  • Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips had the pleasure of sitting down with Judy Collins at the NAMM Show in Anaheim in April to discuss her amazing career and the upcoming Australian tour. The interview was used for NAMM's Oral History Project as well as Australian Musician magazine
In her first Australian concerts in over a decade, in March 2024 Judy Collins will perform her best known songs in spellbindingly intimate concert appearances.
As well as Judy’s stunning rendition of Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now”, the concerts will feature renowned Collins songs such as “Diamonds And Rust”, “Michael From The Mountain”, “Angels In The Snow”, and “Amazing Grace”, as well as songs by Leonard Cohen, Jimmy Webb, and Bob Dylan, and her Grammy winning rendition of “Send In The Clowns”.
Judy Collins has inspired audiences across the globe with her sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism. A Greenwich Village contemporary of Joan Baez, Cohen, and Bob Dylan, and the inspiration for CS&N’s “Judy Blue Eyes”, the Grammy Award winning Collins is esteemed for her imaginative interpretations of traditional and contemporary folk standards, and her own poetically poignant original compositions.
Having scored Grammys for “Both Sides Now”, and “Send In The Clowns”, Collins was again nominated for a Grammy in 2017. In the same year, her rendition of "Amazing Grace" was selected by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or artistically significant". In 2019, at 80 years of age, Judy’s catalogue of Gold and Platinum albums reached its zenith with the release of “Winter Stories” - her first USA #1 album.
On stage, Judy’s luminescent presence shines brightly as new generations bask in the glow of her iconic body of work, and heed inspiration from her spiritual discipline to thrive in the music industry for over half a century.

Excellent interview, one of Judy’s best. Amazing the territory covered in 30 minutes.
This is facilitated by an excellent, prepared, professional interviewer.

Judy is one of the voices of my youth. I have held on to some of her Albums on Vinyl, just because they hold such fond memories. “Judith”, “So Early in the Spring” and “Whales and Nightingales” are among my favourites. I’m going to read her books. An amazing woman, and what a Life, not to mention that she is STILL doing her thing. WOW. Thank you, Judy, for MANY hours made more wonderful with you as the soundtrack. ❤️🇨🇦

"When I Go" it's by far one of the most beautiful songs i've ever heard and one of my life songs. The duet with Willie Nelson is just perfect. I was hoping to hear it at Barbican but it wasn't part of the set list. A new book! What a good gift for 2024! ♥

Judy is magnificent! When many people her age are nursing home material, she is out performing and still going strong. I hope to still keep buying her recordings for many years to come. She is the complete musical artist! 😊👌
