    The idea behind the prop is that it was supposed to look like something the Ghostbusters cobbled together on a shoestring budget; it was never supposed to look like a professional, slick piece of equipment. I think the prop fits the "cobbled together" specification perfectly.

    Old video but that's a GBII hero pack. The signs that give it away are the alice frame its mounted on, the tilt of the neutrino wand (on GBI they stood vertical but in GBII they tilted them back to make it easier for the boys to pull), and finally the ribbon cable. The ribbon cable in GBI was way more colorful and is also a harder design to find. Us GB cosplayers usually custom make them because they are so hard to find or we just build a GBII pack. In the lore of the films and universe the packs get retrofitted to deal with each new threat. The GB1 packs deal with the Gozer threat, 2 is retrofitted to better handle Vigo, and then in the videogames they need what I call the Monster Pack to deal with Ivo Shandor. It looks like in Afterlife the packs have been modified back down to a GBII pack.

    • @Benjamoose
      @Benjamoose Před 2 lety

      Yes, I understand that. Santos isn't talking about GBII's dark suits when they say "gray". They're referring to the light colored suits that appear in GB1 and parts of GBII. In the first movie, there was only one suit color, in the second movie, there were two.
      In the first movie the suits were a khaki ripstop material. Additionally Gibson and Barnes didn't use their own materials, the material was supplied to them (formally Flight Suits Ltd.) by the studio and then manufactured by them.
      The suits appear as follows:
      1. GB1 (Light) - Khaki Ripstop Fabric
      2. GB2 (Light B) - Khaki Herringbone Fabric
      3. GB 2 (Dark) - Sentinel Gray/Charcoal
      Santos is talking about the two light variations (1. and 2.). Both of which are Khaki/Tan in real life, but confuse a lot of people as they appeared to look a light-gray color in the movie due to film stock and studio lighting.

    The company or companies that manufactured alice pack straps in the 80s and still manufactures alice pack straps nowadays should've put padding inside the straps so the prop makers wouldn't have to go through the trouble of putting extra padding in the straps, that way they could've have used the padded straps throughout Ghostbusters (1984) and Ghostbusters II (1989) and the costume designers/makers should've used clear tubes on the jumpsuits throughout the first movie too instead of yellow tubes.

    • @Mkai2000
      @Mkai2000 Před 8 lety +2

      For the people in my group (The Ghostbusters Of Salt Lake City) it really just depends on what movie you are basing your pack off of... if you are making a GB1 proton pack, we just stick to the straps that dont have padding to match what is seen in the film. If we are making a GB2 proton pack (identified by the different ribbon cable) we will try and get the padded straps. (also to match what is seen in the film)

    • @JoshuaModerwell
      @JoshuaModerwell Před 7 lety

      Well if I had the skills to build my very own proton pack, I would definitely base mine on the GB2 style proton pack with padded shoulder straps so that it would feel more relaxing in my shoulders. Like I mentioned earlier, the company or companies that manufactured alice pack straps should've had padding put inside the shoulder straps in the first place so the prop makers wouldn't have to go through the trouble to put padding inside the straps.

They are and were made for a specific reason and they have / had no problem selling them so really no reason to change them. :-)
