      I agree with what you're saying about constructive criticism however a lot of these people were just being mean they could have given the guy real advice instead of just bashing him think about if you wrote your first song and we're already shy about releasing it or uncertain of yourself and then all these people started bashing you this is the type of thing that drives people to commit suicide I know it sounds like a stupid thing to do that over but it has happened in young people when their community turns on them especially for something so dumb

      I have seen people do that kind of thing and then show me something awesome and I've been excited to give credit where it's due. I think, like another comment said, it's about the amount of hype he built for such a low quality song. The song itself isn't even the worst in the world. It's not great and I don't enjoy it but some of the melodic intervals are at least interesting and I could see someone liking it. But he started off being kind of annoying with that question and then didn't shock people with the high quality of it lol

    I feel that starting that tiktok with “is this the next emo anthem” was the biggest mistake. Any bold statements like that and the like of “if you like MCR you’ll love my band” are destined to not work with the emo crowd. The alternative scene was born out of not liking what everyone else likes, not being who everyone else is, by not fitting in so making it obvious that we don’t fit in. Tell us you made a song you think we might enjoy, that represents your view on the scene. That’ll get way more positive attention.

    • @EricaDLucas
      @EricaDLucas Před 2 měsíci +7

      @@DrawDrawDrawAnime1234 You don't have to justify your likes or interests to other people. If your friend thinks a song/artist you like sucks, that's okay and you shouldn't try to convince them that they're wrong; they have a right to have an opinion. Now if they're actively trying to put you down by making fun of your tastes or trying to seem superior, the best thing you can do is not give a f. Do YOU like it? Then what matters what your friend thinks? You can live your life trying to justify all your tastes to bitter people who find pleasure in hating on things, or you can just ignore them and keep on gleefully consuming your interests, no matter how "objectively bad" or "good" they are

    • @Bean-hz8jo
      @Bean-hz8jo Před 13 dny +2

      Yeah, especially with the alt crowd, theres often some innate importance placed on the fact that the music doesnt "exist to be popular". That's not a good thing, thats not a bad thing, it just is. Sometimes you end up with a bunch of people "gatekeeping" their favorite bands because they don't want them to get mainstream, but I think at it's core it's about wanting music to be kind of its own and authentic. Marketing a song to that community by going "this is gonna be a HIT!" is not exactly thought out..

      Tbh I'm annoy about him claiming it's "the next emo anthem" like dude doesn't even have a fan base yet and he seems to make such a huge claim. Ofc people are gonna have insanely high expectations and if his brave enough to make such bold claim he should be brave enough to take the hate/criticism it gets. Especially compare to how good actual "emo anthem" are like mother mother, choke, set it off, etc compare to his songs. He wants to be unique but it sounds like a mess, the point of a good song isn't to be unique it's to sound good. If it's main goal is just to stand out then it's not gonna be good. Jack stauber one example of a unique song that sounds good

    I listen to pop punk frequently, and IMO this song is OK at best, but I think the visuals are where it really falls apart. If you've ever seen a video by Finn McKenty (The Punkrock MBA) you know how important he thinks the projected personality, or "star power", of the frontman of a band is, and I tend to agree with that. This is a one-man-band (as far as I can tell), which makes his presentation even more important when he decides to include himself in the video(s). To me he comes off as disingenuous in the newer videos (including the music video), like he's doing a persona, and the performance feels both forced and understated somehow, like he doesn't quite dare to go all in, because it's not really who he is. (The half assed dance in the "happy pop-break" at 6:08 was especially painful to watch). In the older videos he comes off as more genuine, and even though the music isn't necessarily better, it's at least more pleasant to watch. I get making a flashy video and trying to stand out, but people can smell bullshit from a mile away. The lyrics also seem to be impersonaI, and to me they come off more like he's used a "pop punk lyric formula" rather than write something meaningful himself. I'm not saying this to be mean to the guy, it's just my take on the matter. I do hope he keeps at it and tries to improve, and that he can learn to project himself more genuinely in the process.

The internal conflict of not caring about fitting in with the mainstream and desperately wanting the approval of the pop punk/emo community is a huge part of the culture and if you're not immediately beloved and accepted within the community, it's easy to fall into this sort of cringe defensiveness. Good video, hopefully this dude can learn from it.
    (I think the most important thing to learn from these days is the point about giving people a reaction. Pop punk as a genre is very satirical and campy. Also trying to argue objective goodness and badness in punk is kind of against the essence of what punk is. The culture of just ruthlessly knocking on people or cringing at them is so exhaustingly negative and it's also like... discouraging anyone from trying things or sharing them if they can't be instantly popular or monetized or perfect beyond reproach. Not sure what you were listening to but not EVERY pop punk artist was, is, or should be the same. Also I think people don't realize there is some descrepancy between early emo and pop punk artists. Strictly emo or post-hardcore tended to be darker, grungier, or more depressing while the pop punk and scene era leaned heavier on the angsty rebellious teen anthems. We're talking about an umbrella genre that spans over 25 years at this point, it's super reductive to say all of it wasn't incredible music just cause of Blink 182 or We the Kings or some shit.

  • @KittiJewl
    @KittiJewl Před 2 lety +1433

    i think the biggest problem with the guy's music is he seems like a rhythm guitarist, the type that learned music through singing over acoustic guitar. which is great! but you cant always just take something that sounds good with acoustic guitar and vocals, slam it out on electric, and then sing louder and hope it works. ill bet you ANYTHING he composes on acoustic guitar, relying on his more practiced skills. i do that too, but it's not exactly easy to write electric guitar pieces with an acoustic instrument.
    that acoustic ballad version of the song is great because the guitar and vocals work together to create a flow. in the electric one, hes using power chords, and longer notes, and he doesnt change the vocals. it just creates an awkward mismatch and it makes it sound like he's singing off tempo.
    just one notch better at making music, like danny said, and this guy would have it in the bag! he's just missing the mark a little bit on the genre and on a consistent genre, instrument to instrument.

    As someone who was a teen emo back in the day when emo first started, I could 100% see people listening to this song back then. Doesn't mean it's particularly good, but there were a lot of emo CZcams singers putting out this sort of music at the time. His biggest mistake was being arrogant and claiming he'd written an anthem.

      Yeah, if P!ATD wrote it, I don't think anybody would question it

      This is later, but honestly I could totally see one of the late 2000s-early 2010s pop-punk darlings writing this and everyone just eating it up. Like it gives me All Time Low/Story So Far/Punk Goes Pop vibes. Also doesn't mean it's good, but middle school me would be 100% guilty of blasting it.

      Honestly in middle school this would’ve been my emotional support song 😭

      I think it depends on where you live. In South Africa they seem to accept you immediately.
