@@Cortichelate he has done language 1

@@Cortichelate He did Language 1: Intuition
This entire album and the album, Language, were both written about a close friend of the writer who's mother died, causing said friend to spiral into depression, eventually resorting to heroin and overdosing. Language was primarily about the relationship between the friend and the mother, and it was very metaphorical. Clairvoyant was about slowly losing his friend to heroin until his passing, and it was much more straightforward.
Back story to this entire album, itâs about the lead singers good friend who went through a downward spiral after losing his mother. I believe resorting to drugs and eventually losing his life as well. This album is his way to reconnect to his friend. This song feeds into the last song on the album called Monochrome (Pensive), highly recommend jumping into that. The whole album is a story of it all. Puts a true meaning to everything going on. Very sad story as well. Keep up the good work though, love your videos man!
Monochrome (Pensive) is an incredible track
Monochrome (pensive) is their best track to my ears. Such an incredibly emotional piece of work...
Really hope someone in the youtube game will finally react to it.
Yeah, both Language and Clairvoyant are versions of the same story. Language being the abstract part and Clairvoyant being the emotional part from Lessards relationship with his lost friend. Very sad story, very nice art
Pensive is such a masterpiece, the ending/outro is one of the most cathartic moments I've experienced in music, after listening through the whole album.
Thanks for this backstory. I never looked into their background but the first time I heard them I was working nights alone in a big wood shop, I would blast Contortionist and Voices from the Fuselage and just fly. This track in particular as well as the lyrics(nodding on and on, skin and bones), being a recovering addict myself, gave me so man emotions and feelings. Very grateful for this band.
I just love how vulnerable this era of the contortionist makes you feel.
The Contortionist has a great discography, they're great
This album is a masterpiece from start to finish and deserves to be listened to in one sitting. One of the greatest albums I've ever heard right next to Lateralus.
This and Language are masterpieces. I swear TC is one of the best prog bands of our generation.
this song gets me right in the heart. every time.
PLEASE do Monochrome (Pensive) or Clairvoyant by them, i love this band
These 2 are the best on the album for me, of course the whole album is wonderful but those are my favorite
@@Koivisto147 same, specially monochrome
This song stills in my top 3 each year in spotify, beautiful
Monochrome (Pensive) is, by far, one of their best pieces. would love to see a reaction
Hey, fellow Disco fan :)
Awrighht!
The Contortionist - Ebb and Flow, Reimagined
Aviations - Outliers (Retrospect) đ€
whoa, another aviations fan!
If youâre taking suggestions from here, how bout another one from the contortionist? Look up âReimaginedâ but do the version that is their âMachine Shop Liveâ performance. They went into a studio, did interviews with a studio engineer and he mixed them and they did a live take then and there. It was honestly extraordinary. Such control and presence for a band, and a phenomenal rendition of their song that differs slightly from the album. I love it when they can prove they can do what they record in a real setting, or even add to it.
I second this, that is the best version of the song
This song is incredible. Favourite track from Clairvoyant
Omg fuck yes.
he should do the rediscovered versions from language, The Parable is my favorite
Thanks for showing me this. This album is gut wrenching i havent felt those emotions ever in my life. I needed that. Heartbreaking and beautiful album.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you geebs. I needed this
Got to meet the contortionist, super nice guys! One of my favorite songs ever off of one of my favorite albums ever from one of my favorite bands ever, haha! đ€
I learned about the band because of your channel, now i can't stop listening to their last two albums. This song is one of the best imo, but I especially like Reimagined - that bass at the beginning \_/
Also, this song includes a reference to 6gig - Tincan Experiment, which is done great I believe
Last live show I saw before the pandemic was The Contortionist opening for Devin Townsend. Fell in love with them and I probably listen to them every day. Their compositions, evolution, and lack of fear to fit a prog mold, or a metal mold, or any kind of mold probably loses them listeners, but gains permanence in my spirit. I hope you find the rest of their catalogue as fulfilling regardless if you "do a vid" on them or not. This is how we connect!
Please check out The Contortionist - Flourish!
hell yeah dude The Contortionist is amazing. Solid song to get to as well, hope you get around to some of their heavier stuff as well. one of the best things about The Contortionist (for me) is the growth they have gotten over the years. some really amazing stuff all around. keep it up dude, prog all the way. :^)
I want to see them next time they pass thru close to me.
Love this song and band. More Contortionist please!
Why was I thinking The Contortionist was death metal? This song was so chill.
I think theyâre prog metal but this album was certainly lighter than their previous releases. Phenomenal album from start to finish.
Their first 2 albums were death metal with the old vocalist. But even with the heavy death metal, the songs are still very contortionist, and possess very ambient elements.
This is my favorite Contortionist song. Thanks for reacting to it. I always get new insight to these songs from your reviews. Keep them coming!
Can't go wrong with Contortionist! "Monochrome (Pensive)" would be great to see a reaction to!
Beautiful song! Great show! Thank you!
This is technically a part two in this album. There is another song that leads into this song called Reimagined. This album is one of my favorite albums of all time and that's saying something considering I never listened to this band or cared for them before it. Every song from start to finish is just a masterpiece and completely engulfs everything you are doing while listening to it. Such a complete work of true art.
Name of the album
Its a good album but I still prefer language
@@armaang96 clairvoyant
@@Cortichelate thank you đđ»
@@armaang96 The Contortionist - Clairvoyant
awwwwright, he's back!
So happy you got to this one. Requesting again because it bears repeating: âSky Machineâ by Karnivool
Yes! my favourite track off asymmetry! beautiful
The Parable plz. That one profoundly impacts me every time I listen to it
Yes!!!! The contortionist are amazing! Love this song too
Yes! VOLA - 24 Light Years
Definitely one of there best soft songs !
honestly my favorite contortionist track is Early Grave
Yessss!! :D glad to see you back on these guys!
Going to put in my latest find again too:
Band: Wheel. Songs: Wheel, and dissipated. If you like contortionist, karnivool, tool etc you will love these guys. Thoughtful, well crafted prog rock.
awwwright ;)
Wheeeeel yeah
Another good songs from they: primordial sound, Language 2: conspire, flourish, oscillator, holomovement, geocentric confusion.
Love geocentric confusion. That song is such a damn trip
man, i donÂŽt know how to explain it but you help me see how beautifull life is, thank you
Omg I just fully had an emotional deep sing to this song and then I see you've done a reaction to it đđ aaaaaaa â€ïž
Oceansize-Trail of Fire
Would be amazing to see this one day
Such a good album
I would LOVE to see Geebz dig into some Oceansize. I feel like I've seen quite a few musicians (John Petrucci, who shared them on his website back in the day - that's how my drummer buddy found them, who would eventually introduce me to their music, Misha from Periphery, among others....) talk about them, but they don't get nearly enough shine from other people.
Oo yes! Oceansize is so underrated along with Pg.Lost
Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude YES
Yeah definitely check out the contortionist's machine shop video for Early Grave next. Then go blow your mind with the heavy jazz that is Feedback Loop or Dreaming Schematics, I have a feeling those will be perfect for you.
Then do Thrive, followed by Ebb & Flow.
That whole album is incredible đ€
Great reaction đ
Just last night, I watched an interview with a couple members of Portishead, and Adrian talked about how the engineer on Dummy was as much of a band member as anyone else at the studio. It even says it on their wikipedia page.
"Portishead consists of Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley, while sometimes citing a fourth member, Dave McDonald, an engineer on their first records."
I saw the song you chose and had to click immediately. It is probably one of my favorite contortionist songs
I'm 2 minutes and 25 seconds in and I know I'm going to love this and I've never heard of the contortionist!
As an mixing engineer I thank you for your comments at the end lol
We need more The Contortionist
Another Contortionist track I think you'd love is 'Reimagined'. That was the track that sucked me in, and it's really difficult not to fall in love with.
Youre the only react channel i can forgive for pausing the jams, i love ur input
Love this band a lot of meter changes really dig this đ€
Hey Geebz I've been binge watching probably 60 videos. I really enjoy your content and love how much you upload. You're already a legend! Anyways, happy belated birthday. Thanks for all the work you put in these.
A delayed happy happy birthday
plz do more contortionist... such an incredible band.
which reminds me! if you search youtube for "nail the mix the contortionist" there should be a result from the youtube channel, URM Academy "Unboxing The Contortionist" - this is a video made by Eyal Levi who worked as Producer with The Contortionist on their 2012 release, Intrinsic.
Eyal goes into a little background and insight into how The Contortionist work during the recording stage and the raw tracks Eyal showcases on the video, are fantastic to hear and value the musicianship on their own merit - as well as realise just how good a job Jamie King did on the engineering himself ;)
The Contortionist - Flourish
The Contortionist - Causality
Love these guys! Saw them in Philly just before the pandemic hit. Two artists to check out who were part of that night are Haken (yeah, I know...I keep brining them up, but you gotta) - "Prosthetic" or "The Cockroach King." Also Devin Townsend (who I know you listened to before), "Genesis" or "Stormbending." And, always my way out there suggestion: Fair To Midland - "Amarillo Sleeps on My Pillow" Keep rockin'!
Big Request : Ulver - I Troldskog Faren Vild
So stoked for this!!
Love your perspective drawn from your fountain of experience in music and understanding of the music making process beyond just recording :) especially your points about the mixing and engineering!
Please do mote Coheed and Cambria! I recommend In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth, Gravity's Union, and The Gutter. Keep up the good work!
Yes!!! More coheed!! In keeping secrets of silent earth is my favorite album by them!!
@@Aaron-CO I second this, and the title track is one of my favorite songs in general
Yess!! Keep the Contortionist train going!
Thanks!
Happy Birthday Geebz. Glad you had a fun weekend! đ€
The Contortionist is great. I've seen them open for Between The Buried and Me a few times and they're just an all-around amazing band. Speaking of Between the Buried and Me, I know you have already done "Astral Body" but please check out their live version of "Extremophile Elite". You will not be disappointed!
yesss, now this is something ive been waiting for!!
Happy belated birthday, Geebz! Hope it was great. STOKED to see more from The Contortionist on your channel. Clairvoyant is one of my favorite albums of late. Hoping to see The Hex by Circa Survive come across my feed one day. â
I would delighted to see your breakdown on "Faith in Others" by Opeth, one of my favorite chilling tracks.
Nice, second this one!
Yes sir
Yes please father
âFaith in Othersâ my all time favorite by Opeth. They never played it live, I think because it would be to emotional for Mikael Ă kerfeldt.
I love listening to the previous song on the album (Pale Communion) beforehand âVoice of Treasonâ. In fact for me itâs actually one song.
One of my favorite bands, amazing live
Please come back to these guys for the lead up to your 1 year anniversary! You gotta do Monochrome (Pensive).
This album is amazing to me! One of those releases you donât like when you first hear it cause the band evolved so much from what youâre used to. Then decide to check it out a year later and it becomes a favorite.
P.s. No YOU have a real lush bottom end.
Thats exactly what happened with the latest Animals as Leaders album the Madness of Many to me.
Still need to deep dive in Contortionist but everytime I hear it I already like it
The Contortionist is criminally underrated, maybe the best prog band out there now. Thanks for this! \m/
Band that hits the core and helps ya through some hard times, that timing tho đ€€
Good job bro
this song is unbelievably good
just a quick comment to add. the composition of the vocals are so interesting. it's more to the area of the synths and held notes, but this vocalist is VERY creative, his melodies vary a lot. personally, I find very hard to compose vocals on top of such complex instrumental arrangements, and I think Michael Lessard nailed it! that sweet spot, using the vocal's space and not fighting with the rest of the instruments.
I think you should check out Regress/The Moon/Awake (its two songs that open an album) by The Dear Hunter. Tons of orchestration with rock etc. i think you would love it.
Honestly that, writing on a wall/in cauda venenum, or rebirth/old haunt/waves would be super sick! Always super strong openings by TDH
@@rareformx rebirth/the old haunt would also be great. The Old Haunt is one of my favorites by them!
Hey Geebz, youâre genuinely my favorite channel on CZcams right now, I look forward to hearing your thoughts and dissection on music daily. Would really love to see you revisit this album in your 30 day countdown with the title track from this album, Clairvoyant. It is my favorite song and itâs beautiful, mesmerizing, and a masterpiece. Thanks for all you do, congrats on the 200K and for the big one year anniversary.
Yes! Perfect vid to end my day!
Awesome! Thank you for doing more Contortionist
I've been watching your videos for a few weeks now, and just registered your dinosaur collection. I love them
I think, that Isis would be a great band to react to. They don't exist anymore as a band, but they made such a deep impression on me with every single release. Difficult to pick a favorite, maybe:
Isis - Not in rivers, but in drops
or
Isis - Weight
My favorite Isis song is Dulcinea... in fact it is my favorite song ever... of all time from all bands. :-D I'd be so happy to have an Isis song reaction.
In Fiction will always be my favorite song if only for the last two minutes.
YESSSSS!!!!!!
Kamelot - Memento Mori
Dream Theater - Space Dye Vest
Kamelot
You gotta do Monochrome (Pensive.) Such a beautiful track that I think you'd love.
Pretty new to your channel, love the great diversity of tracks you're listening to and I love me some Contortionist đ€ Would love to see you react to some The Dear Hunter, I think you'll really really appreciate them as a composer. I recommend A Night on the Town
I love the way you break everything down and get into so many different songs/bands/singers, your reactions are always so open and genuine. I've always been curious about the thoughts of a composer when it comes to acapella groups though, and how their voices are the instruments, and how things differ between a usual band versus one that only uses their vocal instruments. Have you listened to many acapella groups, or care much for that? There are many great ones out there, the most well known probably being Pentatonix, but Home Free is wonderful as well and getting recognition. If you ever could or would react to an acapella group though(or you have and I've missed that, sorry!), I'd suggest Voiceplay, perhaps Carry on Wayward Son. Their arrangements and voices are spectacular, and I would love to hear your thoughts. Keep up the great work and the great channel!
He NEEEEEDS to do something off Intrinsic. đ€đ»đ€đ»đ€đ» That album is incredible. Exoplanet is obviously the incredible beyond words, but I think heâd really enjoy some Intrinsic.
Dude you gotta do their song, absolve. that's my favourite. so many turning cogs
Wintersun - Loneliness very emotional song
Love your channel, Love your reactions and knowledgable enthusiasm.. and Aries are the best!! Along side the Gemini! \m/
Hey Geebz. Awesome to see more Contortionist on your channel.
As others have said, you must check out Monochrome (Pensive) and Monochrome (Passive). Both are right up your alley and I think youâd really enjoy.
Appreciate you man!
underrated band
Still need to see the songs Triumvirate and States by Cloudkicker. It is 2 songs, but Triumvirate is barely a minute and the transition between songs almost melds them into one
I got to see the original Language tour when I was 15 and it was sick af.
I would love to see you react to Apocalypticaâs Not Strong Enough!
Pleaseee do a reaction for Flourish by The Contortionist, the middle passage is just godly
I've been listening to a bunch of your videos; I tend toward less radio-play style music, but I like that you review both. I'll drop this suggestion, I don't think you'll be disappointed:
Song: Jinn
Band: Monuments
I heard you say in one of your vids that you don't pay too much attention to lyrics, you're more interested in the singer's tone... but I just realised your channel started with a lot of spiritual/meditation music. If you're into Eastern Spirituality (particularly Taoism and Zen Buddhism I think) then I would highly suggest you give The Contortionist's lyrics some attention! Especially the album "Language"... The album even finishes with a little clip of one of Alan Watts' talks!
He has to react to diablo swing orchestra truely a must listen..it will throw him for a LOOP!!
I'd recommend The Shadow, by Toothgrinder.
It's just an absolute masterpiece. One of my top 10 songs
You should check out Selkies: The Endless Obsession by Between the Buried and Me. I think you'll like the adventure and complexity!
Geebz please please please do a review of The Contortionist - The Parable (rediscovered version) the video of possible also. An absolutely breathtaking performance that moves me to tears almost every listen. You will not regret. And thank you.
hey, btw, Shokran responded to your reaction to Ethereal.
Love your channel, especially your prog reactions. Would love to see you do a reaction and breakdown of Close to the Edge by YES.
if you dug this please check out the whole album, cd hasnt left my disc player in my car since it came out!
