- Hello friends & new friends!! I finally get to post that I adopted a cat this past week!! His name is Shamu and he is an (almost) 2 year old long haired domestic cat. His birthday is April 8th and I cannot wait to spoil him!! He is officially mine and he is actually an Emotional Support Animal! I am already so obsessed with him and so glad I decided to adopt him! He has already provided so much anxiety relief for my friends and I and he is such a fun companion to have. I will be posting a week in my life next week as I approach finals and I can't wait to see you next Sunday!! If you have any cat advice, please feel free to respectfully comment for me.⭐
UPDATE: Shamu has been sleeping well through the night and just met Kyle as well! We are all getting along great.

Definitely meant to be. Sometimes cats and other animals seem mean; but sometimes they just need the right person to love. Especially if they arent a baby. Maybe their heart had been broken before and the right family turns that all around .

Why did I cry during this entire video? Shamu is so cute and it was amazing to see how you two bonded immediately. Sometimes it’s just meant to be. I’ve been considering adopting a kitten lately so I’ve been watching every single adoption vlog I could find so I could be prepared for it, since I’ve never really had a cat, only dogs.

There is a cat toy that is kinda like a fishing pole with various cat toys on the end. Most cats love that. They love for you to move the toy around chase it jump etc etc. That really helps if you get that going for 20min or so before bedtime. Makes them tired.
I will respectfully give you some tips. (I grew up with cats and have a 2 year old short hair and a 8 week short hair) 1. Hiding places are needed. 2. Get a cat tower that has cubbys on them. 3. Put a bed in a small area or under a desk or chair. 4. Get a window seat. 5. Let him come to you, cats are very independent and need time to accept you into their pack.

I always felt that whenever you go to adopt a cat or a dog, it's always them who adopts you first. Also, I have those same clear cat ear bowls and my cats didn't like them very much. So, we ended up just using these more shallow bowls and they prefer those more.

He wants your turkey lol. Some cats love turkey, chicken, fish and other meats they’re allowed to have that won’t upset their tummies. I highly suggest turkey, chicken and fish treats for him 🙂.

Long haired cats get hairballs they cough up. I find feeding wet canned food helps with a lot of this.

Absolutely loved the video! My biggest suggestion for you and Shamu (I'm kinda late to comment tho) is harness training. You mentioned that you might be traveling with him a lot so training him to walk in a harness + leash could be very handy. Also it's super fun to take a kitty for a walk. Have a good day! 💚

Da Bird with its many attachment options are a hit with my cats. They also love their cat tree's ( we have 3 cats and 3 cat trees in the house). All cats need wet food whether raw or canned for adequate hydration as they don't drink enough to stay adequately hydrated. My cats also love to be groomed so I brush them a few times a week. I met my cat Lyche at the shelter, and she chose me. i am glad to see that Shamu chose you . Ping Pong ball for toy and Leather shoe lace, without the plastic ends and longest u can find, check grocery stores as well as shoe stores. Furminator brush is very good at getting deep knots out of the cats hair. most cats have an undercoat and an overcoat, the undercoat is harder to get out when needed. trimming front claws will need to be done occasionally, check for youtube videos about doing it right. Good Luck :)

make sure that his whiskers dont touch the bowl when hes eating that can cause some cats stress and they wont eat properly get some low stainless steal one or soething so his whiskers dont touch the bowl. and maybe try feeding him some combination of wet food

The cat choses the owner Harry. He is so settled already, it took my cats a few weeks to get that cosy, they were only 8 weeks (free to a good home) and probably missed their mum. But this cat is so in love with you, the way he showed his belly and slept in your scent. My cats also try to eat all my food lol.

I wish I knew more about pet health insurance and whether or not to get it. He’s only gone to the vet once and it can be expensive so I never know if it would help offset costs or not!

What a precious snd friendly and beautiful cat! I adopted a cat last year, November 2020. I love your philosophy of getting an adult and realizing he would be a twenty year part of your life. I’m sure you have learned a lot about cats since you got him. My fav thing with my girl is watching Jackson galaxy videos on you tube. He has lots of good ideas on how to deal with cats and their unique issues. My girl is five years old. She didn’t take to me instantly like your guy did but the shelter let me do a one month trial adoption but by the next morning I knew she was my forever kitty. She was exactly what I wanted and more. Our family bred Siamese cats. But I feel like I’ve learned so much more about cats since I’ve gotten her. My cats fav toys are ones I make for her like wads of aluminum foil rolled into balls and toilet paper roll toys. And handfuls of feathers tied up with yarn on a fishing pole style rod. I got a jacket style harness for my girl and I’ve found that playing hard with my kitty before meals snd before bed time that ends with a snack. Pro tip, don’t free feed him but feed him at specific times snd specific amounts. That will help him with behavioral as well as health issues. Make cats often have kidney issues so avoid dry food with him. My girl lives dry food so I only give her a small amount of kibble as a treat. Like 5 kibbles at a time. Get a low carb and high protein wet food. If you are wondering why, watch Jackson galaxy’s series on the best food for cats. You got such a great kitty. I’m so happy for you.

I’m moving to a new place in January and I’m gonna adopt from a shelter too. All the animals are in foster homes until there adopting day then there at the shelter. Love the Texas tags.
Adopting is the best!
Adult cats are great for anyone who has a busy schedule or a smaller space. Even at a year old they're a lot more settled than kittens, but still have lots of energy and are pretty adaptable.
I have a couple of those same carriers. I like to extend the strap as long as possible and put it around the headrest so the carrier won't flip over if I have to break hard. My cat will also flip it off the seat just from wiggling because she hates being in it.

Idk if you ever got the throwing up/pushing food out of the bowl revolved but usually it’s solved by getting a shallow elevated bowl! Elevated helps with the throwing up & shallow helps with whisker tension which could be why he’s pushing the food out
