- U.S. President Joe Biden delivered his "farewell speech" to Democrats on Monday, backing Vice-President Kamala Harris as the party's presidential nominee as the Democratic National Convention (DNC) opened in Chicago, Ill.
Biden, introduced by his daughter Ashley, used the speech to detail his administration's accomplishments and outline how Harris will continue that work.
"Every week under Donald Trump was infrastructure week," Biden remarked in one of his jabs at the former President. "He never built a damn thing."
Biden took the stage to extended applause from the attendees at the Democratic National Convention, and repeatedly stopped his speech for chants of "we love Joe!" The outpouring of support came after many turbulent weeks and months for the Democratic Party, during which Biden faced increasing pressure to step down as his party's candidate for president.
Democrats quickly rallied around Harris after Biden removed himself from the race in the wake of a disastrous debate with former president Donald Trump, due to mounting criticism over his age and mental acuity. Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz are expected to formally accept the party's nomination during the convention this week.

I agree with the sentiment but for clarity, he hasn't "transferred his seat" to Kamala. He is still the President and she is still VP. All he did was decline the Democratic Party's nomination that he run AGAIN for President in the upcoming election. He then endorsed his VP, Kamala as the person he recommended the party get behind to run as their nominee instead. He had already won the democratic primary with her "on the ticket" as his running mate, so in many respects she'd already been voted to run, by Democrats (and in fact, given Biden's age many would have considered the likelihood of her becoming President during any second term due to incapacity or death of the President as more than an outside chance.) As demonstrated at the DNC, after his withdrawal and the endorsement of many other leading Democrats, each State's Democratic delegates voted and the vote counts were proclaimed during the "roll call". Other than a handful of "present" or "absent" votes, each State either unanimously or overwhelmingly voted for her (and not one delegate against) to be their nominee for President in this election. She was advised before the DNC how the States had voted, from a phone roll call. So the roll call at the DNC was just a fun replay. That's how she knew for sure she was running and had already vetted and selected Tim Walz to be her running mate.
He is by far the best president ever, not by what he did, but by who he is. I am so happy for president Biden to see it himself just how much we love him! He made history with Obama and now he is making another history with his VP. It is just the best of times for all of us.
