Kirk Covington is the most criminally unsung drummer of the 90s. Literally had a jazz fusion style all of his own, sounds like he has 3 arms.
John Bonham would probably think Kirk was the best drummer he ever heard if John was alive today.
100% true. And don’t forget he’s an amazing pianist and singer too!
@@WrestlingErnestHemingway to me he sounds like John Bonham with jazz chops.
Is he unsung? Everything on youtube is "underrated" nowadays. Isn't Tribal Tech which he is a part of one of the most renowned fusion acts?
@@asor8037 I didn’t write ‘underrated’ just to do some CZcams thing. Ask yourself what his exposure was like in drumming magazines during the 90s - almost non-existent. KC is so far from being a well documented and renowned drummer in the general drumming consciousness it’s tragic given how good he is. Happy for you to disagree though.
What a band. Most underrated fusion band in the history of music.
Possibly....underrated....but damn well respected and appreciated !
Not underrated by me. Best live band I ever saw.
The Led Zeppelin of jazz rock fusion bands. The Ultimate fusion band of all time!
That's the challenge of this type of music. As amazing as it is, It's not so easy to listen to. Kind of like listening to a lecture by a scientist. But among musicians, especially those into fusion, this is like "calculus". It gets better and better once you're starting to understand a bit of what's going on. You do get that they are quite a bit of mad scientists.
They are not "underrated", but just not popular in the mainstream. But musicians generally are aware of these guys.
Quit this "underrated" bs. They are one of the most renowned fusion acts, come on
I watch this at least twice a month now. Epic performance.
It certainly has everything to make the Blues disappear
Kirk is a force of nature.
Henderson is the ultimate fusion guitarist. The only one who is TOTALLY fluent in jazz, rock and blues. Not another jazz dude with an overdrive pedal. He truely LOVES all these generes.
guthrie govan
Frank Gambale
Larry Coryell meets that description. So does Di Meola. People forget that he didn’t used to be all Latin all the time. In early RTF he did a lot of different shit 😎
Sorry guys but no one like Scott, of course respecting all the other monsters for sure, but this guy is just...fearless!
@@mongooseavilacosta9359 All the players mentioned are completely unique and absolutely brilliant musicians. Yes Scott is awesome and fearless as are all the above.
No need to try to convince everyone who the "greatest" is, because we all know it was Holdsworth, but we love the others too!
I hope that clears things up for anyone who was confused about it. You're welcome 🤗
Kirk Covington is criminally underrated
Sings pretty good too!
@@Mwgsyboy Thanks for the comment, just rewatched this. Good lord this whole performance is so crazy :O
True!
Scott Henderson's phrasing is amazing!
Definitely holdsworth style.
This bands sound was on the edge of genius and insanity. No one after them managed to get to this level. Good for those who saw them live
Each guy is a phenomena. Tribal tech was such a mad collaboration
Agreed - truly one of the best "fusion" groups ever!
Omg that drummer.
Yeah, Kirk Covington. Ridiculously underrated by those who wouldn't know a great Percussionist from an apple.
Run, do not walk, if you get the opportunity to see Kirk Covington (drummer) live.
My brother found this and showed it to me a few years ago. I still use it as a litmus test to this day. Just Kirk Covington alone is all the entertainment I need. DM me to lol about this ❤.
Fuckin killer. Scott going off into beck-Holdsworth heaven. As good as anyone could ever be.
Gary Willis and the boys are such. monster players.
Gary Willis is truly a beast. I wonder if he's the world's fastest bass player for long runs. And also so dynamic and expressive. Wow.
Absolutley the best single line improv player I ever heard on bass.
god bless you uploader!!
the devil made him do it.
Saw them live in a club in my hometown some years ago....great night that was.....
These masters are not humans..... I can't belive what i hear. Wow it's really amazing!!!!
Sadly I can only like this once.
The most underrated fusion band ever. Imo. ❤
Love the transition between the smooth jazz intro song of the show and the beginning of The Big Wave.... Epic
lolol
Amazing! One of the best fusion bands ever...
This band set new horizons for jazz fusion, this stuff still sounds fresh today , other artists of the genre didn't get so lucky and their music sounds a bit dated today, anyway, mind blowing performance!
I thank Eddie Van Halen (RIP) for turning me onto Tribal Tech. Eddie's quote on this album was that Henderson was the best guitarist he ever heard in his life.
All virtuosos .... I wish I could pay guitar as well as Gary Willis plays his bass. Scott rules!
Hands down my favorite Tribal Tech lineup
Wow, what a drummer Kirk Covington is. I have heard him on records but I didn't know he was so charismatic on stage.
Scott Henderson the best!
These guys are F*cking insane musicians. Love it
I'm so glad this performance is being shared!!
Tribal Tech and Scott BEST EVER JAzz Fusion Band and musicians ! Love you Scott !!!!!
This band sound like if one Guy plays on every instrument at the same time. Incredible interplay.
These guys are all the most amazing musicians I've ever seen. Not just individually, but also in the way they come together as a band.
Scott is untouchable here. That's also true for the rest of them too! It's amazing how they realize what music is all about and how to keep it interesting!
Não tem como, não tem nada superior a isso, isso é além dos limites.
6:50 - Kirk's emotional explosion = 2 sticks per minute )) Saw them live in '98 - one of the best shows I've seen. Tribal Tech - get back on stage!
Kirk is one of my favorite drummers ever!
Scott 😀!
Excellent band 👍👍👍👍👍👍
une virtuosité qui vaut de l'or !
Scott's solo on the last song is so explosive yet in perfect control; the drummer is feeding of him and he is feeding off the drummer. So satisfying I had to listen to it three times!
These guys are so incredibly in touch with each other while playing, its almost mind blowing to witness. Kirks body language during half time accents and all the tricky licks he wants you to be aware of is absolutely mind fucking blowing. His drumming is of the fucking chain.
For me this is the window when Kirk Covington was really on fire behind these dudes. Seen them and met Kirk in Portland Oregon in late 90's. Kirk was candid with me in our first conversation that he is the only drummer that really counts in the bands history. Some other drummer who I forgot his name, Russ something did an album with them that Kirk didn't seem to impressed with. Kirk was an amazing drummer to see and talk to.
Genius Scott !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So cool to hear everyone’s reaction to this band. Real musician ‘s !!!
My Favorite JAzz Band!!! Never seen them live... All amazing musicians.
Kirk convington absolutely great
never get enough from dat big wave drum solo
Need a high quality rip from the board of this version of Big Fun. It is unREAL
Thanks for upload. I’ve watched this show so many times years ago. I like the fact they love and play blues music even being a fusion band. Out from this world.
All four unbeaten! Each concert I went to was really outstanding!
so clean, so accurate, he is got a lot of soul not just speed and tricks
Just phenomenal. TT blows my mind every time I listen to them. It would be hard to pack a stage with more musicianship than these four masters!
Kirk is my earliest favourite drummer and no one else's okay? Right!😊
One of the greatest fusion bands to come out of the mid 80's and still to this day killing it!!!!
Un super concert !
Best fusion group of all time, not even close
El solo de Kirk covinton es el mejor que vi en mí vida
Holy shit!!! The Covington solo section was OUT OF CONTROL.
Gary Willis is an excellent bassist. The best.
ABSOLUTLY FANTASTIC !!!!!!!
Thank goodness beauty is in the ear of the beholder. Playing of great complexity and feeling.......Ah who can take up their torch?
Covington is brutal! Love it!
Kirk Covington just goes off on the Big Wave. Off the fricken hook. I don't think I've seen anything quite like it. That's right after Gary Willis kills it. Man I'm so lucky to have found these guys. I need a Covington fix. I'm good.
I was hooked on Tribal tech from the first time I played the "Face First" album. I have all of their albums! I love Scott Henderson's playing, Kirk on the drums and Gary Willis is one badass bassist.
This video is so legendary
Uno de los mejores exponentes del Jazz-Rock
THAT S MUSIC. THE LAST GROUP OF THE JAZZ FUSION PERIOD. GARY AND SCOTT SO GREAT DO NOT SPEAK ABOUT MY CRAZY KIRK. Just an amazing concert.
Nope There's Simon Phillips "Protocol" band ! Thats very advanced fusion!
@@dennisn.9583 wrong, sorry, Simon had a fantastic sound but this is way beyond, harmonically melodically insane attitude uff....
The first track gets me every time.
Thanks for Post. One of my BEST BANDS !!! Yeah !!!!
This clip alone shows this was the best band since Led Zeppelin. Thus earning Tribal Tech the title of being the Led Zeppelin of fusion music.
I got Eddie Van Halen to thank (RIP) for having a sticker on a Tribal Tech album CD where Eddie said Scott Henderson was the best guitarist he ever heard. That sticker on the CD sold me into buying that CD and getting into Tribal Tech.
I was huge into Larry Carlton and he sadly got out of fusion and started doing boring mainstream mellow jazz, so I was super glad when I discovered Tribal Tech who took Carlton's style & material to a way higher level of fusion music.
I just love Crawling Horror. Such intricate arrangement and buildup with stunning solos.
This is great, thanks!
top band of all time, they are so amazing!!!!!
Wow wow wow, incredible, all brilliant musicians.
beautiful music - thank you
Kirk covington tremendous singer and drummer
I'm a guitar player, and I LOVE Henderson. But Gary Willis is a badass - downright scary. I spend as much time watching him as I do Henderson.
Amazing music I love it.
One of the best gigs I've ever seen!
Thx, fascinating stuff!
It NEVER has been a band like this. EVER. every player is his own is unique and brilliant, just phenomenal. and well truly FEROCIOUS. Only one Tribal Tech. Well I'm biased I suppose cos I love them to bits. Particularly Scott Henderson, fuckin' monster player and funny as hell if you ask me.
piacere di avere conosciuto Scott, personalmente è un grande virtuosista .
amazing !!!!!!!
thank's brother!!!!!!!!!!
Bad ass band !! Capt Kirk does it again
Thank you for the post. This music is classic!
Cool to finally see this live! Thanks for posting.
My favorite band ever!!!
Amazing!!
@Rene Coner..Thanks very much for sharing this concert!!!
I've never hear anybody like Scott Henderson in the history of music. I don't care what instrument you play.
I have never heard anyone sound and feel authentically Hendrixy in their blues lines, without trying to sound like Hendrix SOULFUL!
Alan Holdsworth is even better. Scott would admit it too.
@@bardoface Better at what you ignorant dimwit? You're talkin' about completely different styles of guitar. Scott Henderson has a one-of-a-kind approach to the instrument. There's no relation whatsoever. What's worse that somebody that knows absolutely NOTHING about music, is ignorant dumbazz/s, such as yourself, who think they know about guitar, let alone music in general.
@@bardofaceDifferent, yes, but better is a matter of taste.
@@rlm4471 let’s put it this way. Scott looked up to him and even asked Alan over to help him with his tone. His tone and style is obviously influenced massively by Holdsworth.
Wonderful band 👍! !!!
Thanks for uploading the full concert. I've been waiting a long time for someone to do so.
Kirk is a force of nature. Great band all around obviously. That first bass solo, jesus! Love it :)
Cuanto talento y que musica tan increible!!!
De super musiciens qui apportent le top du top !
Oh hell yeah! Great to see that these guys played big gigs. Many thanks for the post!
gran aporte musical
Outstanding.
¡Estuve en este concierto, fue increible!
Gary Willis on bass wtf ahhhhh hellllll yeaaah
היה לי את המזל הגדול להיות בהופעה הזאת! בלתי נשכח!
