- Prismacolor pencils are one of my favorite utensils for drawing. They're especially useful in realistic drawings, but sometimes they're a bit tricky to understand. As a beginner, it can be difficult to figure out where to start with the pencils in your drawing. This video was designed to help beginners with their understanding of these great pencils. :)
EDIT (finally) :
PAPER - Strathmore Toned Gray
BLENDER PENCIL - Koh-I-Noor colorless blender pencil
** i would love to provide the specific colors I used, but unfortunately this was more than 4 years ago as of now (dec 2021), and I no longer know the exact colors. My apologies!!** - Jak na to + styl
love how the pic looks childish at first then slowly transforms into a masterpiece. my first prismas are being shipped. I have just started this adult coloring craze and am hooked. I need all the help I can get. Thank you for the tips and tricks.
Aw thank you so much!! Good luck with your prismas :) I’m super happy you enjoyed the video
I hope you have also discovered Chris Cheng's videos.

I bought some just for coloring, but they're so nice, it got me back into drawing again.
Hi
One thing I know works is when you don't have a colorless pencil for blending ( this only works for prismacolor ) keep the lightest base color you started out with on hand , when you add darker colors , blend with the base color and it will look alot smoother than using white to blend like I have seen many people do
Taigen Sings yes I have heard this too!! I've done it a couple times and it has worked very well!
Using white to blend? Big no no lol
@@minidonut_6315 It actually works very well
mini donut _ that’s racist 😂
@@arjunator2688 you are for saying that, it never crossed my mind 😮😮😮😮😮😮
Yes I did learn one thing......I need a blender pencil
Pixel Gecko j
No, prismacolors blend great by themselves, blender pencils have bad lightfastness and dullen your drawing within less time, and prismacolors already have bad lightfastness
Pixel Gecko or just a white
Pixel Gecko yep
Pixel Gecko use a white colored pencil. Problem solved
your voice is very relaxing to listen to. not trying to sound like a creep but some people I just cringe.
Chere Bear that’s not creepy at all! Thank you so much I’m super glad to hear that!!
I died when you said I’ll demonstrate on a watermelon 😭😭😭 I LOVE HOW YOUR SKILLS ARE SO POLISHED
Rania Ali thank you so much!!
I watched this video one year ago while I was a noob to prismacolors and everything you've said in this video has stuck with me! I now just purchased my new set of prismacolors and dont think I'll stop using them anytime soon. Thank you so much for making this video I dont know where I'd be at if I never would've watched this video (definitely not where I'm at now!) So bottomline, thank you!
Why didn’t art lessons in school teach this? Had to find my love of drawing years later, thanks for this video, and people are right - your voice is soothing :)
Thank you so much!! I’m super glad to help you and your love of drawing. That was so sweet of you to say. 😄
Very informative video, I'm only just starting out with Prismacolors so this was a life-saver. Beautiful drawing as well!
PaleoGeek By Alexander Racini Jr thank you so much! I'm happy to help!
Great video. I love how you talked while the art took shape. No stopping and starting again. Thanks.
I love how you made the drawing actually have dimension and have different textures! Amazing! :)
Thank you so much. I really needed a tutorial like this because I didn’t really know how to make these rich colors and blend them together thoroughly. Now I learned that you have to press gently and keep blending while adding layers.
I’m really happy to have helped! Thank you so much for watching!!
Of the many tips & tricks videos out there, this had very clear instructions and tips. Thank you for this!
KitNavarro you’re welcome! Thank you so much for the kind words!
I am 1:40 seconds into this video ans I have decided to subscribe. Morgan you are charming, honest and so sincere. I'm glad I found you through the maze of CZcams. God bless.
this was super helpful!!!! the drawing is stunning! :)
Thank you so much! I'm super happy to help!
im so excited my first ever set of prismas are coming tomorrow!! and I'm a total beginner so ty for this!!
This was great! So helpful and lovely to watch 🙏
Fully agree with your approach Morgan! The tip about not using so many layers transitioned into my watercolors too, and has served me well. Love your watermelon. I haven’t used my pencils in awhile since I became hooked on watercolor. I need to pick them up again. Since I’m retired and art is my hobby, I have the luxury of forgetting about time for the most part, but I still don’t want to spend days and weeks on one piece. Blessings to you! ❤
Thank you for such a thoughtful comment! I wish you the best of luck in returning to your pencils 😄 I hope it’s a wonderful and relaxing journey for you.
Your video helped me a lot! I think it's all about the technique of blending and not about the quality of my pencils :D I recreated your drawing with really cheap coloured pencils and it turned out really good :D thanks for that :D
I’m so happy to hear that!! Most of these tips work for all types of pencils and I’m happy you were able to figure that out too :) thank you so much!
I just got my prismacolors about a week ago.
currently, I look at tutorials and draw, but I want to branch out and make my own drawings from life. This video was sooo helpful, thank you!
Thank you, for watching and leaving such a wonderful comment :) I hope you have a great time with your pencils!
I paused and found most of the colors.
Red:
Base layer: PC926 (Carmine Red)
Mid Tone: PC923 (Scarlet Lake) + PC 924 (Crimson Red)
Dark Tone: PC 925 (Crimson Lake)
Green:
Light Tone: 912 (Apple green)
Dark Tone: 908 (Dark Green)
And the white and blender pencils, of course,
Hope this helped
Thank you
Thanks
So, so nice! Beautiful work. Just got a chance to watch it. Thanks for the lesson & something beautiful to see & your soothing voice to hear.
Thank you so much! This is my favorite type of video and I'm excited to do more in this style :)

Amazing drawing and use of Prismacolor pencils.
I find using the blender much easier… but your tutorial made me learn how to burnish by watching the video :D
Thank you for helping me with prismacolors!!!! It really helps!
My pleasure!! I'm very happy to have helped you!
In love with the texture of this masterpiece.....well done dude
thank you so much!! In love with your comment !!😄
I like to use the blending pencil the same way you do. I do have a problem using the white pencil the way you show in this video. Not sure why. it never wants to lay down like the other colors. Good work. Thanks for showing us !!
John Benz yes I completely agree! And I'm very glad that you enjoyed the video!!
Absolutely stunning.😊
I really love your suggestion that if I can't afford big set of colour pencil I can always make it right with my old few one. Thank you for saying that. I own few coloured pencils. 😩
This was such a beautiful drawing and I like that you didn't use but a few pencils. I like the detailed instruction also. Thanks!
thank you so much!!!
I just got my first box of prismas and I want to learn at least a bit before I try them, thanks for the tips!
You make it look so easy, amazing!

Thank you for explaining everything you do in the video. The art work is very nice. I enjoy working with alot of different mediums, but I prefer graphite pencil, markers and colored pencils. Thank you again
Thank you very much for watching! I appreciate your comment very much!
Excellent work on the details of this peace! 😀
Jillian Lillie Hawk thank you very much!!
it’s piece.
lighing flash no, but i tend to correct.. incorrect spelling.
Thank you so much! This was super helpful!! Love your watermelon.
Tamara Ross thank you!! That super sweet :)
I got my first prismacolors yesterday for my birthday, and my blenders come tomorrow. I feel so impatient!
I need to get these prismacolor pencils!!
A friend sent me a case of Prisma color pencils for Christmas. Mostly I have drawn digitally, but I've been trying to get into traditional media. I must say though, the process still seems daunting. My first forays yielded decent drawings that didn't look great when colored, and there's no undo button! So I decided to look up some tutorials. This was very helpful, I keep hearing people mention burnishing with colored pencils but that seems like a good way to eat a lot of pencil fast to me. This is the first I hear of an uncolored burnishing pencil, so I'll be looking that up and playing around with it. Thanks.
Also I agree with other people, you have a very pleasant sounding voice.
Off I go to look up more tutorials! I gotta say, the quality of the pencils is really intimidating!
Shannon Olivas Thank you so much! That was a very kind thing to say. And yes, I agree that colored pencils can seem very daunting. But it all starts to click with a lot of practice, and once you're comfortable with them the reidlos can be very intriguing! And unfortunately, burnishing does eat up a pencil. But, I believes the product makes it worth it. Good luck working with your pencils!!!
Wow! This is exactly what I needed.
GreenTreeko 1 Thank you u so much! I'm glad to help.
Ty Morgan you are very talented ❤️
As a newbie, I only wish you'd shown the colorless blender pencil--but your drawing was helpful!
Love water melons 😋 great demo!
You can also use solvent to blend instead of burnishing. It preserves the tooth if the paper, so you can add more layers. You also don't get that waxy layer.
Yes, I've seen that before! It looked very interesting.
This right here, is the video that introduced me to prisma colours
Thank you so much!!! It makes me so happy to read that :)
Morgan Draws yasss i use them all the time now,, thank you💗
An other option is to use gamasol with a blending stump. Or an alcohol marker blending pen. As someone who has issues with my joints specifically in my hands, I've had to figure out some alternatives. Hope that's helpful
Thank you for sharing! I recently purchased an alcohol marker blending pen and was curious to try it.
Your video was very helpful. God bless you.
thank you so much :)
I love watching you draw❤
thank you so much. It really means a lot to me :)
Such a good job at explaining!
Jennifer Thorpe Thank you so much!!
Wow I love it!
thank you!!!
I love this video so much!!! I also love your voice! God bless you 😄
thank you very much :)
Amazing! I use the prismacolor pencil also
So Beautiful!♥
This was really helpful, thanks!
thank you so much! It's my pleasure :)
Beautiful!
thank you!!
This video helped me so much! Tysm!
WOW .Thank you for the tips
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! I'm struggling to understand shading. Where was the light source in this drawing?
Hello! The light source for this drawing would have been almost directly above the watermelon. The best indication of this would probably be from looking at the cast shadow beneath the fruit. Thank you so much for your question!
Thank you, very helpful video.
Excellent work
Shamim Art Academy thank you very much!
really good video! beautiful voice too :) which white pencil do you use?
or does somebody else knows about a good white pencil to highlight over colored areas?
I love your technique and how achievable yet very effective it is. Glad to discover you. New subscriber here!
Thank you so much!!! I’m super glad you enjoyed it, and even more glad you wanted to subscribe! Thank you again!😊😊
@@MorganDraws oh my God you replied! I enjoyed it a lot. Just browsing how to use the prismacolor given to me years ago and I'm glad I can finally use them. Keep creating art!!!
Clary Gillamac Of course! I love to stay in contact with the lovely people who watch my videos. Thank you so much and good luck with all your creations!
I see that you were asked twice what are the exact colors that you used, but you never replied. I would love to know the same thing, the exact colors used. Love how you work.
Thank you very much for the compliments, but unfortunately, I don't know the exact colors I used. I drew this over a year ago, so I really don't know specifically the colors I chose.
nice piece!
Nicely done
Thanks that really help [ love your vids]
very nice result! I really like it! :)
Indrajit Art School thank you so much! :)
I have a question
What sketchbook do you use? Also Does the blending pencil comes with prismacolors,or you have to get it seperatetly?
Also amazing drawing, and beautiful voice :) Good job!
(Sorry for my grammar, english isnt my first language)
The sketchbook is the Strathmore Toned Gray sketchbook. The blending pencil unfortunately comes separately, but there are many different brands that sell a blending pencil. Thank you so much for watching!!😊
Wonderful!
Love it! Thanks!
I like to do a softer burnish before going over with the white pencil for highlights. That way you can still get a brighter white if you need it. And the white is good for burnishing and blending too. It's funny, before I started using Prismacolors, I just assumed white colored pencils were useless, but really, I use up just as many white pencils as I do black.
Honestly, I use even more white pencils than I do black!!! The white pencil has proved to be extremely important to me :)
Congrats! Your vid is the first result when I search 'prismacolor'
that’s fantastic!!!!! Thank you so much for letting me know! 😁😁
I feel like I'm several lifetimes away from doing anything near this good
Waw. It's very beautiful.
Thanks so much!!!
Where did you buy your prismas I’m having trouble finding mine
thanks a bunch for this video!
Thanks so much for watching!!!
What colours did you use? For dummies like me who can't draw if you were able to provide a line drawing that would be very useful! I love this pic of watermelon!
Great video!
Your watermelon looks so simple drawn bit so realistic
Recently ordered my first prismas and am excited to use them. Have been using no-name "artist-quality" pencils until now, but they're pretty terrible. Find it very hard to layer them and a couple have strange quality control issues like the entire center part pushing through the pencil out of the back.
Whoever told you those are "artist-quality" pencils are lying. Even the "Scholastic" brand for primary school children are better than that. BTY, Scholastic's are not wax-based. I am told they are hard graphite. Just like hard regular pencils. Unsure if this is correct.
Omg thnx so much I finally reached to a realistic level
What kind of paper are you using? Loved the draw 😍
any advice on how and what to use prismacolor in skin tones?
Hey this was the first video I saw you earned a new sub but one question how do you make the colors look shiny because when I color it looks different it looks rough
RedSlimebeast Playz Since I drew this on toned gray paper the white pencil and the highlights seem extra shiny. But the highlights pop the most once I use the blender pencil.
Morgan Draws Have you made a tutorial on using the blender pencil if you haven’t can you please make one.
RedSlimebeast Playz I haven’t yet, but I will definitely look to make one in the future!
Can you do a video on how to blend different colors? i have difficulties in blending
Thanks 🖤
Just beautiful 🍉
Fantastic. Can I ask what the white pencil was. Thanks.
The white pencil? It was just a white colored pencil from the same set as all of the other ones. A standard white pencil. :)
why is her voice so soothing though?
