Only took 10 seconds to find out im not at JLPT N5 level lol
Don't give up, you can do it đȘ
four season hotel was quite hard
The difficult parts are the kataka ones. While I listen I think they are words that I'm missing but all of them end up being things like "afternoon tea" đ«
The rest was easy although a bit difficult for me because I haven't really practiced since I passed the N5 exam.
@@simongonzalez1617 Hey as a more advanced learner I can tell you it actually gets easier as people speak faster when it comes to katakana words!
a-fu-ta-nu--n ti- is hard to recognise, but faster it sounds like aftanu-n ti- and itâs way more obvious haha
@@aeolianaether that makes a lot of sense :D
I like how the 2 top comments are âI understood absolutely nothingâ and âTurns out I understand Japaneseâ.
What surprises me is that I actually understand everything easily. I mean, sure, I play lots of japanese TCG like union arena and OPTCG, and both are using japanese cards here in asia region, but I expected myself at some really low beginner level. The only reason why I can read and translate japanese cards is because they use furigana on top of all kanji after all.
I suspect that this isn't the actual test for N5. I can't be that good. And of course, I suck at speaking.
Understood the first one with kanji seems like I should just listen more and familiarize with vocab yay
â@@kueapel911N5 is the lowest level you can be, I think you're confusing it with N1.
This has been the greatest ego boost of my entire life.
I am eternally grateful.
ikr, I've been learning Japanese purely on duolingo so I had no idea what N5 to N1 even meant until I googled it, glad to -see- hear the progress I've made since starting I honestly didn't expect to be able to understand EVERYTHING so easily
I felt great too until I realized N5 is literally the lowest japanese level possible đ„Č
Fr tho she talked too slow tho I would actually understand it better if she spoke faster at a slow normal speed
Same
Oooh thats why itâs the low level
Love this format.
1. Without subtitles to test oneself
2. With subtitles to find and learn missing knowledge,
3. Without subtitles again, to test again. â
Even though I still need tons and tons of studying, I completely agree 100%. I love this format and the speed in which you say it. I do not have the ear yet to listen at a faster speed. Thank you very much. Please. Please. Please do more N5 videos like this.
it's genius because she gets 3x the video length out of 1x footage but it actually helps so I don't even mind
Years of watching anime finally paid off lol
same here lol, I feel so grateful
Same here~
Same here~
bruh same lol. Everything was crystal clear
yatta
Rare to have N4/N5 tutorial on CZcams, so itâs really difficult for the beginners to test themselves. By finishing this video, it will not only test their progress but also give confidence to the beginners. Well done!đ
N5, and N4 content is by far the most common type of content.
@@TragicGFuel I agree. Feels like everyone does N5/N4 content xD Foreigners and Japanese alike. There's so much material, to the point I feel like you can get to that level on your own. Then again, N5 sadly is absolutely nothing ;_;
@@inu506 it's simple math, the biggest audience is always the most inexperienced one.
Because lots of people give up just after N4
The Four Seasons Hotel and Afternoon Tea really got me there ahah my ear is not trained nor expecting loan words like that I guess. Excelent exercise to remind us that it's the little details like this that count! :)
I'm the same. Katakana words are always the toughest for me.
Same
And T-shirt.. i thought she said hissatsu.. i think i watch anime too much
I kinda got the four seasons but she lost me at afternoon tea, I wad like, sorry what?đ
@@ragerteenager968 Funny enough it was the exact opposite for me. Afternoon tea I recognized immediately but four seasons was totally lost on me
Yooooo! I just realized that I'm not translating as much in my head, I can just understand what is being said. I'm far from being able to speak Japanese and even farther from organizing the sentence structure correctly, but I understand the words that she is saying. Out of order, yes, but I can infer what is being said. For those who are having a hard time writing and listening to Japanese "speak out of order" compared to English, it starts to make sense after a while. It's taken me 2 years of non serious studying to finally get past understanding the sentence order. I don't worry about translating the sentence in my head; I just listen for what I understand now.
Same here. I was like "Why can't I translate it?" even though I understood most of it. Then I realized it's because the translation is reversed! Translating Japanese to English requires you to listen to the whole sentence before you can start translating it since the translation is often right to left, otherwise your translation will be "out of order" just as you said.
Trust me, if you want to be able to understand Japanese, translating is unnecessary unless you want to be a translator or an Interpreter. Whatever you are doing, keep doing it because that's what I call natural acquisition. 2 years is a long time and you are on the right path. Just a friendly advice, if you are not studying seriously, try to study N4 or N3 grammar from time to time. It helps in sentence construction and future understanding. Also, don't forget immersion.

Same I am Korean and English speaker
Sometimes I know all the words in a phrase but I don't know what it means. For example 'chisai mae ni'. I never would have gotten that if I didn't look it up.
ăăă°ăŁăŠăăŒ ^_^
understood 60% without subtitles
The sigh of relief when I understood everything the first time was MONUMENTAL
I'm not ready yet. I need to study more!
Input is the most important part! Also practicing making more and more complex sentences!
@@earthrise9064 can you explain? By input do you mean lots and lots of listening, just kinda immersing as much as possible?
@@burjalmadre it must be comprehensible to some degree though. learn words and grammar until things are comprehensible and then the listening input will become useful. learn words and review them often so you dont forget them while you learn new words
@@humanbean3 so you mean just consistent spaced repitition? Constantly adding new vocab in listening, speaking, reading, writing?
@@burjalmadre yes exactly. except you don't need speaking practice until much later unless you are just trying to learn real fast for a tourist trip. You also dont really need to focus on writing, but it does help to learn to write maybe 50-100 kanji just to really notice the components. spaced repetition with vocab for sure. looking up grammar along the way
I really like the English subtitles. Sometimes when I'm using a program to learn Japanese, the English translations are "what they mean to say" vs what they literally just said in Japanese. I get they want the English to be more like what a native English speaker would say, but It can be confusing and it slows down the learning process for me. So I appreciate your subtitles actually say what you're saying in Japanese. I hope that made sense.
Agreed. It can be so confusing when the translation assumes things about context and adds that to the english translation to make the english look ordinary. I think that's what you mean.
Yeah I hate that too
Can't wait for the N4 version! I learned practical Japanese first. So, these are a great way to gauge my JLPT level.
i'm editing N4 now!đ
Is it out now? :) â@@mochirealjapanese3430
It's amazing how much slowing down the speaking speed eases understanding. Of course, the vocabulary was also basic with lots of loan words, but i could understand everything the first time.
Increasing the vocabulary level at slow speed would be very helpful.
When you understood everything without ever learning japanese (But I guess 1000s of hours of anime count as learning)
pretty impressive
This format was very helpful, would love to see more like this!
Thank you. This really boosted my confidence
This is a really good format for listening practice. Very helpful (as usual). Thank you!
I really like this new format, thank you !
Excellent video, thank you!
It's very helpful so please keep making them for us. Your hard work is much appreciated!
Thank you for the video, i understood the general context of it by knowing certain things and adding in the rest - or what i think was being said.
Having it slowed down was appreciated.
This is a wonderful format and a great way to measure current skills and weaknesses. Thank you so much for this!
I'm really proud of myself for understanding the majority of what you said!
This is like that feeling of not knowing what it means but somehow understanding it

Thank you so much for uploading this content! I've been learning for 9 months now and I was able to understand about 85% of that! Thank you so much for a much needed confidence boost!
Thank you for a great video. I've been studying Japanese for 8 or 9 months and I'm starting to be able to understand some words out of a conversation (which inspires me to work harder). The format of your video was an excellent resource, The 3rd time without subtitles was much easier. I hope you make more videos like this. I really want to be able to pass the JLPT N5 as one of my goals one of these day, so wish my luck. Have a great day and thanks again.
This was so helpful, please keep making these! They're greatly appreciated

Glad you like it!
God, when I thought you couldn't do better, you are doing an even more incredible video ;-)! Thank you so much, as a remote Japanese learner, these videos are totemo amazing! (Planning to take JLPT N5 in December)
Thank you very much! My method of learning is mostly auditory, however I couldn't do that at all for N5, because there wasn't a single video on it on CZcams. Probably because the spec feels so small. However I'm forever greatful that you made this video, finally I can learn without having to force myself to use the old cover and write method for every word.
make more of this please!! really helpful!
Loved it ! Understood like 90% of it.
You are a godsend, Thank you for your content
You're very welcome!
Thankyou so much Mochi sensei for this !!!!!
that was really helpful, thank you always sensei
your gestures helped me understand better.
This is why teachers use it. Increases the comprehensible input.
I got more of this than I expected. đ It might be a nice extra challenge to have all three sections repeated together at native, conversational speed at the end!
Thatâs a good idea, if you wanted to challenge yourself you could also change the video speed as well and may be similar
Loved it!!! Thanks for the video. The subtitles really help a lot. đđđ

I'm so glad I understood everything without subtitles. She speaking slowly really helpes, but still I'm happy

The format is awesome đ Arigatou gozaimasu đ
It's only me or is it a little bit slow?? Maybe I'm used to anime speed

N5 explicitly says that the understanding can be at a slower spoken speed

Really great format thanks! I understood most of it but the subtitles helped me figure out my mistakes or learn new words I haven't acquired
Great video, thank you sensei!
This video made me so happy! I had Japanese class for 2 semesters in college almost 9 years ago. I wasnât sure if I would still understand this but I did! I had trouble hearing Dubai though. Aside from that, I was able to understand everything else on the first listen! †Thinking of picking up Japanese again so this is very useful. Just subscribed! đ
Thank you for speaking so clearly :)
I really like that you speak and present your video in such a clear way! Itâs really good for people who are learning.
With fast natural speech, it can be really hard to grasp what is being said. Of course itâs the goal to understand it⊠but it can make me feel like my Japanese is worse than it is. If itâs spoken clearly like this itâs perfect to see exactly if I can understand or not đ
Incroyable merci ça permet carrément de s'entrainer !!!

I really love this, instant subscribe. I hope you have more of these. I am not N5 level but from the minimal studying I have done combined with my watching anime I could understand words and bits and pieces which is really motivating! Thank you!
