    Love seeing the Florida Trail. Gives you a good idea of what Florida must have looked like before it got so populated and urban. Thanks for sharing.

    Cool hike. I had a friend walk and camp on the trail. It was pretty rugged at some points. Nice video!

      I am down in the Everglades right now at Monument Lake but in June sometime will be back at the Northville-Placid Trail in the Adirondacks. Doing hikes in sections is a good way to still have a great experience. Best to you both!

    Every time we do hikes on the florida state park trails, we find snakes crossing in front or behind us. You two don't seem to run across any. Great video.

      We were very blessed. I would imagine that hiking in the cooler months reduced our chances. Thank you so much for watching!

    Haven't hiked any of the the western trails , Yet. I stay on the East side. It appears the same as over there, wet feet at some time. Even if you are high and dry the morning dew will still soak your legs and feet but what the heck it is Florida. The Florida Trail Association has section maps of the trail that are really helpful. They also have a Trail guide publication ( Lots of step by step information ) or a Data Book with additional trail information.
    One reason Like the East side , I live about 200 yards from it , it's basically out of my back door.

    • @averagecampers
      @averagecampers  Před 4 lety

      So true about the morning dew. We had to be very vigilant about keeping our feet dry at camp to reduce skin break down. We used Guthook app for the trail which has a gps feature. Very helpful when the trail markings faded. Down side of electronics....not as reliable as paper maps. Thank you so much for watching Chuck and safe travels!!

    Wow! Awesome I live only a few miles from the trail and never gave it a thought for backpacking. I use the AllTrails app and I will have to check out if the trail system is on their app.

    We didn't do much hiking in Florida. Wife is a bit scared of gators. We enjoyed walking around at Dade Battlefield Park but that is about as primitive as I could convince her to get in Florida.

      So many amazing trails in Florida. Hope to get back out there soon. We would really like to complete our Appalachian Trail hike. Sub’d you and looking forward to watching your travels.

    You gotta remember i Florida, things grow REALLY FAST and color fades fast too due to the extreme sun and rain conditions. She needs her hair pulled back. Ticks in that grass are terrible. But it's a great hike.

    Have you filtered and drank the tannic acid water?

    • @averagecampers
      @averagecampers  Před 3 lety

      No need to drink questionable water on the trail. There is more than enough good water sources if you plan your day.

    Rob get us a link to those strap pouches please.

      Check out Gossamer Gear or Z packs. Both are great pouches and water resistant.

      No but you must have the Free Florida trail pass then your all good. Thank you so much for watching!

    I’m in FL, and I’ve never hiked before but I’ve also wanted to....... the issue is the lack of well-defined trails kinda puts me off. Not to mention the gators lol.

    • @averagecampers
      @averagecampers  Před 3 lety

      We used Guthook app that has trail and gps. This is the best way to stay on trail when the trail markers are a little faded. You might want to stay out of lake or pond water. Thank you so much for watching!!

      @averagecampers  Před 3 lety

      Items you can leave behind include the fire kit, first aid kit, and saw. A few simple bandages will be enough and you will have very few opportunities to use your saw or fire starter kit. Just our opinion based on our experience.

    • @Rusted_Link
      @Rusted_Link Před 3 lety

      @@averagecampers I agree but the first aid is Band-Aids, ointment and a few OTC meds. The fire kit is a lighter, a ferro rod and 5 quick tenders. And for the saw I know you're right but I have to find out for myself.

    • @averagecampers

      Sounds good. We did similar and you can always send stuff home later as there are several post office opportunities in towns. We had so much fun planning our hike. Loved every moment!
