  • Does your to do list usually feel never-ending? Do you make to do lists but somehow often fail to execute them?
I used to feel the same way. Trying to manage my business, my life as a mom, and keep up with being a homeowner, I felt like I wore so many hats and couldn't keep up. But, through a little trial and error but I finally learned a fairly simple method that has helped me IMMENSELY in tackling my to do lists in a way that’s manageable, simple and practicable, and most importantly, sustainable.
As a mom I need my to do list method to be EASY, and it needs to allow for flexibility of life with kids. I think this method will help you too!

I can't stop laughing (at myself) because as I am listening and watching you fill out the time blocks, I am imagining my own time blocks scheduling 2 hours for morning coffee, 45 minutes quiet bathroom time, 1 hour playing with the dogs, 2 hours catching up on DVR shows, 2 hours to watch more "organization, minimalism and decluttering" videos, yawn.... time for a nap. 🤣🤦‍♀️

Definitely! I've bought those really expensive planners with all of the stickers, and things, intending to use them, and it happens for about a month, then they just sit. I didn't even bother with one this year, because I knew it would be a waste of money!

If anyone wants to put this idea to use in a paper planner, I've been using a Planner Pad and I love it. It has three sections that funnel down in detail. The top is basically your brain dump, with categories you can assign, then a list of to-dos for the day, then the time blocks. It's the only thing that really works for my brain, plus I love to cross things off on paper!

I get too stressed when I try to schedule tasks. Plus I'm older than you and sometimes run out of energy. So I have a "brain dump" master list that I keep adding to (and rewrite when it's got a lot crossed off so it takes up less space), and every day I look through it to pick items I hope to do that day. Then I add on the things that I also need to do that day like what I'm making for lunch and dinner, errands I have to do, laundry, cleaning tasks, my shower and exercise, and health goals. That's been working for me pretty well.

Time block - the 1/2 bathroom is my bathroom - I keep my monthly planner in there and my brain dump is done while um...sitting - and since I'm in there several times a day and at the end of the day I can go over what needs to be done - what has been done and edit as needed - cute stickers help too

I've begun giving my kids to do lists. They are six and seven, and first of all they are motivated to read because of this, and secondly they like feeling so accomplished. And depending how long it takes them often I get lenient on extras, like they can take a toy to school or an extra bed time story. Every morning they can almost independently do what they need to, and they feel responsible for themselves. Every afternoon/evening they know what needs to happen. And there is so much less fighting me on each and every thing! I used to gnash my teeth about how they would whine whenever it was time to brush their teeth or whatever. But I think it was just because it felt endless to them. I get it, my list is so long it actually is endless, but oh well.

On paper, mine is a Quadrant ( draw a cross ), label : Morning , Afternoon, Evening & Night & list items of the day in my Quadrant....if something did NOT get done, I can easily see, when I flip the page in my ultra cheap tablet & make my Quadrant the following day....This is the

Love your humor! ❤ With three kids and working full time I still love my paper calendar (weekly and monthly calendars), and one thing I do is if I don't have access to my planner (like in the middle of my work day at the nursing home) I will set an alarm for a time later in day when I know I will have time to write, and I'll then add the to do or shopping list item to the list it belongs. I also love the Coxi app for keeping all my lists straight. I have a morning list, night list, a list for all my websites/passwords, shopping, pretty much everything. And I'm a dork and have a four way color pen and assign different colors to categories on my planner. It works for me.

Usually I like these videos. But if it were really that easy all you have to do is schedule it and then you’d get it done hardly anybody would have a to do list that they can’t get done. So very optimistic approach.

You are the BEST! I have a lot of trouble motivating myself to do my spirit's real work because I'm exhausted with the pay-the-bills work I do all day. This blocking idea may be just what I need!

I recently retired and am struggling with figuring out where all my time goes and I've gotten nothing done. I have a To Do list a mile long and rarely make a dent in it. I do blame CZcams though - I go down a rabbit hole often. What's interesting to me is whenever I got overwhelmed at work, I'd do a brain dump which is what I called it. Then I'd prioritize all the tasks and put time blocks on my calendar. I never missed a deadline. So, why did it never occur to me to do the same now that I'm not working? Smacks forehead. Thanks for always keeping it real!

I've enjoyed your content. You have a natural talent for talking to the camera and conveying your thoughts in a natural genuine way. I'm not a fan of swearing, even fake swearing. It is something that has spurred make me to unsubscribe and stop watch many channels. Blocking out a letter or two doesn't stop the word from sliding through your mind. You are very articulate. You don't need to use coarse language to make your point.

Hi Kallie, Ross and Rachel were definitely NOT on a break.... I am great at the brain dump, great at scheduling, but when I get to the part of execution.... I don't want to do that particular thing. Same with meal planning. I can make a delicious meal plan but when it comes to making that particular dish when I come home from work, I don't feel like eating that dish. Any insight on what this self-sabotage is about? BTW, I love watching your videos and the highlight of my Sunday mornings is getting up, pouring my coffee and have my alone time enjoying your humour and insight!

Hi, Treena. If you don't mind me stepping in- our brain consists of three "parts" and planning is made when neocortex takes charge. It's logical and performs controlling functions. But not all the brain is so well-behaved. There are moments or even full hours (haha) when our emotions or basic needs prevail. So it's useful to look inside yourself at that moment and try to understand what is your genuine need right now. After that need is met or at least recognized, it is easier to stick to the plan. ( yeah, I am a life-coach and also the mother of two ADHD children I had to learn how this stuff worked)

The brain dumping thing...really does help just getting it out no matter how overwhelming. It somehow feels more important and you feel mire committed and it makes you rethink what must be done today vs. tomorrow
