- Here's a video of a killer performance Scott Henderson(guitar), Jeff Berlin(bass) and Dennis Chambers(drums) did of John Coltrane's famous tune "Giant Steps" in Gapyeong, South Korea on October the 18th in 2009. The solos presented here are some of the most melodic I've heard played on stringed instruments on these notoriously difficult changes. I was fortunate enough to see this trio live in Oslo, Norway in 2013 and even got to talk a bit with Scott and Jeff after the gig. They were both very approachable and pleasant. All three musicians are fusion legends and if you haven't heard their music you'll know why after hearing/seeing this video. This trio recorded an amazing album entitled "HBC" in 2012 which you can buy on Amazon or listen to via various streaming services like Spotify.
This is musicianship at highest level.
I agree. Thanks for commenting.
Scott..a living legend. The one and only
Scott is possibly the best guitar improviser on the planet. Who else can play Giant Steps like that?
Agreed! I have several recordings of different jazz guitar legends playing “Giant Steps.” Scott’s solo from the Vital Tech Tones album is THE GREATEST, hands down, no question.
I’ve heard guys blow with super chops on it, but not with the ideas and feeling and rhythmic sense that Scott has.
Absolutely! His phrasing is just fresh and unique. Amazing…
@@michaelhamm2271 The only jazz guitarists I can listen to being leaders are Scott, Sonny Sharrock and Frank Zappa. Jazz guitar is usually awful.
@@samaldiniYou’re not listening a good jazz guitar music
Uno de los mejores guitarristas de Jazz Rock.
As usual, always the same thing: Scott is total GENIUS.
Very, very underrated...
I've met Scott Henderson once at M.I.. A real great guy.
Gerry Willis wasn't too far behind, he's really good dude, we hit it off well for the short time I had you speak with him and pick his brain. Dann Glenn did the most in bring my playing together.
I still love Jeff though. I've listened to his music over and over again for years. I still do. Jeff Berlin is definitely one of my favorite bass player's.
Thanks for your comments. I agree, Jeff is an all time great on the electric bass. Greetings from Norway.
Saw that HBC gig in Oslo as well...so awesome!!! Thanks for this fantastic upload
Brevísimo Scott y el resto por supuesto
Imagine me sitting in with these guys...
Very nice!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for commenting. Greetings from Norway.
At first I didn't recognize Scott because his hair looks red, but after listening to a few measures of him play it's no doubtedly Scott Henderson his guitar playing style is signature.
