The allotment definitely helps me to de-stress and unwind from all of the other crap that builds up in my head over the course of the week. I do find it very cleansing if I've been up there for a few hours... green is a soothing colour so when everything is in flower and the trees are in full leaf... I guess it kinda revitalises me. So yeah, the allotment is an important form of medication for me. Top marks for this video. Cheers Adam

Hi Amanda , very brave of you to talk about this. I definitely find my time on the allotment is important to help me destress. I have also found the CZcams gardening community so supportive. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Keep up the great work. Take care. Nick

Hello Amanda, I can totally understand everything that you have said and it is true. Getting out into the garden helps me to connect with my immediate surroundings. And I never thought of it before as being in the moment. Thank you for your courageous share. Great video and I look forward to joining you on your gardening journey. Happy Gardening! Catherine

Hey lady - I watched this a few days ago, and didn’t have the words to comment then.
Firstly - thank you for standing up and speaking out for mental health issues, it is such a taboo, as you say, but the more we talk about it the better that gets.
Secondly- I totally agree with you.
I have acute anxiety - now medicated, but not so much so that I don’t cease to function sometimes.
I also cared for my father through cancer this year and lost him in December - on both counts the plot has, and will be a sanctuary. I always say no matter what is going on, the rest of the world stops at that gate!
Finally - best of luck in your own journey, you are ace and an inspiration. Cheers. X

Ophelias Allotment im so sorry to hear about your dad! Losing someone so close is extremely hard. Anxiety also is cripling at times and i too am medicated however my garden and my chickens im hoping eventually will enable me to come off meds but 1 step at a time. This explains why i havent seen much from you of late. Stay strong and i hope to see you soon on here when you are ready xx

Good day to you Amanda !! As you my be aware I suffer from agoraphobia, anxiety and depression for over 12 years now and you are exactly right in what you are saying. My garden is my only access to the outside world and even then I only can do 10 minutes at a time but I'm lucky I've got two good friends who help me !! Iove to sow the seeds and happily watch them grow in to seedlings and pot them on until they are ready to go into the ground. Then I get the enjoyment of watch my friends plant them !!

Kenneth Toulson thankyou and yes so many ppl hide it for fear of being judged, well i know i certainly did but i think the more we talk about it the more aware others will become and hopefully the stigma will eventually be no more. Thankyou for watching :)

Hi Amanda and thanx for this video.I too was diagnosed with anxiety issues and depression and I find it extremely helpful to "live the moment",so much so that I actually moved away from town to a rural area and I'm very fortunate to be working in the horticultural business propagating fruiting and ornamental trees.Look forward to seeing more of your vid's and all best wishes for 2018

Hi Amanda I have been following you a while now, and although I don't suffer from depression when I'm on my plot, if only to check up on it or water in the summer it gives me a sense of calm. Quite often I just go and make myself a drink down there and sit in the shed and I suppose practice mindfulness (didn't know what it was until you explained it!).
I think you have achieved such a lot down there and with all your bottling etc and of course the chickens and you have have inspired me to try growing a lemon tree, although mine will have to stay in the polytunnel as I haven't a greenhouse. Looking forwards to seed planting again. Jane

Frugalling Along hi jane the lemon tree will do just fine in the poly tunnel and do keep me updated how it goes. I also love to make a cuppa and just sit on my bench (more so in the summer months) thankyou for watching and commenting and happy seed sowing :)

I could not agree more! It has really helped me the last few years. I am glad you brought this up, most don't want to talk about the subject. I find it awkward to bring up as a guy, to be honest. I don't mean to be sexist, but it is far more common for women to talk about how they feel. All the best in 2018:)

I have found that my crafting hobby helps me in the winter months. I have been very inspired though watching you and seeing how well you have done and how well it has helped you. I have just this week got in some soil, seed trays and a few packets of seeds... in readiness for the growing season. I thought I'd get started now instead of leaving it until it's almost to late. I could't see any shallots, is it to early for shallot seeds in the shops? tfs. xx

Inventeddoor shallots are usually planted out in october/november and overwintered but you can still do them now, have you tried the garden centers? X

Excellent vid, thank you. I have bipolar and tourette's syndrome and have found having my allotment so helpful in manageing both those conditions. Although today has been a bot of a struggle I know there's things I need to do when the ground has warmed up a bit.

Hi Amanda I totally agree with you ,I have suffered from depression and anxiety for years and couldn't see away forward until my therapist suggested growing something and like you I started with a tomato plant .I thought it was going to be a total waste of time but as the plant grew I could feel my self getting excited to see the changes every week and taking care of it .Since then I have never looked back and my love for gardening and growing veg has stayed with me and it's been 5 years now .I still take medication but I know that if I can't cope with something I can just walk away to my garden and give my mind some peace .It really is truly amazing that something as simple as gardening can make such a positive difference when everything seems so dark .Thank you Amanda for doing this video x
