Judy Collins on the Turtle Doves stage at Shrewsbury Folk Festival 2022. Next festival: August 25-28 2023 | Day & weekend tickets on sale now: shrewsburyfolkfestival.co.uk/
Think Shirly Bassy 80 plus and Petula Clark celebrating her 90th birthday last Non on stage as the Flower Lady in Mary Poppins. Loved Judy ever since hearing her record of "Both Sides Now"
She has been doing this her whole life, she is an incredible performer and lovely person. My friend (who had also lost her son to suicide) and I were lucky to meet her backstage after a concert and she was so friendly and gracious.
She's so beautiful. Still. Sounding young, timing, pitch, vocal range and control, she's still got it. Not many can do this as we age. Astonishing. Lovely to see
Debra,I agree. I'm fascinated that she still attempts that higher range. She's very careful to go easy if she knows things are "iffy" and the result is lovely.
I cant believe judy is 84 and still a nightingale but she must have a lot of life experience to write a book about all the music artists she worked with love the joke about smoking and Keith Richards
Judy Collins in the late 1950's & 1960's was a fabulous folk ballad singer. I still listen to "Golden Apples of the Sun" from early 1960's. She knows so well how to frame a song so it sings itself and tells the story contained in it. I am 83 and a ballad singer and I know that anyone who uses their voice and continues to work with it can do the same. We don't all have her talent, but nobody needs stop singing because they think they are too old. Thank you Judy for being such an inspiration and may you continue to sing forever. I am a neighbor of another fabulous singer in her nineties-the blues and folk singer, Barbara Dane, who has recently put out an album with her Cuban son. Here's to tradition and continuity. Oh- and don't forget the wonderful Peggy Seeger also in her eighties and still singing. And then there is Martin Carthy and so on and on and on. Mazeltov!
Beautiful words, and you bring to mind the brilliant and near-prophetic Malvina Reynolds, who probably started singing from the 40s, and as a white-haired, wrinkled woman with a creaky but very well-tuned voice (and guitar, too) was in her prime in the 60s (!) as an icon of poetry in song, a master of social commentary. Almost all the other icons actually covered her! God bless the grass, Little Boxes....
and course Frank Hamilton in his eighties, singing, running two folk schools, inspiring others and there is a wonderful PBS special about him now...thanks for remembering Barbara, Peggy, their albums are great and out there and a revelation if you love folk music or music in general...some late bloomers have a slight variation of voices perhaps but there is so much more in the music which is, after all, storytelling...as does Judy who is all about love and has brought so much beauty and healing to this world...
I’m a big Judy Collins fan. As a teen I saw her at planting fields under the stars with my mother. This concert is forever in my memory as a special night. My mother passed away this year and that memory of us under the stars listening to an Angel sing I will have forever. Judy is one of the few that has kept her gift. When I’m sad I sing along and I’m back in time. Listening to this concert time doesn’t exist. The music does.
So do I. I play at least o one of her CDs almost daily. Along with Baez, Kate Wolf and a couple others. We were lucky to be born at the right time as far as music went. 😊
Judy was my great musical love of the late 60s and throughout the 70s. I saw her twice, I think, at the Royal Albert Hall. The last time I saw her live was in, of all places, Southport, Lancashire in 1980 or '81. It was the most magical evening. The highlight for me was her beautiful rendition of 'The Rose'.
I've been a Judy Collins fan all my life. Ever since her first album for Elektra Records: Maid of Constant Sorrow (rel: 1961) Seems like a lifetime ago and I ended up buying all Judy's albums. And to top it all off, Im a big fan of Leonard Cohen. And it was Judy Collins who put our Montreal's beloved poet and songwriter, Leonard Cohen, on the map. Watching this video Judy Collins is still beautiful and still has a voice of an angel. If Leonard Cohen (1934-2016) is looking down from Heaven....he would be so very proud. Thank You Judy for being you. WE LOVE YOU FOREVER 💗
Magnificent. Watching this, so many things go through my mind. Been listening to her songs and singing since I was a child. I remember when I was a teen and discovered that I could check out albums at the library and remember checking her albums out. So grateful to have seen her in concert in the 90's. It was wonderful and the earrings she wore sparkled from the stage.
I was 16 when I first heard my first Judy Collins record--her first album picked from a thrift shop in the Philippines. I was hooked! And i learned to play the guitar from listening to her records!!! Many many years later, I would write her (I got her office address from one of her albums), to express my admiration for her music--and she wrote me back, with a personally-autographed photo and a concert program! What a kind, generous soul! I will, forever be, a lifelong fan!
Judy Collins has always left me Spellbound since first encountering her in the '60s. I have been blessed to hear her in concert three times in three different decades. Maybe the most memorable was my front row seat at the 150th celebration of the Womens Rights Convention in Seneca Falls, NY. She touches each one present. How fortunate for us that she remains among us spinning out her Magick. Bless you on and on and on, Good Soul.
How I came to Judy Collins: When I was a teenager, at the age of 16, I became a Bowie fan with the song 'Lets Dance'. Back then as a 'boy' (which I never was! But I didn't know that yet...). The music also awakened my enthusiasm and love for England. This in turn also brought to light other preferences, such as bagpipes and last but not least 'Amazing Grace' of course... - which inevitably led to Judy (....)! At the age of 50 (!) my trans identity and my love for women came out. Since May 7th 2018 I can finally live as a woman and my family name also changed to 'Hyde' because of the 'hide' in Bowie's Lets Dance. My last wishes are to marry a woman and become British. That would be my zenith!! I gave myself the concert today (7th May 2024) for my birthday (58) and cried tears of joy!! Rarely, if ever, have I heard anything more beautiful than this! Judy lives in my heart forever!! Vivian Hyde 🙂
What an amazing arrangement of Both Sides Now! The piano is superb and her voice is as beautiful as ever! It's also lovely to see somebody looking so happy when they sing!🥰
It’s a wonderful feeling to see an older, gifted singer still with strength and vigor to bring us into her world of 1956. So many of our musicians, and many other artists of all kinds have passed so early with such severe health problems that it saddens the world with its loss. Thank you God for her.
Back when people respected honesty and clarity, we were listening to those protest songs by Judy and Joan, those who survived the pressure; Back then producers used to say, "If you can't make your point with one guitar and a microphone, you have no point to MAKE! Now, they say" anything goes for the money!" ANYTHING! Wait 'til the grid goes and people have to communicate more "personally" again? Us old hippies and the Amish will have it altogether! IF people could "slow their pressured lives down" and actually "listen" again, without having to be BLASTED by electronics? The lack of "strong drugs" might have helped too! She and Joan Baez are both still going strong! FORGET the guitar! Judy Collins could sing acapella and keep the crowd amazed! Besides, it's the CAPO she's using that causes the strings to loosen, requiring adjustments. The time that talent becomes how loudly one can scream into a microphone while disrobing for views, will soon dissipate, and quality will survive. Judy could have used her voice range to become a famous opera singer-but she kept to her standards. Love to hear her " Amazing Graze" over and over. "With Judy Collins & Joan Baez in Mind, "Why War?" "Time Goes By" and "Praying for Afghanistan"& "The Great Awakening. "With Judy Collins & Joan Baez in Mind-Why War? Goodness gracious do I adore this lady. My precious mom did, too. Among other vinyl records from the 60s and 70s, mom and I especially loved her 'Whales and Nightingales' album. She is one of our very precious few national treasures. Oh, how precious.
This is a lovely human filled with love and compassion. This fall after a recent magnificent concert she took time to speak at length with my wife and I. After many years we were able to thank her for helping us attain sobriety through her own journey. Her music will always live in our hearts. She will always be our own Colorado Gem.
when I was 3 yrs old I heard music from a vinyl lp in 1973 and Judy Collins was her name. an endless journey that has never left me with countless others and a wonderment of nothing that my heart could ever claim.
I absolutely love her music and her stamina for 85 years old person now! I just heard an interview with her on the radio and she sounds fantastic! I’m in my 60s and the first time I heard Judy Collins. I was in my early teens with her version. “Amazing Grace”!
been listening to Judy since 1963 She still has IT. I do not know any singer her age with so much class & talent. She was gorgeous, I fell in love with her. She appeared on Pete Seegar's TV show Rainbow Quest, done in fuzzy B&W. He introduced so many to us, Donovan Leach , Elizabeth Cotton , Heddy West, Clancy Bros. many more. SDhe is the ONLY Singer of that age, female or male who can still hit the high notes. She has class and beauty..
The inimitable Sweet *Suite* - Judy-Blue Eyes. One of the sweetest voices of my younger days - and one of the idols of my life - I'm continuously renewed by the women who shaped my own singing. Judy, Joan, Joni, Carly, and Carole. Their music is the background of my life, still. Love you Judy.
still absolutely beautiful and perfect sounding. I liked her hair more long though. It was so white and gorgeous. I want to be a cool white haired old lady. On my way as I am old now, lol. She is such an amazing and overlooked member of the Flower Children, and such an important talent
Ah Judy we are the same age and you are still gorgeous! Your voice is a huge part of my life spent listening to your ballads for the last 50 years! Thank you love!
Blown away. Judy Collins of all people back in Britain. I left the UK decades ago, but would have gone home in a blink to see Judy Collins. Her voice is still pure magic, what a treat for everyone to hear one of the greatest performers of all time, with the purest voice! What an incredible treat to have her in the the UK for this concert. I'm in heaven listening to her.. she's taking me to 1000 memories, dreams, travels, places and people. Mountains, hills streams, and my own 12 string guitar days.

My mother sang and played guitar in our home mimicking judy, peter paul and mary and all the greats...we were blessed and blessed by Judy the original..Thank you sweet judy blue eyes.
What a pleasure to see and hear Judy on top form. Her voice is so warm and reaches inside you somehow. Her song “my father” still sends chills down my back to this day. Great song indeed but the voice conveys such a sense of intimate honesty and sense of place.
I cried when she sang Born to the Breed. How is she strong enough to sing that song with a dry eye. Amazing performer, amazing woman. Thank you for all the years of your beautiful voice soothing my bad times and celebrating my good times.
She herself says about being able to carry on after her sons suicide, that her kriya yoga practice helped her through. (She is a disciple of Yogananda.)
As a 76 year old and still performing weekly gigs the top notes are a bit of a struggle for me now. She just nails it, however. Amazing. I love the old recording of her singing 'Turn turn turn' with Pete Seeger.
I heard you last night in Ft Lauderdale and was moved to tears. Now 86 and still doing live one woman shows for an hour and a half, no breaks, nailing every high nite, as gracious as ever. I had the honor and privilege to sing back up at many of your Christmas shows at the Birchmere in Alexandria VA with the Georgetown Chorale. Thank you for being such a musical treasure.
Timeless, beautiful and expressive voice. Saw her in concert in Bermuda in the mid 90s and she still sounds fabulous. The interpretation is always moving, it’s never just a melody. One of my top female singers alongside Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon…but Judith Durham will always be my #1!
Grew up listening to the three J's in our house full of folk music. My dad taught me how to play guitar when I was in 9th grade; we used to play and sing together. How I miss those days...and of course my daddy...😢
My oh my. I’ve been listening and following Judy since the later 60’s. So many albums. Her voice is so beautiful. She is that fine wine, all the better with age. Thank you.
I am almost as old as Judy so I have been listening to her voice since the beginning of her career. She sounds Beautiful, she has sounded beautiful for all the time I have listened to her. I will keep listening as long as she can sing and I can hear.
The last vestiges of a great American culture that the world loves yet so much, besides the blues, jazz, and black music. Being 66 years old and lived in the US at the beginning of the 2000s, I could see how immense the losses were.
Judy still has that beautiful distinctive voice, even at the age of 83. She plays piano as well as 60 years ago and I was hoping to enjoy more of her playing. Her own compositions such as "My Father" & "Secret Gardens" would have also been wonderful to hear. I look forward to hearing more of Spellbound.
I saw her once many years ago. She sang “Suzanne”. She wore a pure white gown, and seemed an earth-mother goddess. She touched my imperfect body with her mind (channeling a phrase in “Suzanne”). A true legend and beautiful soul.
Saw her when I was 14 at Garden State Arts Center in Holmdel NJ, on a double bill with Arlo Guthrie. We had lawn seats. Many years later in the 90s I saw her again at University of Delaware. My daughter was a student there we had front row center seats. An amazing talent that is timeless.
Rekindled all memories growing up listening to folk songs, trying to be free with wars raging in Vietnam , Europe and the Middle East …. Civil rights , jfk assassination , Nixon’s watergate .. yet with all these somehow, we did survive . I’m 72 now and still listening to my generations music .
Same old Judy Blue Eyes. Time has not dimmed her spirit since I first heard her 55 years ago. So sorry I missed this. So many great singers I would never have heard if it hadn't been for her. A great interpreter.
Rediscovered Judy this year when l retired and had time to sit and listen to music more. Recently bought Spellbound, a great album, and tune into You Tube for other performances Judy has done. She sounds so well in her mature years. Going to see her in Leeds later this year
Im in my 60’s and I’ve been singing since I was 3 years old, this lady inspired me when I was 16 to become a singer, and I’m still singing!! She still sings so well and it’s wonderful to see and hear!!!
I met Judy backstage at Everett Performing Arts, Washington in 1996... I was the House Manager, in charge of many volunteers..and was visiting to see if all was as she had requested for her comfort. Although she was having her dinner with her manager, friend, she was very gracious, calm, and happy to see a Big Fan, who cried a bit at meeting one of her idolized artists. Her songs had actually helped me through difficult times as a young woman. Never doubt that music can heal, can lift, and influence one's path in life...if it is music with virtues in the words, encouragement, and Right Words at the Right Time... Additionally, her voice is mostly intact..which only comes with much practice, stretching of those vocal muscles, a good ear, diligence and deep Faith...
There is no reason that an older singer's voice can't continue to sound lovely, barring an illness or injury. Of course age will sometimes make some changes but not always. She sounds as lovely as ever.
Age is a thief. Judy’s voice still has the beauty and warmth it always has had, but the power has been stolen away. Sadly, it’s all about the support from the diaphragm and age affects the muscles. Not much you can do about it. But her story telling and songwriting ability has developed and matured to such an extent that the occasional quiver or rasp in her voice, somehow enhances her performance. I had the great pleasure of seeing her at the Port Fairy Folk Festival, my hometown in Victoria, Australia. It was about 10 years ago, but the memory is still very vivid of her engaging performance.
I can't remember the last time I saw an 82yo woman put on a solo show like this. She's absolutely brilliant and the definition of living legend!
Think Shirly Bassy 80 plus and Petula Clark celebrating her 90th birthday last Non on stage as the Flower Lady in Mary Poppins. Loved Judy ever since hearing her record of "Both Sides Now"
I agree! She is 83 years old (will turn 84 years old May 1, 2023)!
She is so amazing, her voice is so wonderful. ❤️
She has been doing this her whole life, she is an incredible performer and lovely person. My friend (who had also lost her son to suicide) and I were lucky to meet her backstage after a concert and she was so friendly and gracious.

I adore this amazing woman! Seeing her in concert over the years has been a true highlight. I hope she comes back to Portland ORegon!
My earliest music memories....what a time to grow up....
What a blessing Judy Collins is in our lives!

Hello JoAnne
How are you doing todaya?
When you say 'planting fields', are you referring to Planting Fields on Long Island?
There aren’t enough superlatives to describe the feeling this beautiful soul evokes. Thank you.
Her breathtaking voice now has new colors of wisdom. And her generous spirit radiates love even more deeply.
Judy is one of the best singers in this century. I listen to her everyday.
And the previous century.

Her rendition of Turn Turn Turn make me cry..even up to now..2023 April 30..we are blessed to have you Ms Judy Collins..God bless you.m
too bad you saw her that day. If you had seen her the next day, May 1st you could have sung happy birthday to her

when I was 3 yrs old I heard music from a vinyl lp in 1973 and Judy Collins was her name. an endless journey that has never left me with countless others and a wonderment of nothing that my heart could ever claim.
The voice of an angel!
Not impressed. I'm
kidding. Her voice is still solid and beautiful. Amazing!
She looks really great with short hair
Grew up with her music. Voice is unparalleled. A treasure.
When i hear your voice judy its so soothing it make me cry with hapiness melts and sooths my soul. Damn!
The QUEEN !!

❤❤❤
Wow - she's one of my favorite singers and she's still got something special. (And she's rocking shorter hair too!)
singing like a youngster all the while strumming a big acoustic 12 string at 82 years darn impressive !
Still sounding and looking amazing. She's an incredible talent.
Judy Collins, my favorite singer with a beautiful crystal clear voice . I love all her songs very much. She is so wonderful and perfect .
still absolutely beautiful and perfect sounding. I liked her hair more long though. It was so white and gorgeous. I want to be a cool white haired old lady. On my way as I am old now, lol. She is such an amazing and overlooked member of the Flower Children, and such an important talent
She’s magnificent. I saw her live just before lockdown and it was one of the best concerts of my life.
Hello Trisha
How are you doing today?
There was a time, when Man knew he was right,
Peace was on his left, and war was on his right.
Man was right, so in the name of God,
All mankind lost the land that he had trod.
.CH:
I would give you, anything, if to me you could explain,
Why, at one time, when we had everything....
There was a time, when Man, he could foresee,
Said "War has always been, so war will always be...
"Aren't we proud? That was our philosophy...
God was dead... but not to me.
There was a time, when man knew he was right;
Peace was on his left, and War was on his right.
Man was right, So in the name of GOD...
Will All mankind lose the land that he had trod.?
God was dead, and we were living.
No God was living, and we were dying.
There's no right or wrong, but we keep trying...
There's no right or wrong...
We're all gone.
I would give you anything, if to me, You could explain.

was für eine wunderbare reine Stimme in diesem Alter!! DANKE!
Not only can I no longer walk but I also can’t sing. I am 15 years her junior. Way to Go Judy!
Hello Karen
How are you doing today?
@@thomsonsmith95 hanging in. And you?
I’m so proud of seeing her being her true self, the true gem she is. An amazing singer, with angelic voice.
What a class act!
Judy Collins is a treasure of beautiful music. Much love ❤️ to her.
I absolutely love her music and her personality!
Simply Beautiful!!!!!❤
Saw her in Carnegie hall around Christmas and sang way over time allotted. It was great!
So sweet to see Judy again. And doing so well.
Still got that angelic voice
As a 76 year old and still performing weekly gigs the top notes are a bit of a struggle for me now. She just nails it, however. Amazing. I love the old recording of her singing 'Turn turn turn' with Pete Seeger.
I just saw a clip of “Both sides now”from this concert on TikTok and she still has it in her. Grew up listening to that song.
Brava Judy!!!
She still has it!
Amazing!
Hate to embarrass you but she will only be 85 on May 1, 2024
Timeless, beautiful and expressive voice.
Thank you.
wow!!! her voice is just the same as it ever was .!!!
Her voice is amazing and still so inspirational ❤
Hello Leslie
How are you doing today?
Beautiful, beautiful. Thanks for your voice!!!
Beautiful gifted lady. I remember her from my teen years. I'm 77 now and still love her music. She's as wonderful as ever.
Now?
Wow! She still sounds great! Wonderful performance!
I’ve never grown tired of Judy Collins’s music and she’s beautiful
Saw Judy C. in Santa Cruz Ca. days ago. Judy was awesome great voice. Thanks Judy for coming to the S.C. area! :)
Over 80 and her voice is still as great as ever!
One of my most favorite moments ever was to hear her sing just last year at Estes Park in Colorado. Love ya Judy!
Judy, Such a brilliant creative spirit, inspiring and beautiful. What a voice...and presence! Always a shining light in my life!
Thank you so much for posting this. Outstanding! A voice from God.
Wonderful performance from a beautiful woman who gave me the music of my youth.
Thank you Judy.
My dad loved this woman's voice and passed it on to me ...
So so beautiful ... 🎶😘
Still has that beautiful, translucent voice. Glad she ditched the big wig and went natural and seems comfortable in herself.
Beautiful ❤️💓 💞 I love you!
LOVE THE HAIR!
Me too!
Same old Judy Blue Eyes. Time has not dimmed her spirit since I first heard her 55 years ago. So sorry I missed this. So many great singers I would never have heard if it hadn't been for her. A great interpreter.
Her new album has been nominated for a Grammy! We saw her in Florida this week, this video is exactly the same show as we saw.
Magnificent still, what a total pro.
🎉❤❤❤ Wow she has got a amayzing voice for her age, she is example that singer can save a voice during all life
I met Judy backstage at Everett Performing Arts, Washington in 1996...
MAGNIFICENT JUDY IS A LEGEND
WOW !!!! She still has it.
Omg. She sounds fabulous as good as ever beautiful so beautiful voice beautiful song.
Memories, I grew up with Judy's songs. Wonderful that she still can sing for a concert.❤
Absolutely beautiful❤❤❤❤
Just amazing, truly!
I often listen to her beautiful rendition of Pirate Jenny. She was really something.
