queen in 5 mins vid. Also, their Trapped: Billie Eilish in 3 mins, followed by their Panic! in 4 mins (Parts 1&2) in that order. The three vids together make a little mini movie :)

Here’s a simplified timeline of the band members from 2013-now:
Sing-Off lineup: Earl, Tony, Eli, Layne, Geoff (+ Honey)
Tony left the group after the Sing-Off and now co-owns Pattycake Productions with Layne. Replaced by J None.
Lineup until 2020: Earl, J None, Eli, Layne, Geoff
Earl left in 2020 for personal reasons. VP started adding features to fill in the missing spot.
J None left in 2021 to join the Navy Band, leaving them down two members. Cesar replaced J None.
Current lineup: Eli, Cesar, Layne, Geoff (+ a featured artist)

They have three of these post apocalyptic looking videos. No featured in this video. The tenor 1 is former founding member Earl Elkins Jr who left the group in 2020. J. None is a member in this video.

Earl Elkins was part of Voiceplay's original crew. He went to school with Geoff and Layne and was part of the group for 20 + years. He left around 2020.

I thought this was a ways before J. None left. Earl's last song with them was "Just Sing," was that right after this? It would have been nice if Earl had said a goodbye to the fans, but I assume he had good reasons why he didn't. I mean, it's not like an artist owes anything to their fans when they leave, but it is considerate to acknowledge the fans for their years of fandom. I don't know, maybe it's just me.
