- For a long time the LS engine has been the go-to swap when adding power to the Jeep Wrangler. However, since GM has introduced the Gen 5 LT engine in it’s newer vehicles, we now have another option for an up-to-date engine swap and this one does integrates well, has great transmission options and efficient power!

It's good to have options. I'm still glad I did a hemi conversion. Actually, anything Exodus does is incredible. I'm extremely pleased with their work.
Thanks Tim!
That 1 tire burnout in the dirt at the end really sold me! Where do i send my money?!😂
Not bashing the LT at all but it’s got some big shoes to fill. I’m not a jeep guy by any means so idk about integration issues with LS swaps with them but I’d think that’s on the installer. The power, proven reliability, affordability , availability, aftermarket support and so much more is still in the LS’s favor.
Glad to come across this channel, They do nice work! It's a lot of dedication to learn them LT swaps✊️
Buy the way I always find your videos informative and your little flash backs crack me up. THANKS
As an additional option: GM's relatively new 4.3l LV1 and LV3 V6's are space-conscious alternatives that are seriously worth considering. The new LV1/LV3 have ditched the architecture of the previous generations and gone straight to LT-based architecture. Out of the box, you're getting a 3.921" bore x 3.622" stroke (should sound VERY familiar for those that know LS1 dimensions), 285HP (5300 rpm) and 305 lb-ft (3900 rpm), and Scoggin Dickey Performance Center has already produced aftermarket cam grinds to sell to the market. Making this engine nearly bulletproof is relatively simple since the piston/con rod dimensions near exactly mirror original LS1 interrnal dimensions, meaning that sourcing bottom end parts (if you want) wouldn't be that hard to do. Has the same deck height as the LT's (9.025") which is also near exactly the same.
TL;DR: Gm's new era 4.3l V6 offers just as much if not more power than the 4.8l V8 it replaces, and utilizes a lot of LS1 internal dimensions. Lots of untapped performance to be had there.
I'm also interested in the LV1 for swaps, I hope more support comes around for them. some things I think would help reliability would be 1) a balance shaft eliminator, 2) a standard oil pump paired with oil pans, (eliminates the variable volume solenoid to simplify it ) & 3) a port injection intake.
what's not to like? 100 lbs lighter than an aluminum LS and almost the same power as a stock 4.8

this is how you fix a Ford by Installing a GM power train
Yep. At least the ones that that Dodge neutered.
Make sure to install an air/oil separator that drains the oil back to the crankcase after it's been separated because you'll get excessive carbon buildup from the crankcase ventilation on the backside of the intake valves and ports. For truck engines, the torque band should be down low not up at 4100.
That torque range is peak torque at 4,100, that is good because it’s only a 5.3
Excelente video amigo, Gracias por compartir
I acquired an L8T brand new from the factory that had fallen off its crate and the intake was damaged, so they stored it and eventually forgot to write a report and the engine basically became the dealerships. My younger brother notified me and a few months later I now have the thing sitting on a stand in my garage. Chevy factory warranty included. Now I must find a newer jeep to install it into. Thinking gladiator on one ton axles
Another great Video!!
Ah ok, glad I found this, now I understand my son a bit more. He has a 2020 Rubicon, it was a recovered jeep, no motor, trans, wheels, suspension, interior... He eventually went with a truck as a donor for his motor, and completed it last year as his senior year and 4th and final year of auto shop, and welding class, project. He also bought an older Ram, that had cab damage, and swapped a c30 crew cab onto it, shortened the frame, he started fabbing a utility tray before summer, in april...and it hasnt been touched since hahaha. His auto shops teacher? Hes old school yes, but his son was an engineer at dodge, was at srt if I remember correctly. He then went to Toyota, and now works for a fire arms mfr. But he and his son had been doing swaps of newer 5.7 6.4 and 6.2s into different things. His son, that engineer helped my son swap a 6.2 from a jeep trackhawk into his 57 belair, that belonged to my mother since new. Its awd. I dont understand the engineering to well but I love it! Hes broken it down after taking it on hot rod power tour, finally going to get it painted and cleaned up! He has a base model jeep gladiator he bought as a theft recovery again, he wants to do a cummins swap in, and monster tires. He has a uhaul truck he wants to cummins, and build a tinyhouse tow rig for use for events and such. He wants to make a lighter and stronger box before he grads from college, so thats a while away. He has a miata with an ls1, that isnt complete... an older 2dr jeep that belonged to my other son, he swapped a 22R-E from a toyota? Into, because it was free at his pt job at our county wrecker.
He sent me your way to watch videos! Glad I did as I said! Man, all you guys do wild stuff! Here I am happy with my '23 Daihatsu Hijet Jumbo, bone stock for our ranch property. And my stock sport s hahaha! My 72 challenger I got in high school, doesnt run, been thinking of doing something weird like maybe 4x4 that bastard, freak my sons out? I dunno. I wish there was a regular cab jeep truck, with a longer and slightly wider bed, maybe fold down and removeable? I was dragged up to overland expo a couple months ago, and I saw the danged weirded jeep, a regular carb, shorty with only a utility basket tray, very small. My young son the budding frankenstein builder said "dad, just buy a 2 dr jeep and I can hack it up for you, give me the new hijet for labor!" hahaha that sneaky little shit....
Hes also looking for a 3500 reg cab utl truck, no bed, he wants to build his own AEV style truck, he sold all his harley bastard bikes, and his hondas and yamahas this past summer. Only bikes he has left are a stock 48 sportster, a crf300, a trail 125, and his older sisters R1. His 91 mustang took a dump, and hes swapping a 5.7 from a challenger rt into it hahaha, and he wants to do a hellcat swap into his 74c10 step side thats dead and cobwebbing in MY workshop...my tractor and other stuff are outside hahaha...
Hopefully see you guys next year at OLX! Now that I got to see what you guys do!
Awesome 💯
This perfect been waiting for bugs to get worked out of LS
LT motors are great in their own way. They make great power. But a LS is cheaper, still phenomenal, and a HUGE aftermarket.
I'm a big GM drag racer... I still haven't moved to the LT motors yet for the reasons stated. Aftermarket and costs associated make the LS still where it's at (for me anyways).
Too expensive still
@@FrostE941 I got $2500 into building a forged piston stock rod 325 LS that makes 1040rwhp. Obviously that doesn't include the turbo and fuel system... But you flat can't do that with any other platform.
U spent $2500 and u only got 1040 horsepower 😂 😂
@@nahs3195 I'm just being honest lol. When you add in a cam... Good springs.. pushrods.. lifters... head bolts.. rod bolts.. honing the block.. the forged pistons.. decking the block and heads... Bearings, oil pump, new timing chain, Putting a intake on.. a oil pan.
Be real you fool. You ain't putting it together for less unless you are someone's sugar baby.
And besides.. I have $4000 into a fuckin air rifle. If you think $2500 is a lot of money.. you need to get a job and move out of your mom's basement lol
Yeah ls is still hands down best motor. It's only expensive when you have to pay someone else to do it which gets expensive no matter what route you go.
So all I need to do to my 07 6.2 Yukon Denali is get a selectable 4wd tcase and some dana 44 front and rear axle! I can then roll with the Jeep wrangler crowd. Also stock up on some sweet rubber ducks!
Iv got The LT-1 in my 2017 Gen 6 Camaro SS… I get 30 mpg going 80mph and the power is insane with the 8 speed auto trans. The LT-1 is a 6 Bolt main engine block…
Best V-8 engine chevy makes IMHO
The 8 speed transmission is straight booty cheeks. I have a 2022 6.2 Trail Boss with the 10 speed for my work truck. I average 16.8 mpg on 37s
Lighter than a hemi. Torque lower and smoother in the power band. Easier cooling. Lower cost. Seems like once the computer interface is solved, the Chevy is the obvious choice. What's the catch?
Nothing really. It’s a used drivetrain but less than 40k miles.
Gen V are hot garbage from the stock form(I own a 2016 l83 and 2018 l86) oem lifters collapse. I suggest running premium oil and really keeping up with the oil changes if stock.. . 6.6l(l8t) doesnt have those shitty lifters but its iron block... if you have a 5.3 or 6.2 you better go with a different camshaft and lifters if longevity is the goal.

Looking forward to the Hurricane crate offerings!! A Hurricane HO and an 8 speed would be AWESOME in my JK :-)
Me too!
Do we know if the Hurricane will actually fit in a JK engine compartment?
I think I've heard tat the Lt engine has something like 300Lb/ft of torque from 1000rpm just what you want for rock crawling (like a diesel engine) where you want slow speed and good torque tand then they have the 6.6L i think it should make like 370Lb/ft @ 1000rpm (this is almost the torque of an unmodified Ls engine at maybe 4000rpm) very impressive for me
That soon to be released 3.6 4 cyl. GM with a LS head 340 HP and over 400 ft lbs. Blueprint engines I believe
Seen it.
300+ hp and 500+ torque.with (mild) turbo (so probably running 12 pounds of boost.
I have a 2013 Brute with the newest MagnusonSupercharger 420hp 388t.
I know this is only a random sample of two owners, club members of ours, but both had LS swaps done by a noted “expert” and had so many issues they sold their JKs. OTOH another friend had a Hemi conversion (AEV) done by a dealer and had no issues whatsoever. I’m skeptical any GM into JL/JT is going to be practical.
I bet I can fill in the blanks and say they were Motec swaps.
@@Exodus4x4 Yep
I wanna see a Godzilla dropped in one.
The newly announced 615hp/640tq NA crate Godzilla. 🤤
@F Dunbar
I guess I missed that, I'm also looking forward to the little brother, 6.8L. I still think Ford should use the ci designations for these pushrod motors, it would set them apart and just sound cool! The 445 Godzilla and the 415 Windsor.
Be nice to hit the Lotto tonight...lol You would be building me a Bad Ass Jeep!
Love the mark dice music!😎
I did this swap in a 1995 Bronco, It rips!
I’m doing one right now. Run into any problems? Gm transfer case, atlas, or stock?
I would tend to agree that the LT will be the new standard Chevy swap. But the LS is still easy to find for cheap. The 8L80 though should be the standard auto trans used in chevy swap. forget anything else save for the T56 ofcourse.
10L90, the 8L is a garbage transmission that is actually part of a class action lawsuit.
Need more options for us manual trans guys.
I want simpler, a naturally aspirated motor, NO GDI, a timing CHAIN, not a belt, not loose piston rings, an Automatic Transmission with a dipstick.
There are so many engine kit options, Dakota Customs, AMW4X4 , MOTEC and RPM Extreme . Hard to say what is best.
Not if you’re the guy that installed all of those options. 😉
Not really, do your homework, Motec is much more advanced in the conversion v-8 and tranmissions world for the jeeps
@@jimbradd2783 I can speak from experience with Dakota Customs. The 6.4 and 8 speed runs great and is just like a factory installation. I have about 10k miles on my swap with zero issues or complaints.
Great Video! So LT swap for the Gladiator? Is it as compatible as with the JK platform?
Interested in a good swap choice for long desert racing in either my 96 XJ or 93 Nissan D21
I'm just not seeing a benefit to an LS swap any more. A few years ago they were cheap and you could find lots of low mile engines. Now a used LS with 100k is $2500+ here in New England, not much less than an LT. Add in the cost of freshening up the LS and it comes out to the same cost as a low mileage LT. I'm no GM fan but these engines have proven themselves, far more than any of the Hemis. While the LT won't increase fuel mileage for everyday driving much, it should be a lot better when we tow our small camper with our JK. The 14-15mpg we get every day running 38s is pretty impressive, but the 8-10mpg with the camper really hurts. Economy isn't my main reason for doing a swap- power to turn the tires and pull the camper better is- but a little increase in MPG would be a nice benefit.
Put a 2.7l tt from the f150 in it, light with tons of power
How much do one of these swaps cost ????
Very good fit looks great .....Direct injection , i don't think that is a wise choice , it will not be very long until some one will be taking the heads off to blast the intake runners with walnut shell to remove the carbon build up . My friends shop has done several D.I. engines . I seen one he was working on that the intake port was all most closed off .
Seems like EGR soot is an issue .. ?
Lt engines are very good. 8 speed auto I do not agree. I was part of a c7 corvette club here in Miami and the 8 speed owners had nothing but torque converter and gearbox issues while the engines were bulletproof.
Curious to know if the L8T engine would work with this setup. That would be an awesome swap with 400 inches and a lot better low end power
Yes it is an LT engine also and actually better than the l83 or l86 and lt1 because it is v8 all the time no cylinder deactivation problem waiting to happen
Deactivation gets disabled.
I noticed that the gas cap is farther back than the factory one on the jeep gladiator.
Do you have to upgrade the axles or can the dana 44's handle it?
This is great, but I already have a vehicle fleet that uses the 6L90 transmision paired with the 6.0 vortec LY6 (basically, an LS based small block engine for HD trucks and SUVs). I love that drivetrain for being reliable as hell and having all the LS based aftermarket support already well stablished.
So... does anybody knows a company that makes a good kit to be able to run that drivetrain in a JL or JT jeep? Im planning to add those 2 vehicles to my "fleet" and get them the LY6 with the 6L90 as soon as their drivetrain fails (either transmission or engine). Cuz I plan to keep every single one of those vehicles forever.
What about GM’s 4.3L six cylinders? They make good power and torque and seem to be a cheaper alternative that’s more powerful than Jeep’s power plant.
Curious if Dana 44’s would hold up with this engine or would u have to go to 60’s….?
Depends on the driver but usually you’re ok. Tire size is is usually the bad guy.
Question: what do you do with the original motor? How does that work?
Sell them if they’re good, junk them if they’re bad
Will you be doing the LT engine swaps on JL/JT? Currently having a L83/8l90 in my 06 LJ. Would the L86/8l90 in my wife’s gladiator
I hope so, it’s nice to have options.
Anybody on here here about the hurricane engine built by the Germans? Heard it will replace both hemi and LS. Great vid btw.
Like to put the 5.0 coyote in a jeep.
I just would like a reliable engine in my jk I’m having the rockers replaced as I’m typing this I had a Cherokee with 280.000 miles on the 4.0 and never gave a problem I wish I could afford to have that put in my jk
I wanna see a Durmax LZ0 swap.
I have a LT4 ZL1 and a 6.0 LQ4 chevelle, Still a LS platform. The LS is way cheaper when modded, cam, port injection etc.
Indeed it is. The point of this though is the LT producers more power, more efficiently, in stock form, and includes the 8 or 10 speed transmission.
I’m waiting to see the Hurricane I6 swapped in.
What do you think about the V6 Penastar Engine 305 plus horsepower 8 speed Automatic transmission around 380 fpt?? and very reliable and plenty around
IF YOU ARE AT YOUR NEW AND IT'S DONE, HOW BOUT A TOUR.
Coming soon
So you went from ls to hemi, and now to lt? Are you by chance biasing your opinions to what you are selling at the moment?
Ummm, no. We currently install Hemis and LT. This is an option for the customers that prefer the GM option. I thought I said that in the video🤔. Also, we quit installing LS because they became too hard to find reasonably priced donors whether they be salvage or crate.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I LOVE THE BTUTE AND I LOVE THE LT MOTOR!!! THE LT IS THE NEXT UPGRADE FOR HOT RODDING. SOMETHING TO CONSIDER. GREAT VIDEO AND EDUCATION. THANKS FOR SHARING!!!!
The 8 speeds are having chatter issues with the converter
🤔I wonder what options they have available for the Jeeps that come with a manual transmission from the factory...
Depends on the year model. 18+ we can put the Hemi in it.
Make sure you search GM 5.3 class action law suit before going the LT route. And if you have to have an LT spend the money and take out the DOD camshaft and lifters. You know its an EPIC fail when a company reverses course and starts offering their new motors without DOD.
do you offer integration kits? Ive been eye-balling MoTechs, and will be pulling the trigger this fall.
No real advantage to doing an LT motor other than the 8&10 Speed trans options, they’re more difficult to integrate, harder to tune, way less aftermarket support. The trans is the only Pro.
Not true at all. Integration is smooth using the RPM harness and we tune them ourselves. Aftermarket in terms of what, cams? The CVVT works so well I wouldn’t even look at cams for these, but that’s an opinion.
@@Exodus4x4I have never understood why people are scared of VVT and choose to delete it’s functionality or lock it out. I know you can’t get a choppy idle, but the perks is that you get a smooth, consistent power band. If I were to tune anything it would be the shifting of the eight speed transmission, and the engine could stay stock and still be a powerhouse.
Not sure on your thoughts, the gm engines and trans are the way to go in any jeep, you just have to get with the leaders in this field, beware of some that's doing these conversions
so what does it cost? cause am looking for a comanche or should i just buy a wrecked 2015+ sierra to get everything out of it parts wise
$30k is the turnkey price.

Lol I wrote u I had this done at Motech 4 years ago and u said it would have problems and not reliable 😂. I’m glad u seen the light cause Iv had no issue
Glad it worked out for you, but considering how many issues we had using their system I’d never install another one from them. RPM has been super reliable.
I’d say 50k Rough miles and 4 years is pretty reliable I even added a magnus 3.0 blower on it and no issues
6.2 baby.
I bet you save more weight with the Lt swap verses the iron block hemi swap…..
A little bit.
Is there a cost savings over the LS for the install?
Great video. What is the weight savings with the Chevy over the Mopar?
It’s a great question, but I’ve never found a definitive answer. I’m sure it’s not a small number.
Well the Mopar is a cast iron block. The weight difference between a aluminum and iron block LS is 100-110lbs
#OM606 that’s it! I won’t go back to ls or any other crap
What is that intro song from? I've heard it on another show for sure.
What about older things like XJ/MJ? Or older TJ?
how much is the swap? Where is best place to find Engine and Trans that is not someone elses junk?

Maybe I missed it but you didn't mention price of this motor swap vs the Hemi?
