  • The Rhodes family began with three chickens, a house and land. This is their story (full of ups and downs) of how they went from three chickens into their front yard to a permaculture meca of cows, pigs, numerous flocks of chickens and market sized gardens DESPITE all the animal deaths, hospitalizations and Beauty’s illnesses.

I'm with you! I've got the land! I just need extra hands on my place! I have 6 acres two barns two horses 4 cats and two dogs! My kids are grown and gone and couldn't wait to get out of the country! So sad! Their father sadly was a city slicker and couldn't get into country living, so 25 years ago he stayed in the city and I moved out here to live my dream! I love it! What an inspirational movie! 2019 focus and organization, love it!

Justin, I nearly cried watching you and your son working together. What wonderful memories you two are creating. Beautiful Beautiful… Thinking about the days, when he is in his 30's or 40's having these videos to go back and see you and him, side by side, with his loving and caring father. He will think about all the hard work, but will remember more, I wish we could go back and do it all over again.. Thank you for sharing and capturing such wonderful moments of you two. I also wish your wife well, ( my 29 yr old suffers from many of the same symptoms),and the rest of your family. Looking forward to your future videos.

A few years ago while in the Navy I got sick. For years my doctors told me I had all sorts of things wrong with me. My labs were crazy and I was panicking. They never could tell me what was wrong. Finally a doctor told me just to live like I wasn't sick. I did and I can say that I feel great! The mind is extremely powerful and when I thought I was sick my labs were a mess, but when I convinced myself I wasn't sick my labs all went back to normal. I am not sure what is happening to Rebecca, but I truly believe that my sickness was made worse by me constantly thinking about it.

Toni Franklin, even if you live in town currently, you can start learning with planting to help get techniques down and learn about the plants you want and get a knack for them first (then that way it wont be so overwhelming, when you try to start everything from scratch... Not sure if you are new to gardening and everything or not... Hope this is a helpful hint). This is what im doing till we can get a bigger piece of land and expand.

I have a strong hunch your wife might have Lyme disease. I was initially tested for it but it came back negative (it's easy these days to have false negatives in testing). I've had Hashimoto's since 2013, and for these 6 years I was only properly diagnosed this year.
I had big gut issues (despite having the best diet ever)--this is because no matter what you do for diet, Lyme disease is pathogenic; it's a series of infections. One of the bacterium actually *eats* the epithelial lining of the intestines and over time destroys your ability to digest things.
I had HUGE neurological, emotional, and psychological issues as well--this is because bacteria in Lyme actually eat brain and CNS tissue (my personality changed, I had memory issues, and trouble thinking or "brain fog"). Anxiety skyrocketed. My heart rate was affected (certain bacterium inflame pericardial tissue and can cause arrhythmia/tachycardia).
I know your wife may feel she's a the mercy of her hormones and immune system, but 99% of the time with autoimmune disease there's underlying infection(s). She may also be told to work on her mental and emotional faculties, but please do explore testing.
A great way to test is through applied meridian kinesiology for response to antigen exposure. My doctor uses reflexology and the Traditional Chinese Medicine meridian system to check organs and organ networks that are affected, lets me sniff into a tube of various species, and takes note of my visceral bodily response. Lyme pathogens can enter any organ tissue or network and wreak havoc at the immune system and endocrine levels. So when we fight a chronic, systemic infection(s), we must set ourselves on a long-term course for total remission. This means to kill every last infection.
Anyways, I feel immensely compelled to share this with you. I hope you do read this comment and take this to heart. Don't give up. Answers (and even better: real, tenable solutions that yield results) come and may take years. I know how hard it is and how it can shake every aspect of life to its core (your body, mind, emotions, spirituality, etc.). I truly wish you the best and thank you for sharing what you share to do what you do that's bigger than you.

A friend of mine was actually diagnosed and "lived with" Lupus for 5 years. She FINALLY got a Dr. to listen to her and test her for Lyme Disease again and it came back positive. She's being treated for that currently and already feeling so much better than she did when she was being treated for the supposed Lupus. Which to me it's crazy because Lupus is also very hard to diagnose and usually the LAST thing a Dr. will diagnose you with because of that.

Mold is definitely dangerous, and co-morbid with Lyme's. Some of the research I have seen suggests that if you have chronic Lyme's that doesn't respond to treatment you have ongoing mold toxicity. The nasty little spirochete eats the mold toxins.

I love that ya'll are so courageous and open about the bad as well as the good... Homesteading is understandably tough and to show a bunch of strangers your weaknesses as well as your strengths is refreshingly honest. I hope that 2019 is all that we ALL need it to be..

I dont usually watch such long videos but I was hooked. Funny thing, I was getting flashbacks from previous videos saying "hey, I remember that"
I'm really impressed with your work ethics, family ethics, and approach to the life cycle of your animals in your care. On my farm I give our animals the best lives possible, with the hope they'll only ever have one bad day.
Looking forward to seeing your 2019 antics.

Our hope is to feed our family of 6 with 70% from homestead 30% from store. I liked your video, and a few of my family saw what I was watching and sat down next to me to enjoy it. Good job and good luck. I'll be looking for more or you videos in the future. Kevin

My family and I just came off the road from a 6 yr journey of Faith and met a lot of beautiful people like yourselves and experienced various communities and gleaned several ideas to put to use ourselves. We now have been blessed with an old farm that we rent and are ready to get to it. I currently drive truck as a means to invest in what we need to set ourselves up for full time homesteading...hopefully soon...we miss each other ..but the sacrifice now will pay off...thanks for inspiration and motivation...how is the Aussie doin? My experience is kids can not run around them...we now raise German shepherds..perfect fit..

We are also homesteading but starting a lot further behind. We have no barns, no fences, and twelve acres of brush so thick you can’t walk through it. Our house is separated from our pasture by a 28’ wide creek bed that is twelve feet deep...and no bridge. So we have infrastructure to work on first. We do have about 75 chickens.
