Elden ring will truly be this centuries equivalent to the Tolkien legendarium.
Both sisters are really huge simps who can throw everything away for the sake of love. Rennala gets heartbroken to the point completely ignoring outside world while caressing the Amber Egg gifted by Radagon, while Rellana abandons her homeland to go on an endless conquest with Messmer.
To be honest, that’s a pretty accurate summary of what love does to people everyday.
You could say that Rellana got messmerized by Messmer

Everyone saying there tired of the incest, the characters don’t know that they’re technically blood relatives it’s all been kept a secret. Miquella is from my viewpoint the only Demi god who knew that radagon was marika and therefore that Radahn is is brother
One theory I've seen going around is that Miquella didn't[ want him as consort for romantic reasons, but as a bodyguard of sorts
none of it is incest anyway, they don't want to be in a romantic relationship or anything it's basically the same as political marriage..
I mean, even if he didn't know that Radagon was Marika that would still be incest. Radagon is both Miquella and Radahn's father.

A lot of people hate this fight, but me, I absolutely loved it. Fighting her was like a dance. Probably 2nd fave fight after Bayle.

I will say her combos are not nearly as brutal as people say. As they often pause between combos.
Same. Took me 6 tries the first time and I enjoyed it. Maybe because I had a different method than the usual close-combat style of fighting? I still enjoyed fighting her on the 2nd playthrough.
Best boss in the game.

Consort doesn't have to mean husband or wife in elden ring. It could be a political union or strategic
as a player I know Ranni has the finest taste, I mean who in lands between would deny a warrior that killed demigods, gods and all other heavy hitters probably the most powerful beings in the lands between alone? she is securing protection to her throne, a great power in her side if needed to invade and probably a strong being who can use powers of dragon, can use most spells, incantations, weapons, jack and master of all.
I don't think that Rellana was allied to Messmer out of affection. At least, not originally.
I think she joined him in order to hasten the wars conclusion of the War. She knew that Messmer would never stop, and that his path from the Shadow Keep would take him by Castle Ensis, en route to Enir-ilim. She may have joined as a means of protecting her people.

I'm pretty sure Messmer didn't return her feelings.
The thing is, even if he did (and there's nothing to suggest that, as far as I'm concerned) we are explicitly told that Rellana (and the rest of Messmer's inner circle) "weren't enough to grant him succor". There's a twisted irony to the Carian Princesses, with both sisters being unable to live happily with the men they loved because of Marika- albeit in different ways. For Rennala it's rather straightforward- Radagon left her and their children to marry Marika. For Rellana, Marika's scorn and abandonment filled Messmer's heart with so much pain, bitterness and anger, that even when he had a found family in his loyal comrades there wasn't enough space left in it for their love to soothe it.
And that's the biggest tragedy about Messmer I think, that he truly *was* loved, but that his mother's cruelty broke him so thoroughly that even when he finds it in other people, it's like all he can do is mourn the absence of Marika's love. And because of that he still continually chooses to become a villain at her behest, even when we see glimpses of the once noble person Radahn saw in him. You get the sense he could easily begin a redemption, except he constantly chooses not to because he just can't or won't move on from this anger and pain.
I wanted Messmer to feel loved :(
He could’ve rejected her, he could have reciprocated her feelings🤷♀️ Though I too, think he just wasn’t feeling it. I mean given the item descriptions of her swords and such , it alludes to things bejng one sided. Not to mention how non of Messmer’s item descriptions mention his opinion/feelings on her, unlike Rellana’s where it would hint to how she was obsessed with him.
Key words like “Chase” and “Followed” in her descriptions also kinda insinuate that she was locked in this “chase” for his affection - which he never gave back.
Though one might argue that him giving her a sword was a romantic gesture, Messmer gifted all who served him his flame. The sword he gifted her was probably a token of his appreciation.
But the funny thing about some of Elden Ring’s lore, is that it is kind of vague , therefore that you can interpret it in different ways/how you see fit. So while you may believe he didn’t, someone may believe he did love her. And there’s no right or wrong answer really .

I feel that his duty came first and foremost. I don't even think he knew about her feelings, as he had a lot of people who followed him loyally to the end, deserting their noble lineage for him. Many items imply it was a common occurance; I think that the mix of performing the horrific acts he did & the level of depressive state we find him in when we fight him is a hint of his true mental state. I don't think he ever saw anything other than his duty, and his pure despair at being abandoned by his mother despite doing everything for her.
Kinda freudian, in a way. From everything I read, I just don't believe he had the mental 'room' to pursue romance, or even consider it as a possibility.
There are a LOT of themes of obsession in the DLC, but going into that would take up more than 10 paragraphs. Messmer's obsession with his abandonment, Rellana's obsession with Messmer, Romina's obsession with the fall of her church, Midra's obsession with enduring, the whole finger church questline & the obsession with bringing back the dead/turning into a 'mother', Miquella's obsession with his consort, Marika's obsession with revenge, the Hornsent's obsession with revenge a direct parallel.
Obsession runs deep.
@@chiefpurrfect8389 I wish he could've taken on a Rennala-like role in the game; that we could've helped him, or absconded him in a way. I feel we were robbed in that sense, that we could've had a lot of endings in the DLC/new endings in the main story.
Still a 10/10, just... sad we didn't get any kind of 'choice' or really affected the world in any way but one.
So from what I can tell these 2 are only members of this family who weren't blood related and one is in love with the other.

They are following the “lunacy” and love theme with the carian family. That seems to be the consistent theme. Renella for radagon, rellana for mesmer, ranni with herself, radahan with Godwyn/radagon.

I fought mimic tear with Rellana's swords and because I have the swords in my left hand 1st slot, with Sword of Night and Flame in my first slot right hand. Mimic tear believed that the main sword of the dual set existed so he switched to Night and Flame two handed, but would occasionally one hand and never attempt to left hand.
Bit of thought in case you wanted to fight mimic tear, or use mimic tear with these swords.

In human history before the study of genetics existed. It was common for royalty to marry with in the family to keep royal bloodline pure. It was also a diplomatic tool used for forming alliances between countries.
I wish there was a bit more lore or least have a small bit of dialogue of Renalla talking about her sister after we beat her.

well actually Radagon and Marika are same so basically the children Miqella, Malenia and Mesmer are just some cursed part of Marika herself. In, being a god, Marika wanted to conquer the entire lands between, including Land of Reeds, Mountaintops and all other to assist her in that path she created another version of herself; Radagon a warrior in conquest to win everything untill he met Rennala and eventually Marika met Hoarah Loux. and I suppose that's why we know what Radagon did, we know his presence but not his history, like his origin, birthplace, race or anything. and Ranni being an emperyian makes more sense as she is in way descendant of Marika.

So, what is your evidence that Messmer is Radagon's son? That he has red hair? Because considering that Rennala was not consumed by despair, evidenced by the gifts she gave Rellana, it seems more likely that Messmer is Godfrey's son.
Tbh so far only Godwyn the golden seems to be godfreys son , everyone else is cursed and red hair is pretty much radagon, you get his matrimonial sword from a red headed misbegotten too , red wolf of radagon etc etc
@@Saren_5 It requires more than what we see from her in game at least. But I suppose you could argue it was Ranni's 'death' that pushed her over the edge into full blown collapse.
The Red Hair originates from a curse, not from genetics, so that complicates matters. And if Godfrey is exiled right after the giants are killed, then likely Godwyn, Morgott, and Morg would've already been born by then, so they wouldn't get hit by the curse.
Good point about the tarnished though. Really, this timeline is a mess. Because I think we get lore that implies that Messmer grew up with Radahn.

You are right, every other demigod it is very clear and explicit who their parents are. The game flat out tells us who the parents are. Except for Messmer and Melina.
Those two don't follow that rule. We don't know where they come from. Just that Marika is their mother. And a timeline that doesn't make sense. Because Messmer was born before Radahn. So either Radagon was cheating on Rennala, which is possible, or Messmer is either Godfrey's child, or an unnamed third person.
