This is what most of today's music lacks, passion and thinking outside the box. Exceptional talent! Music these days you only need to hear the first 30 seconds to know how the rest of the song goes.
Surprised that no studio version exists or has yet to be unearthed. Gorgeous song.

@@ArbitraryLifestyle That’s a pretty limited perspective. Many studio versions of songs are superior to live versions. There is so much more that can be captured in a studio setting that can’t be replicated live.
@@MojoPin1983 I politely disagree with both of you. I think that both versions are just different.
Studio version is the best take possible, with the best controlled environment possible, with a lot of time and planning behind, retakes, selected equipment, etc.. If you want to hear what the band composed, what the vision of the song from their perspective is, then this is the most accurate way.
Live versions to me are the greatest representation of what art originally was back when recording wasnt a thing, and a great way to preserve the experience. There are no retakes, just that one time. Sure you can enhance, mix, master the tracks if they were recorded separately in post production, but you cant ask Jeff to do the same thing again, and the mood he and the band had in that precise moment cannot be replicated. Thats something that studio recording misses, because if they mess up they can just do it again, but misses and sound defects, the room reverb, the people singing along, the comments he did that night, all of that is legit, and is the only way to travel back in time to that moment, at least as an spectator from the future, behind the glass of our phones/pc monitors/tvs.

I'm moving to TN soon and was going through some things, packing for the move. I found a movie ticket that I had written the name of the girl I went with, "Tara R." in 1996. Growing up in a small town in Georgia I had ZERO exposure to music like this or music of any variety really. Country, country, country!!! That's all they played. It's so neat and sad to think about people in the audience getting to experience Jeff and having "a fucking magical moment", while other people in the world have not even zero idea that it exists.

To be brutally honest it wasn’t one of his best songs, but it doesn’t matter cause it’s all about Jeff and the band’s beautiful way of expression and talent to form the music together in such a great way it becomes a joyful experience to the listener. One of the greats gone too soon. ❤️🎶
I actually think What Will You Say is one of his better songs, though this version isn’t spectacular. I prefer the Glastonbury, and Mystery White Boy versions.
