Also something to note around Mighty Car Mods: we are normal guys and are not trained mechanics. We like to make interesting car mods and show you how we've gone about it, but we can't promise that anything we show you will work for your particular car, or that you won't harm yourself, someone else, your car or your warranty doing it. Please be safe, be responsible and unless you know what you're doing, do not fool around with very serious machinery just because you've seen us make it look so easy. What I have always used is the factory windshield washer squirter system with washer fluid instead of water. The washer system is already there just simply move the nozzles. Washer fluid contains alcohol which evaporates faster providing better cooling. Lastly the washer system typically holds 1 gallon/3.79l and is easy to refill. Or you can also take the washer system from another car at a junkyard. Basically the bottle, washer pump, any momentary switch, some hoses, spray nozzles, and some wire. Check many different cars and trucks for different designs and sizes to fit your car. I'm happy with the 1.5l washer system I got from a 1960's mustang. It uses a bag similar to an I.V. bag instead of a hard plastic bottle. The heavy duty bag allows mounting in tight odd shaped locations and the pump is already installed inside the bag.
I was going to say the same thing, but use a clap valve to redirect the water and still keep both washer sprayers on your hood
Alcohol has a latent heat roughly 1/3 of water, which is a negative.
Latent heat is the amount of energy released or absorbed during phase change; in other words by introducing alcohol into the system you are lowering the amount energy that will be absorbed during the evaporation.
GillTy Yep. Faster evaporation is not as efficient.
Exactly what I was thinking D J Dragon. Could also use a combo of water methanol, or water alcohol, and mixing yourself is hella cheap!
Gary Looper Use straight water for this. For water INJECTION, like spraying it into the intake to reduce knock, then methanol is a good idea.
The entertainment value of this show is amazing.
+exoduslnx Why does moog always hate the cars that martin likes? I can understand hating the turd and stuff because front wheel drive. But the miata is a pure sports car, not very different from an s2000 that moog later gets. Man he can't even pretend to be nice about martin's cars when martin is so happy and enthusiastic about them and moog just crushes him every time.

I'll support your show with my undying love and determination
So tell us again how many BHPs or kilowatts do your sticker give our cars?
Awh yeahhhh
I'd love to buy a hoodie if you get some in.
Choppa Pig Indeed. Hoodie would be perfect!
Why not use window washer sprayer.
You could get whole systems at the wrecking yard.
Tank - pump - hoses - spray nozzles
Wire up a switch and you got it.
My thoughts exactly. Super easy if the car has a rear window sprayer to repurpose.
Not sure if you watched the whole video because we covered this...
Mighty Car Mods Oops, you caught me.. :/ Need to cut down on the pre-mature commentation.
Callan Christensen I bet its not the only pre-mature problem you have.
SLiC thanks for the obligatory terrible CZcams comment. You have served your purpose.
"spray all ya maad plants with all ya maaad water". gotta love moog.
Great video,
The mesh over the front of the cars is also used as a bug catcher, when night driving in the sticks swarms of bugs smother the front of the car stopping air flow, its easier to shake the mesh on the side of the road than clean a radiator
"Just relax a bit dude!"
"My finger's stuck!"
- absolutely pissed myself laughing!
My mum was sat right next to me and she was giving me some weird looks xD
Fap it up and spray everywhere!
thank god you guys are back to doing stuff like this. I couldn't barely stand the Lend Us A Ride or Gramps series that much. The DIY video are where it's at; the reason I subscribed to you guys years ago.
Yup I hope they stick with it again
I liked the lend us a ride! I like it all!
6:20 One of those classic "Close your eyes and listen" moments :3
This makes me want to get one wired up to fire off when the IATs reach a certain point while full throttle. Oh, and with the system only activated when sport mode is active.
So many cool things to do to the car.
Would that fit my honda?
Tired of your shit Turbo Yoda is!
Mk, mr R34 .... :P
Sweat!!! I did mine a bit different though, I used the windshield wiper fluid tank instade. I simply rearranged the tubes, and now I can control the spraying by a push of a bottom.
"Spray all your MAD plants with all your MAD water" I cried 😂
Same 😂
This is a good example of idea sharing and why people all over the world should get along better than they do. Good show MCM guys, thanks!
That firewall line feeding commentary though
With that can air filter watch out for big puddles. I put one on a previous car and drove through a large amount of water and hydro locked the engine because water splashed up in the engine bay. No joke, it was a bad day. Stock filters the air duct curves around and is much harder for water to get sucked in.
You guys are great.
2019 anyone? Realistically speaking this is actually a decent mod
Yes.. that's why they did it
Pretty much all of their mod videos are still relevant.
This kind of stuff is why I fell in love with MCM in the first place. Keep up the great work guys. Maaaaaaadd episode
You guys should do an episode continuing this with a button and electric pump to do the work for you. That would be a cool bonus, even if for mcmtv2.
AH yes!
This is the mighty car mods we all miss and love!
Cheap DIY car mods with fun commentary.
WE NEED MORE OF THIS AWESOME DIY STUFF!!!
I like how this time you guys showed yourselves going to buy the parts, just added that bit more to the show.
Great work! Although I would have scavenged a washer bottle, pump and nozzles from a wrecked car that way its all electric.
How come that intercooler isn't sprayed BLAAAAAAAAACKKK?
Because they realised it's a stupid idea.
Jacob S
You didn't watch the video of them testing black ones then?
R33Racer Yes I did and it didn't prove that it did anything, if anything it was the opposite.
Jacob S
So that's a *no* then. Go watch it again.
R33Racer Dont you understand what he said? It's only gonna get warmer not colder..
mcm coming through with the proper 10$ diy job. Good one boys! I use a radiator sprayer with a resevoir tank on my drift car too keep it cool while sideways. Works like a charm
Hi, can u guys install a Flame thrower in exhaust. On eBay its described as a easy fitting but is not as easy as said
I used a old paint ball gun and use Co2 to cool my intercooler and it works so well the intercooler after the first few sprays it is frosty
I just ran a old brake hard line looped with tiny tiny holes all over it and then zipped it down on the face of the intercooler I even kept the trigger and handle of the paint ball gun so it looks sweet
Is it just me or these videos from time to time is full of sexual references/jokes (6:20) and at the end, when moog is pumping :D
The entire firewall part was a gigantic sexual innuendo.
Lots of homoerotica for sure. Moog's a vegetarian and always talks about man sex. Hmmmmm?
I miss all the sick cheap diys from you guys. Love this episode!
"spray all your mad plants with your mad water" haha that made me laugh more then it probably should of haha
Yeah man! Just get a couple extra washer nozzles, unhook the ones from your hood, reroute your lines and mount nozzles in the bumper, and just use the factory switch :)
Why not just tap into your front washer lines? That way you could just hit the washers. You get a nice cool intercooler *and* a really clean windshield. Win, win!
Thank you for the pool example, it was simple yet it conveyed the meaning very well for me.
Your explanation on evaporation was better then when the professor was trying to teach us it.
So happy to see what looks like a "regular episode"
When are we going to see the daihatsu from key to the city?
That's what I was thinking
I thought they scrapped it when they had finished with it
That's a good point.
go watch Kei to the city behind the sceans
JDMdrift toyota Seen it, Moog shipped it to Australia?
I recently traded my 95' v8 mustang for a 97' miata and i absolutely love it!!
Funny shit close your eyes at 6:18min and just imagine.
baraki808 Oh yeah? So tell me what u think about the min 12:54...
Open your eyes and just imagine xD
baraki808 i really dont want to
baraki808 I actually tried it hahahah lol !!!
now that was funny... LMAO best comment here
😂😂
Have to say its good to see you back on the driveway cheers guys
I told this to my dad, that we could do it. But he asked, is it deionised (/demineralized? Don't know the translation) water? As normal water might leave calcic on your intercooler and insulate it.. (sorry if the translations are wrong, all these names are different in Holland :3)
Another good idea and also on a budget is actually using one of the windshield sprayers which actually has a little motor that jet sprays just extend the hose and run it to your intercooler and spray just by pulling your wiper controls instead of pumping while you driving and come with own little water tanka :)
Also the EVO 9 has factory intercooler sprayers
this System is a bit tricky to some so here's mine:
what you need is:
1 - a tube similar to the one that used for your windshield sprayers
2- a tri-tube link
3- something that acts as a remote valve closer (this is optional and sometimes may replace the tri-tube connector, also likely remote controlled)*
4- a nozzle (one that can spray the entire intercooler and fits in the tube you're gonna use)
how to:
1- open hood
2- locate Windshield Spray hoses
3- best if cut in the very beginning of it to make a better look and efficient system
4- we're gonna refer to the Sprays hose part with SH and the Motor part with MP
stick the Tri-tube in the MP so it leaves 2 open ends
5- now select one of the ends and link it to the close valve, after that link the other end of the close valve to the SH
6- if your valve is remotely controlled better test it now and if it's functional then go to step 8
7- if your valve is switch controlled then it's easy sometimes to run the cables to the interior and stick it to where you want
8- now run the 2nd open part with a hose to the intercooler....link the hose with the spray after correctly placing it facing the intercooler
that's it! when you want your intercooler to be "cool" just lock the valve and spray! the windshield sprays might lose pressure but....yeah
you should set up another one to spray mist of water up the INTAKE would help massively
SITTIN AT THE LIGHTS, FAPPIN UP 2 BOTTLES AT ONCE
Water up the intake? Idiot
Carlos Gutierrez you clearly know nothing kid
lukethekanefan yeah if you wanna hydrolock your motor go for it.
Not water. Methanol. Aka windsheild wiper fluid. Give you any ideas?
I totally agree, spraying things under load is great!
I love this channel!
Awesome show again guys.....but why the 11pm upload time? Catering to your American audience....Not trying to be a troll just wondering...
8pm in perth :D
Mid day in UK, but seriously dude don't be a little bitch and think that upload times insinuate that they care more about one audience than another ^.^
They're catering for the WA fan base!
+Yeah,No chill bro....can't ask questions.
potaka79 can't ask stupid questions, like this one.
You are wright, on a VW we would use a extra windshield bottle and pomp, a couple of windshield nozzles and a dash mounted switch. Yours is the budget way. like it until I would have to pump it. Keep the vids and builds coming, You guys rock!!
I should have waited to write, You are wright about the rear window sprayer.
6:30 to 7:20 close your eyes and let your imagination do the work lol
lol right?
I'm dying 😂💔
i bawling
omg xD
LoL
My finger's stuck... Laaaaaarf!!!!😂😂😂
You guys are never better than when you're diying on the drive
This "mod" will only make a noticeable difference in desert climates, where humidity is very low. Evaporative coolers (a.k.a - swamp - coolers) are widely used in desert climates. You'll see a lot of them in Arizona. They work very well when humidity stays below 15% (usually during March through early June). They are worthless in high humidity climates. This should have been mentioned to save time and money for people who may try to duplicate this "invention".
When there's airflow things tend to evaporate a lot faster, I'm sure it'll make a difference as long as you're moving
Nearly at one million subs! I started watching the channel at 100,000 roughly! Awesome work lads.
Did you guys put the water pump in that spot on purpose to make me laugh @12:21
Why would they do it for you
+Rc Awesome because you touch yourself at night
moog "my fingers stuck in there"
i bet he's said that before lol
you guys crack me up much love from the uk
Get a pump of a window washer system then you could just have a button on the inside.
Should of watched the video before commenting.
petej222 yep...
Wire up a switch to the accelerator pedal. Full auto..
You could actually also buy an Mist-Spray set for the Garden. There is a High pressure Pump and some nice lines with it+it mists the water which is much better for our cooling.
OK, serious question time. Why is this mod not being done on Marty's mum's driveway?
I used to watch the old Roadkill, now I watch you two!
Well the chemistry of it doesn't really rely on the watering needing to evaporate.
Water has a higher specific heat capacity than the metal of the intercooler, so the water absorbs the energy (heat) from the intercooler, making it cooler. Evaporating is just an after effect when the water gets hot enough to evaporate.
So, using the getting out of the pool analogy, you get out of the pool it feels cooler because the water on your body has a higher specific heat capacity than the air around you and your body.
Hope this explanation is clear
Btw cool mod, someone should design a system where it automatically sprays water depending on the throttle and/or the temperature of the intercooler
u must be an engineering student?
Lol yea haha.... Im a year 12 student doing engineering, chemistry and physics :)
yeah and if he's saying it only gets up to 60-70 C its not really evap. either
so in saying that, for the people thinking about putting ice in there bottle to make the water colder. would that be going backwards as the water would need to get to a temperature that it can absorb the heat?
no a cooler water temp has a higher probibility of taking more heat away from the system
Best episode in ages. MORE DIY
Finger, fisting episode.
that looked painful
I used the windshied sprayer and just rerouted the hose to the intercooler, it needed a bit more pressure so i ditch the oem pump for a fuel pump i had laying around and it work like a charm for a evo x
13:47 Why? That dont look right
So glad you guys are back on the driveway doing simple mods!
Dammit I'm sure meant to be studying for exams....
Later....
"Spraying everything under load....." Good job holding your composure through that guys! hahahahaha
Luckily I live in england. All I have to do is expose my intercooler and let the rain do all the work
Welcome back to the driveway guys. Some good laughs in this one, love it!
6:19 - 8:19 - *Sex joke time*
close your eyes and listen to it.
Lmfao
Fellas, it would probably much easier to adapt a second windshield washer reservoir and pump with multiple nozzles. The reservoir could also be modified to have a float switch to inform when it is near empty. Additionally, in wintertime you could run with windshield wash fluid to keep it from freezing.
actually a front mount on WRX's and STi's is really stupid because a top mount inter cooler is right near the turbo and cools it down a lot better. in the front mount you have to have the air travel from the front of the bumper travel all the way up the cooler pipes which by the time the air reaches the turbo and it is a lot hotter on the top mount the cold air that get's sucked up from the hood scoop gets there a lot quicker which means it is going to be a lot colder too because it does not need to travel trough all the piping. so a front mount is not really clever doing even with a bigger inter cooler the air going to be hotter then the top mount anyway because it travels from the bottom all the way up trough the pipes which are near the engine and the engine is hot which means it is going to make the air hotter which is not so good as the top mount
You do relies an inter-cooler is to cool the air after its been though a hot turbo... Right?
I don't think you understand what intercoolers do. They're not used to cool the air entering the turbo. They're used to cool the air after it has exited the turbo.
U can feed the intake more air if its cold
The turbo for the 2015 wrx is in the front bottom of the engine
splewy I think that he means the intake air has to travel a longer distance to the intake and will get warmer going through the engine compartment again. I'm not sure about that reasoning though. Most top mounts arent so great because the turbo is directly under the top mount
When the classic back and forth about pushing things through holes started up again, then his finger actually was stuck... oh man, that got me.
What a bunch of clowns! LOL
Could offices your hose from your washer fluid dispenser down to the same spot them wouldn't have a crazy sprayer in your car. Just a thought. Great show like always
I was just going to mention using a washer bottle when you said so on the video. just make sure not to run it full of water if you're somewhere below freezing. they tend to crack when the water freezes.
These are pretty coo, came stock on my 07STI the tank is in the trunk the button to activate it sits right under steering to the left.
Marty's Miata is perfect and that's a really cool idea
The brilliant Aussie Lads to the rescue again ! Makes me proud to be an Aussie !
"She actually got quite a wide spray pan too !"
"Yeah she does"
I'm not sure if it was a joke, but I sure laughed my ass off hahahaha
~$4,000 turbo system.
$25 Watercooled IC spray.
I had a PC CPU watercooler pump die years ago. I grabbed an aquarium water pump and some vinyl hose, hooked it up and ran water through the radiator for a couple of days with a 5 gallon Homer's bucket reservoir until the new one showed up. XD You could probably rig up something similar with an electric switch on your dashboard instead of that silly goofy hand pump, lul.
Wait this was back in 2014? Time flies!
Had headlight wipers on my mad BMW, ripped the nozzles out, and put them in front of my intercooler, all i needed was some hose and hoseclamps :)
ive used the windsheild wash before just take the one from passenger side. and the bug cleaner is methanol based so you can even run it in ur intake to lower internal temp
Awesome ! Miss this kind of videos ..
Wow, that scene at the end does not look wrong at all!
My buddy did a similar thing with his project car, except he re-routed the windshield washer lines to his rear tires, and filed the reservoir with bleach. Makes for a good smoke show :p
My 2014 Evolution X GSR has a sprayer from factory. It's a two way button so you can put it on automatic spray or manualy spray yourself :)
They couldn't have made this funnier if they tried! Great stuff
For about twice as much you can use hard plastic can, 1/4" copper tubing and fittings, a 12 volt pump for pest control and .20 carburetor fuel nozzles
HA! This was awesome. You guys could do the high tech solution too, maybe. Chuck in some dyno tests as well.
My friends built these units using junkyard windshield washer pump, nozzles, some rubber tube and dollarstore wiring. Add a button to your dashboard switch panel for epic OEM looks.
do you always show your passengers that much love? haha that was great.
Very smart. I think I have a leak in one of my gromits for my VW 1.8T Wagons washer tank so I gotta mess with it anyway. Not a bad idea since at the moment I am still running the side mount intercooler. I wouldn't go for the pump option. I will continue to use that for cleaning my engine bay so I can avoid electrics.
not bad, quick and dirty cooler, i'd use an old washer fluid bottle/pump myself, but still, great vid as always guys, always look forward to your work
Nice DIY. Brings back memories of the earlier MCM videos. :)
you guys crack me up... always the perfect amount of humor mixed in with all the info needed to get the mod done :) cheers for all your work :)
Hey marty and moog!!! Coooooool stuffs mate! I'm so into MCM right now!!! Thanks for all the knowledges you've posted on the youtube. OH btw, I'm from Singapore!!! Just bought 3 of your stickers!! Can't wait to stick em on my ride!!! Cheers mate!!!!
The water its self is making it colder. It takes 4.17 Joules to heat one gram of water one degree. So that will absorb energy, then the latent heat of evaporation for water is, 0.334 Joules per gram. So actually its cooling the intercooler down much more as the water gets heated up compared to win its evaporating.
you could probably just put a vaccume line from the engine in the other end of the bottle and whenever you are making boost the spray will activate. Seems like a great idea if your taking the car to a track day and want to keep the radiator cool... you could also go as far as putting a large water tank in the car and having sprays mounted near the brake disks to cool them if your pushing the car hard at the track as well hahah
Nice upload guys. Classic driveway episode. Lol Mazda drivers go on & on. Truer words have never been spoken! :p
Some budget ideas to extend this. 1. Use a hobbs switch and relay in combination with the washer fluid pump to turn on when boost is on (no need to waste concentration and time pushing a switch). 2. Is there anyway to hook a up a way one valve that builds up pressure and then a pressure regulator to release the water at a certain pressure (don't know if it would release enough to spray a good pattern).
this idea can also be implemented on the radiator of normal aspirated cars to help cool especially in the tropics!
