I think that catwalk being a full music video was a better challenge. The performance style of the other rumix videos was getting old.
I think they tested the waters with lucky, and lucky turned out so great, so they went back to music videos challenges but adding the writing a verse and designing their outfits was just *chef kiss*
To me it's very tiring because we already have the performances of the lipsyncs for the crown
So we are going to have performances anyway and they add ANOTHER performance? Exhausting. I think it's so muc better to have a music video this way and the performances of the finale

For me Daya should have won. She was just as fierce as Camden but her outfit and look was better too! Oh well I’m with BOB the drag queen and I want Daya to win can you imagine the storyline of it all ? Never has a first eliminated queen got this far let alone to the grand finale.
I agree that Daya should have won, but I think they (producers) wanted to give it to Lady (she did amazing though) because either they don't want to crown Daya or they want another winner to have 1 win again
she wont win. producers know she can play a villain role, they’ll probably mark her for an AS
@@grantpacatang9293 good thought ! But objectively we both know track record don’t matter so if they are gonna crown willow or Camden giving them an extra win at this point wouldn’t even matter. Challenge wise Daya was the best. Remember also that the challenge was also to design a great outfit which Daya to me did the best on.

the “L to the A to the D to the Y” in Camden’s verse on Catwalk was so smooth, she deserved her challenge win. Team Willow Pill tho 💛
Poor Lady. She was My Fair Lady who could have pulled it out but she committed a finale faux pas which was fatal.
While the season 12 Vegas Live Medley didn't give the queens as much freedom to write about anything they want, musically, I really love it! Each girl has their moment to shine and there is ebb-and-flow with an emotional arc/ depth as well as fierceness!
AS5 was so unmemorable that I had completely forgotten the Clapback performance even existed. That's how meh that season was. Personally, I love Catwalk, it's probably my favorite Ru song now. It's got such a chill vibe, and I love how they went for a George Michael inspired music video. But yeah, production isn't even trying to be subtle about the storylines they want to set up anymore, it was clear from the beginning of the episode they were setting the stage for an Angeria-Willow bottom 2. And since there was no way they were gonna send home either of them... well.. yeah, top 5. But I mean are we even surprised at this point, this whole damn season was like a fever dream so for some reason a top 5 seems very fitting lol.
Bobs version of that song is the only reason I remember it. I don't even remember the girls doing anything worth listening to
AS5 was literally handmade for Shea because she felt entitled to a crown and the whole storyline that she deserved to win her OG season, and that she was “robbed” and the only reason she didn’t was because of the rose petals….really rubbed me the wrong way that the cast of AS5 was all filler in the producer’s eyes so she could be awarded a crown. 🙄🤭 Makes sense why Mayhem and Ongina gave up ☹️
@@skatingsarah1996 I think that's something that's really easy to say retrospectively but really hard to say at the time. Bianca, Bob, Jinx, Alaska... I think when you actually watch the seasons you see that there actually was done fierce competition but because we know who won, we see the editing, and we just say it was designed for this person
AS5 was the best JUJU we've ever seen, she absolutely could've won. Miss cracker was in the finale too

Irrelevant but I wonder if you can do a video about how favoritism of a queen can benefit the season (queens like Symone and Dela) and how favoritism can break a season (s11 in general). I think it's a pretty interesting idea to look over 🤔

True I mean I would have stopped watching if Symone left. The other top three were dragged to the top, well Rose worked hard but Denali, Tamisha, Elliott, LalaRi and Utica could have shone in the areas aswell

YESSS! I'm so glad you talked about U Wear It Well, it doesn't get enough recognition, Priyanka, Rita, and Scarlett all KILLED it. It's literally one of, if not the best finale songs on Drag Race ever.

to me Priyanka's verse is one if not the most smoothest verses on a song, you can tell that she knew rythm and how to deliver a good verse.

I think something that elevates the performance of U Wear It Well is that all three girls match. Like, it looks like a collaborative performance instead of three random people singing their verse. Glad it’s getting some love, has to be one of my favourites as well.
At this rate, the season 17 verses are just gonna be "Hey mama Ru" then the chorus.
Also ik this isn't a challenge but please make a video a promo looks.
I think Catwalk is gonna age really well, simply because all of the verses are so good. It's one of the few songs where you don't have to cringe your way through one of the verses.
The big problem with the music they do on drag race for me is that they almost NEVER do any vocal layering and they queens themselves never do any background or adlib like you would do in any other song. They always sound so one take and go and I think they would benefit from more of that, and like you said the MIXING 💀💀💀 always so bad

The looks thing was the weirdest part. I get they designed them, but they didn’t closely work on them. So to critique someone for something the ultimately couldn’t oversee was really odd
Notice how the best ones of the franchise actually gave the queens TIME to do the verse!! These days they get like 9 seconds so no wonder it’s almost always rough. I don’t wanna hear Ru repeat the chorus 50 times while the four/five queens get 40 seconds in total of the 3 minute song🥴
in my eyes katya simply was the best queen I've ever witnessed with my two unworthy eyes and ms zamolodchikova didn't deserve the rug being pulled tf under her 😔
A Little Bit of Love from UK Season 2 could’ve been amazing but the mixing was terrible! It was so hard to understand the queen’s verses due to the overpowering music. Anyone else agree with me ?
The editors messed up the timing of the music on the episode so the lip movements didn’t match the sound

I’m surprised you didn’t bring up Queens Everywhere, that’s one of my all-time favorites! Especially just as a stand-alone track, without some of the rougher performances, all 5 verses are really strong

I especially loved it as a way to say "Hey! We are just as American as you!" Plus Kylie Sonique Love killed it harder than anyone in a challenge like this besides maybe a tie for alaska in read u wrote u and adore from the rusical.

I actually bought Catwalk today lol I’m obsessed. I think the best verses were Daya, Camden, and Willow. BUT! Bosco’s singing intro transitioning into Angeria’s rap sounds so good, it’s very kpop lol. And I love how Bosco’s singing mirrors when Willow starts to sing at the end of her verse! It all comes full circle!
Daya could’ve won this episode for sure (and I’d be happy bc I’m team Daya), but I’m also team Lady Camden and I think she was STELLAR tonight as well…

I think a semi-final / finale song you might have overlooked is Queens Everywhere! Other than Roxxxy's messy yet iconic verse from RUWU, A'keria's opening "Where is the body?" is probably the verse that gets referenced the most, and the whole mix was so entertaining to watch! It had messy moments for sure, but everyone was kind of iconic in their own way, and while S11 itself wasn't the best, it at least ended quite well with that song! (Especially after getting Super Queen from AS4 literally right before this... lol)
FINALLY "U wear it well" getting the recognition it deserves, it's also my favorite final rumix, it's so amazing
As much as i love read you wrote you. "If you want to join the revolution, innovative thats my solution. Wear a crown f with gender" etc lives rent free in my head as it is as you said so powerful and helps me when im feeling bad. A little bit of love (uk edtion) is brilliant too. in my opinion another really good finale song was canada season 2 when they did queen of the north, might have been because it wasn’t a roople song but oh well

"Catwalk" ranks top for me. It's definitely Ru's best since "Sissy That Walk." I can see where you're coming from though. On the plus side, it makes the perfect music for the runways.
Kitty Girl would be my fave and I would listen to it off the show unironically, also Hey Sis, It's Christmas. Ella's verse is just perfection.

I like that added detail of putting faint tinge of the songs that were being talked about, it especially helped for songs like super queen and clap back where I couldn’t remember how the songs went

I like how no one mentioned 'Queens Everywhere' from season 11. Vanjie, Yvie, and Brooke had pretty good verses (for the 5 seconds they got to sing) and Silky and A'keria didn't do bad on it either

Catwalk gives off very strong stock footage vibes and i'm disappointed none of the girls doubled the tempo, there was potential but they all went the predictable raute, which im not mad at since they aren't musicians. Just pissed at the production for picking such a slow song aaaAAA

When I was watching the episode, I was gagged by Catwalk. Although there wasn't really a standout, I thought everyone did really well, even Angeria and Willow with their little mess-ups, and the video itself was great. It's probably one of my favorite rumixes ever. Also, so happy to see U Wear It Well getting the recognition it deserves. Great video as always :)

In catwalk, I kept going distracted by the continuous cheesy cutbacks to RuPaul, out of drag, on the cameras. I think it would have been improved a good amount had they cut that or only had it happen like once.
Although I didn’t really like most of the verses (usually the case on drag race I get that they arnt all recording artist) but Yeahh I go by what sounds professional. Catwalk is a great song one of my fav Ru songs tbh especially as of recent. But I wasn’t feeling 80 or 90% of the verses. I dunno🤧

I love U Wear it Well, have always felt it's underrated. Side note, what are your thoughts on Losing is the new Winning from S12? I really like it and I think the queen verses are good, same with the mixing, but it gives me more of a rusical vibe than a final song vibe because of the two other songs included in the performance.
I absolutely loved lucky and this is our country, both felt so good and felt like we were back in the golden age of as2, season 9 and 10

THE LOVE FOR YOU WEAR IT WELL IS SO EXCITING!! I have a gnarly habit of whenever someone says "Question?" I answer "WHO WAS THE FIRST EVER QUEEN GO WALK INTO DRAG RACE NORTH OF THE SCENE?" it's so good. It's always in my wrapped!!! I like your point about theming. I had never noticed that until you pointed it out.
Great breakdown:)) I think Catwalk is pretty good, especially the second half of it with Daya, Lady C and Willow. They hit that sweet flow perfectly that the song needs.
One of the songs EVERYONE forgets is To The Moon from UK S1, and I think I'm the only person who loves it because, like said in the video, the chorus changes to a new style after every verse, and all three of the Top Three knock it out the park.
For some reason this episode seemed very anti Bosco. Imo her outfit looked like the worst possible version of her drawing whereas Camden's and Daya's were the opposite and I think that Bosco had a really good verse but the editing ruined it. Im happy they didn't put her in the bottom because everything I disliked about her showing this episode was not really her fault.
Idk... the outfit Bosco drew was pretty ugly before it was given, Bosco technically has done well but I keep forgetting but there's just something super middle group about Bosco.

I get a little taken out of U wear it well with the end of Scarletts verse. It stops being impactful after the cute breakdown.

The mixing engineers are probably listening to their mixes on insane studio monitors, and not a crappy TV, which honestly they should do because that's how most people will hear it.
nah its better to use monitors to mix as clear as possible so the rest is just the fault of the EQ on everyones tvs.

For anyone who watched Queen of the Universe, their finale song "Every Day Is A Holiday When You're A Drag Queen." It's literally "Lucky" with jingle bells. Hearing a version where the verses were sung was really cool, and we love a key change.
(Side note the name of the QotU song is the season 14 of song titles. Too long)
