    Great review, love my 2015 C7 Z51! You are right about the actual size, I was initially concerned due to a fair amount of online commentary I had read about parking in a standard sized garage, totally false, no issues what so ever, easy to back down a fairly steep incline with the dimensions posing no challenges at all. Some interesting comments about registration engine displacement penalties, in my neck of the woods its a 7 month driving season so that effectively makes that less of an issue, secondly, governments need to understand what AFM is, the car does function as a 3.1L for much of the time when cruising/commuting, something needs to be done to clear that up with their typical indiscriminate tax grabbing attitude. In fact GM needs to bring that up, they produce a number of vehicles with this fuel saving strategy which is in fact very effective.

    I've watched both your Cayman review and the Corvette review.
    Which car do you prefer and why?
    I've driven both and the Corvette has that amazing power and acceleration while the Cayman has such great handling and feel.
    I was only able to drive the Corvette around the block and could not experience how well it handles.
    How do the two compare in terms of control and handling?

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 9 lety +5

      Doug Maverick Hey Doug, interesting question! The Corvette is surely the better deal money-wise. Also, it arouses way more attention on the street. It is the more extroverted car. The Cayman has the better sports handling, the better balance. The Corvette is more aggressive and likes to slide around. In wet conditions, the Corvette feels not so well controllable, whereas the Cayman can also be driven quite calm. For great laptimes and the ultimative perfect sport feel, I would pick the Cayman. For better price and more attention I would go for the Corvette. And very personally, there is one thing which would make me go for the Corvette: For my body, the Corvette was way more comfortable seating wise, even if the suspension of the Porsche was better.

    • @kemcd
      @kemcd Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you autogefuhl... your comment naield it. I too am considering between cayman and corvette. The suspension on the cayman is superior but the overall comfort and seating feel in the corvette cant be beat. They really did an incredible job. Both have their strengths and shortcomings, but the Corvette manages to look amazing even next to a ferrari

  • @RootsandTendrils
    @RootsandTendrils Před 9 lety +1

    The 2015 Corvette Stingray Z51 is a truly remarkable and satisfying car at an intelligent price. Equipped standard with an electronic limited slip differential and well optioned with dual mode performance exhaust, which boosts hp to 460 and torque to 465 ft/lbs; and the magnetic rheological suspension, the car combines a great balance of attributes, both comfort and near optimal performance. The all aluminum chassis structure of the car employs significant innovations resulting in light weight and outstanding stiffness. The LT1 V8 is a high compression, lightweight, and compact combination of direct injection, and vvt, which results in an immediate delivery of torque that is maintained smoothly through a very broad band of rpm. This engine, relatively inexpensive to produce, smartly delivers all that is required for a high performance street car. The execution of styling and quality, both interior and exterior, does indeed demonstrate how well this car was conceived and the high standards that were set by its veteran design team. Lastly the GM designed, new for 2015, 8-speed automatic, offers spectacular performance, ease of operation, efficiency and comfort, that makes the Corvette more versatile and pleasurable to own. Choosing this car is a very sound and intelligent exercise of discernment and good judgement. And yes up close the car is absolutely exciting to the senses.

    Thanks for the great review! In America, our price point for the C7 Corvette is about $10,000 cheaper than the 981 Cayman S. If you were to compare these two cars (and they are very different cars, mind you), how would you compare the two, in terms of practicality, fun factor, feel, experience, etc.?

    Great review! Finally a Corvette with a good "european" handling: I really like it. It's a pity that is too expensive to tax due the engine diplacement. Otherwise would be a price-to-performance bargain, even more than a GTR.

  • @louisluigi
    @louisluigi Před 9 lety +15

    You envy the Americans for the possibility to buy the Corvette for only 50.000 dollars. Well I envy the Gerrmans for the possibility to buy a Corvette for only 70.000 euro. This car cost here in the Netherlands 125.000 euro!! The government steals an extra 55.000 euro on CO2 tax and you know what so silly about the EU fuel consumption method?
    A BMW 750i, also a V8 with 420 HP but with a smaller engine displacement an 2 turbos is "only" 15.000 euro CO2 tax.
    Comparing these 2 cars in real life fuel consumption and you will see, the Corvette is 15% more fuel efficient than a BMW 750. I know the BMW is heavier, but it doesn't justify a tax difference of 35.000 euro.
    I truly hate all the engine downsizing BS, cause the smaller engines get turbos to compensate power and in real life these engines use at least as much fuel as natural aspirated engines, but cost way more on maintenance/repair costs than a natural aspirated engine.
    Conclusion natural aspirated engines, sound better, better equal power delivery, way more durable and cheaper to maintain and therefore better for the environment

    • @autogefuehl
      @autogefuehl  Před 9 lety

      louisluigi Wow, thats really a lot for that car!! Indeed, the small turbo engines produce very toxic stuff which is not good for human and environment.

    Nice Review ! I'm not a fan of the Corvette so much , but i do appreciate it as a icon vehicle especially in the US with good history.The Targa Roof is not my cup of tea , i would rather go with true convertible retracting roof.
    Ever since the Nissan GT-R cam out with power shift function off the line ,everyone is trying to include it.
    I'm not sure if you stated it or not but i'm assuming it has rev. matching on downshifts.

    Don't be fooled into thinking that this car is the buy of the century. Yes, the steering feel is incredible, and not just for a Corvette. You can truely feel the road through your hands. It is also absolutely gorgeous, interior and exterior with good materials and a high build quality. It is also very fast also with a fantastic sound track coming from the quad exhaust outlets. Plenty of torque available throughout the rev range to boot. Where this car falls down massively is in the reliability section. It will break down... ALOT. This has to be one of the most unreliable cars that I've ever encountered, the engine management systems like to break, as does the infotainment system. This car spends more time in the shops than it does on the road, this is, of course my experience with the 2014 model year, however, I have heard similar stories from owners. From what I've seen with previous generations of Corvettes, Chevrolet will most likely have these issues sorted by 2017. So in short, if you are planning on buying a Corvette, hold off for another year or so.

      +Autogefühl Check out the reviews of some American car magazines, Car & Driver had an ignition system malfunction at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca after just three laps around the track. Similarly, another magazine, I believe Motor Trend, had a long term review of the car and after 10,000 miles it had four or five major break downs with many smaller infotainment system bugs.

    Corvettes are obviously more common here in the US and don't turn all that many heads, but in certain situations they still provoke the same polar reactions from bystanders here as well, mostly women. They have a perception of a stereotypical Corvette owner being a middle-aged man in his mid-life crises - shirt halfway unbuttoned to show off his hairy chest and big gold chains. In a word, unrefined. But that perception came from owners of much earlier Corvettes. This latest variant is definitely far different in its execution and appears to have far higher engineering and build quality to go along with all the brute force.

    Corvette on the front, a sub-par wannabe Camaro on the back.. Chevrolet has royally screwed-up the C7.. I have NO IDEA what the designers at Chevrolet were thinking to destroy one of the classic trademarks of the car, and less what the executives were smoking to get it approved. Either the C8 gets back a proper Corvette rear with round lights (ot at least an exclusive look no matter the lights' shape) or this melting pot between Corvettes and Camaros as far as Im concerned is the end of the road for this car. Long live the C1 thru C6!

    I will probably take some heat from saying this, but while the Corvette may be a novelty for you over there, they are considered garbage here in the America. Yes, the latest one is a lot better but that's only because the future of the car is on the line. They only sold 13 000 in 2012, and Tadge Juechter, the Chief Engineer of the Corvette said “If we don’t get sales back up, there won’t be a next one”

      The Corvette may be considered "garbage" by you, but to say that it's deemed so by the majority here in the USA is a patently absurd, and absolutely false statement. The C7 'Vette has gotten superb reviews and very much praise both here and abroad.Just what are you basing your opinion on? Your own prejudice? Porsche sold approximately 8200 911's here in the USA in 2012. Was that also a failure? And there were actually more than 14,000 Corvettes sold here in 2012, not 13,000. I just checked. For Chevy to have sold over 14,000 C6 Corvettes in 2012 is quite good. It's not a mass-market car. But, guess what? Chevy sold 31,000 C7 'Vettes here in 2014. That's 31,000! Not bad for your piece of garbage, huh. You really have no idea what you're talking about.
      By the way, show me where I can find your Tad Juechter quote. I'd like to see when and in what context he said it. I think you're intentionally misleading people.

      Considered garbage in America? What the hell are you talking about? Clearly you have never owned one or driven one. I have owned 3 with a current 2009 Z06. There is nothing in the world that can touch it's performance for the money. I've never had an issue with any of my Corvettes.
