We've got 3 normal games under our belt now so we are gonna break out alliances for the first time tomorrow. Looks super fun.
Man, I was holding off of buying the Dark Hordes but this makes it waaaay more difficult. I agree that Dark Aliiances is awesome! Kinda reminds me of Spirit Island in the sense that it makes you despair and think everything is lost at first and then you just become a powerhouse in the later turns.
Love it with Dark Alliances. Don't think I would play it without.
Great video! Love the expansion's new characters. Haven't played with the expansion yet, but maybe this weekend. You did however switch the player figurines. Figure with the yellow base is the purple character and the figure with the purple base is the yellow character.
Love playing with the miniatures. Really do enjoy playing this game.
Hi Tom! You've got the Arkwright mini in the purple ring and the Haunted Recluse mini in the yellow ring (reversed)!
I can not speak too much about it, but the next campaign adds some nice elements to the game, and some amazing ones. Many of our groups been playing base game and moxt loved the base and some disliked the base game. After a week we started to add the expansions, and played same groups, the DA expansion all but a small few loved the DA expansions and all it is a much better game with it.
Anyone liked the base game will like these expansions, anyone that like these should keep an eye out for the next crowdfunding expansion.
I wish this expansion was easier to find. Kind of stinks that it will likely be in a couple years when the next kickstarter fulfills that most of us will be able to get our hands on it
2nd printing coming, with new expansion.
Great review! I have played about 12 times with my base RTDT game and looking forward to playing the Alliances. After watching this more than ever!
The miniatures have added so much to every one of the games played. Of course the mini look and game immersion is great. One great advantage it’s so easy to tell where everything is with the diverse design of the minis so the minis helps to keep on top of what we need to do during the game.
Question: should a new player definitely play the base version first before adding the Alliances?
Yes!
How many battlements can be placed? I used all the tokens for the battlements and wondered if you could keep placing more
"Put the miniatures in bags!" *gasp*
I'm probably not a "purest" board gamer. I love the "over production" I bought the game, then I got the minis, now I'm getting the expansion. We've had fun with the game though Adversary battles were confusing regarding what was happening with the retreat mechanic
I've got this. First play through was kinda underwhelming. Then I played it a second time and now it's the go-to for group game nights, even built a lazy Susan for the board. I recommend Alliances to anyone who feels like the curve is a little too shallow, but would warn against playing it with less experienced players. Overall, great game and an excellent review. Thanks!
Wasn't there also an expansion with bigger/taller buildings or something?
The Covenant expansion is the newer expansion. Reviewed here:

@@thedicetower Thanks for that. Regarding the Dark Horde expansion. Is there anything language dependent in that box? I've found a good price on a French webstore (I'm in Europe) and it says "language French" with all items, including this expansion and the coffers.
Skulls were never a threat in the base game. In fact, we WANTED them all over the place. If you didn't have a building with skulls in range during your turn, it often meant you were missing out on 2 spirit. All the stuff that manipulated skulls or removed them was likewise useless to less than useless (nobody EVER got the blessed scepter gear).
Played with the Dark Alliances expansion over the weekend. It makes the game hella hard at first, but makes the end game slightly easier.
We still lost though, but that’s mostly our fault 🤣
My negative thought about this expansions it adds more stuff to read around the board. Very difficult with more players.
I don't care for the design of this game. Bland text and boxes.
