The whole album felt like I was in a bar and there was just a band jamming in the backround. It was good music, they are all great musicians, but I also haven't revisited any song from that album since.

I don't get people saying the final version is simpler, John is just fucking around with chords in this one, playing some ska stuff and Flea just following along. The final song ended bring way more complicated in terms of interplay between bass and guitar, and way more structured... But somehow I guess I prefer hearing this one. There's a bit of Wet Sand and Make You Feel Better, like that happy chordy vibe, the final Californication has this almost robotic vibe to it and a melancholic weird sound
this demo really shows importance of producer during recording seasion. if not for the rick rubin, we would never had the californication version we love today.
