This is a demonstration of the Schlieren effect. This setup allows you to see changes in air density. The point light source is aimed at the concave mirror. The concave mirror reflects to a focal point. There you use a sharp edged object to partially block the light which helps create a shadow effect that allows you to see air movement.

The differences in air pressure created by how or cold air is made clearly visible by this Schlieren effect. That is why you can see the hot or cold air from the hand, an icicle, etc.
Want to know something else crazy? It was invented by a German in the 1800s to study super sonic air flow.

what exactly does the razor blade do to make the process possible?
It acts as a sort of diffraction grating, creating shadows from light coming at different angles; the shadows are what you're seeing.

You need a concave mirror and a light source next to the camera aimed at the mirror. Find the focal point of the mirror and put the razor there and the camera just behind it. Then focus the camera.
The light source can be a regular bulb? The distance between the razor and the camere is set to a specific value or it doesnt matter? Do I need any special camera or any specific camera parameter? Thank you :O

it's all just smoke and mirrors.
International Space Station has to do with the spectrum of light you can see through a camera. Its just like the lazer videos. You cant see the lazer beam with your eyes but you can see it through your camera.
Although this is science it's also a beautiful piece of art and I I'm perfectly fine watching another video to explain it because wow this was good

Not quite gravity (it's the same for the cold and hot air). It's more about density.
What´s the technical explanation?
As light passes through any object into another object it bends slightly (refraction) based on the materials density. If you heat or cool something you change its density. so if you have a pocket of heated air, then the photon moving in a straight line from the light source to the mirror is bent slightly by the density change.
The set up with the lightsource, mirror and razor (to act as a Foucault filter) into a camera is only to magnify the Schlieren effect making it more pronounced.

Your vid is entertaining, no doubt, but I feel it would have more value if you would (if you can) explain the science behind the phenomenon, and give specifics about the focus of the camera on the blade, or mirror, etc. etc. This was all unclear. When the large round disc (I assume it to be the mirror) is viewed normally, it appears white. When the filming is happening, it appears blue. Where is the camera actually pointing? What exactly does the razor blade do? Are you filming a reflection from its surface?...and quite frankly, I think the pink-pong ball (or whatever type it was) gave away some of your tricks. I could imagine it going up and down, but not coming down diagonally, as it did at 1:39 to 1:42. Much more 'artistic' to you, perhaps,to have no narration, but public education is different than public entertainment, and I admit to being biased toward the former. Thanks.
Your comment is well thought out, but you've got it wrong about the ping pong balls thing. Objects floating in an air current can move up and down parallel to the air current, even if gravity should be making it go straight down. I don't entirely understand the physics of it, but it has something to do with the air current on its underside suspending it.
Charles, as I stated in my initial comment, I can certainly understand the ball going up and down parallel to the air-stream, but not diagonally. And I wish the razor blade and focal point of the camera had been explained.
