    I am so glad to learn about “time” and not keeping up with it. And the “body doubling!” I used to always ask people to just sit and talk with me not do anything . I had no idea these were ADHD things. The more I learn the more I am convinced I have it. Maybe my two grown kids can start to understand I really have a problem with some of these things and it isn’t because I am lazy or I don’t care. I now need to figure out how to get a diagnose check. This constant loop you talk about is EXACTLY what I feel. Thank you thank you thank you

    3:18, My method: I’ll put a video on, which is a specific amount of time long, and requires no thought(no distraction). This is a shower trick, where I’ll be in there for an hour, without realizing, so I limit time showering, to 15 mins, via video/song. When it’s over, I have to get out.

      I use Brili kids. It's the same idea. They have flashcards *shower* *get dressed* *make breakfast* etc. Halfway the task you'll hear a notification sound, also when the task should be finished, and when it's finished, and when it's overdue.
      I can set Starttime or Endtime for one routine set. When I shower too long, the next tasks give you less time so will be out of the house on time.

    I can’t believe I wasn’t diagnosed as ADHD till I was 27. Like, holy crap man, all of the random weird things I did when I was younger made so much more sense after my life lenses changed.

  • @tricialee3291

    While I have no diagnosis (and know so little I wouldn't know how to get one), ADHD hacks really resonate with me. The body-doubling thing? I was only semi-aware that it was a thing. I often ask my partner to 'come help me' without any real idea of what it is I want him to do, other than exist in the same space. I nearly cried when this was revealed! I am convinced he is on the autism spectrum so it frustrates him that I ask him to 'come help' without telling him what with. He demands clarity! I am so happy I can tell him 'just exist with me!' and he can pick his own activity. If I don't have a plan, I have to pick one, and I panic and choose at random, and then he complains about the half-assed way I've gone about things... this will relieve so much friction for both of us!
    Thank you so much these videos. Inertia problem?! YUP. Time-'blindness' (I agree that it does need a new name, its not blindness its more like... time-insenitivity. Like, I can't feel time accurately, the way the skin on my knee that was damaged in a car accident doesn't feel touch properly. I know its being touched, but I'm not sure exactly where or if its soft or rough, just that 'something' starts then stops) I HAVE BEEN APOLOGISING FOR THIS ALL MY LIFE WHILE RESENTING EVERYONE WHO EVER POINTS IT OUT. To do lists? I have two - a long one (to remember the 500 things that always need doing) and then I triage out onto a small one for 'doable' - either time sensitive or quick to deal with, always a mixture. I delight in a completely crossed off list. Oh, and being stuck in a loop?! Yes! 😭 So yep, I do things the 'silly' way so I don't get stuck in a 'do this, then that, but need to do this to do that' priority loop. I just do what I have to so both get done. I count 'the long way' towards my step goal anyway. Its hard to get 10,000 steps in if you are stuck in a house all day... doing things the long way solves that problem!
    "Junebugging" - yup. So guilty its my whole personality. If there was a nature documentary about me I'd be compared to entire colony of ferrets on a sugar rush.
    EFT - that is going to be huge for me. Its true! I sometimes don't know why I'm stuck and can't 'make progress', because there's a 'big feeling' in my way. Most of the time I have to write the day off. No more lost days!
    And the final one? Yep, I celebrate every win, no matter how small. I find a cheer-squad helps, and its probably why I love animals so much - did you know dogs will hype for anything, they just like to be part of it? Cuddle-dance sessions, random treats, an extra cup of coffee, a colouring-in session, it doesn't matter what it is that brings me joy (heck, I'm a gardener, sometimes its just more work) but as a novelist, waiting til the end of a long-ass book to celebrate is dooming myself. Finishing a book is just the start of more work. Celebrating every 'ending' is like trying to come home and have a 'cured' party after the first session of therapy. Nope, long way to go buddy! Great first step though! A completed and published novel is so far into the whole process (and just the end of the easy part of being an indie author 😅) that if I wasn't celebrating all the little wins there'd be no win at all. I don't see it as coddling (as some do, it was a popular criticism in my tender years), it is a genuine part of my process. It has taken me so long to find ways to work with myself that I weep for my younger self... but only for a minute or two, then its time to make the best of what I have now!
    These videos are so helpful. They are reassuring, affirming and provide a wonderful launch-pad for me to explore options to get know myself and lead a productive and enriched life. Thank you! 💛❤💙💜

    I love showering first before I exercise! It seems inefficient in some ways because you do sweat, and drying hair just fir it to get semi-soaked again is unpleasant. Still, exercise while feeling oily and gross makes it feel so much worse for me, and I don’t feel like I’ve “started” to be ready for my day until I shower, meaning I don’t want to do anything until then. It also means the action-mode I get after exercise doesn’t get put out.

    EFT has been so incredibly helpful for me, I have huge issues with emotional disregulation and when I get triggered and have 10/10 reaction to 2/10 situation I just couldn't get myself to calm down and not spiral which could cost me literally HOURS of my time while I was just riding this rollercoaster of feeling like complete shit, not being able to do anything. Learning and trying EFT has been so helpful for that, it calms me down miraculously and additionally helps me process those emotions without getting stuck in activated state. Thank you for sharing that technique here, I feel like not enough people know about it (I'm a late diagnosed AuDHD with cPTSD btw)

      hey, serious inquiry here! I am blind with ADHD and I'm wondering if there is an audio version of the visual timer… Like something that create a sound that gets louder or softer with the task time? I think this would be so handy for me, but obviously if I'm blind, color changing isn't going to work… Time blindness (I'm blind, so I'll say I don't care if somebody uses time blind right. Is one of my biggest issues. Even if I check the time all the time, I'll hear the time and not even register it. I end up asking that for the time again for my cock two seconds later like "what time did it say? "

    Question: if we can’t say time blindness, then how can we cay color blindness? Not being facetious, genuine question. Wouldn’t it be the same insensitivity? They see something, it’s not a physical blind spot but rather they look at the thing and it’s grey or a different color - isn’t it just like how those of us with a lack of time perception know time exists, we can look at a clock, but we can’t perceive time passing?

    I have an ADHD diagnosis and I am being treated with methylphenidate. It fits the criteria a lot but being very Cartesian I have very little faith in this disorder because it is not quantifiable. I know that it is a dopamine defect and therefore treating by inhibiting dopamine reuptake helps relieve the symptoms. But from when is it a disorder and from when is it just a character ultimately? A variability in the population. Your criteria, a bit like horoscopes and other esoteric bullshit, how do we know that they target ADHD or autistic people and not lots of other people? In the end, getting a diagnosis gives you access to drugs. and because of that I am addicted to methylphenidate. I remain skeptical about this and I don't know to what extent I am just stupid and to what extent I really have a disorder. All I know is that taking drugs to succeed in my studies (I'm in medicine, what an idiot I am, but you can't choose your passions) makes me different, irritable, addicted and I still don't know if this fucking disorder is real or if it's not just a physiological variable.

    how can i control my ADHD without medicine and also share fix for adhd and constipation

    • @Julia.Mandelbrot
      @Julia.Mandelbrot Před 2 měsíci

      For constipation: eat an apple a day. Especially eat the middle part around the seeds. Don't eat the seeds, pick them out and eat the crunchy part where they were. Try Honeycrisp apples, they taste really great. Or any kind of apple u can get. U will feel much better.

    • @Julia.Mandelbrot
      @Julia.Mandelbrot Před 2 měsíci

      As for controlling ADHD without medicine, it's kind of like expecting someone with no legs to get around without a wheelchair. We cannot treat schizophrenia well, we don't have good medicine for manic-depressive, but
      ADHD is treatable with ADHD drugs and u can achieve a much better level of function through behavior mod and ADHD drugs. They are not all stimulants. Guanfacine can treat ADHD, also lowers blood pressure. Check out Dr. Russell Barclay's short 5-8 minute videos clipped from his longer lectures for more information on ADHD medicine. Also, exercise. Exercise helps u think better. Good luck!
