I have 2 x 1.6tdci 2013 fiestas - had one for 4 years, the other 2.5 years. Know the cars fairly well. Both mine had issues and lost power/cut out - ended up breaking down as they wouldn't run at all. Checked codes, used some fuel cleaners, EGR cleaners etc. Got low fuel pressure code. Ended up both cars needed new fuel filters. I was a bit worried about the priming process after installation, that's why id never tackled them before. But i did both without issue. 1 hours work roughly - new Bosch filters were like £40 quid each IIRC.

This is the issue I’ve got… same car 1.6tdci 2009 plate, 74,000 miles…. Starts up runs and every now and then it would cut out… now it started and ran for 30mins on tick over as I was cleaning the inside and had the heaters on,,,, it cut out and now picks and chooses when it wants to start if it does it cuts out 10 to 15 seconds later,,, I’ve just serviced it and done the diesel filter but only a cheap filter brand..? Plugged the car in and no faults stored,, when the car starts it runs super smoothly and quiet…

Plug it in, had very similar on my mk2 focus 1.6 tdci were it would go into engine malfunction went booting it.
It was a boost solenoid which is conman on this engine. £50 quid if I remember

Yes I will get it sorted and make sure I film it so if anyone has a similar issue they can rest assured hopefully!

Hope it's not a P0299 error! Was it supermarket fuel by any chance?

@@jamiepudney Had the same symptoms other than engine malfunction light. PCM error was P0229- turbo underboost. Used V-Power and thrashed it for a week to clean any carbon crap out and hasn't done it since (used ASDA fuel mostly before). That was the short story, long story I changed everything related to P0299 turbo underboost - solenoid, vac lines, vac pump, turbo, intake, sensors (map, maf, temp), throttle body, throttle pedal, fuel filter etc etc, even went on a rolling road and another garage and no-one figured what caused it. Hope you don't have the same headache I did! The reason I asked about fuel is I read somewhere the engines are sensitive to decent fuel. May have been a coincidence but I tried everything else to solve the issue and V-Power stopped it - go figure. Only used V-Power since.
