  • This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this talk, Shawn Kent Hayashi offers a glimpse into how the future job market will be more like making a movie, and how it will be focused on matching the motivators rather than turning the Resume Roulette.
Shawn Kent Hayashi serves as the Executive in Residence for the Lehigh University MBA program. As CEO of The Professional Development Group LLC, Shawn coaches entrepreneurs and executives in leadership ability, emotional intelligence, communication skills, and building high performing teams. She is also the best-selling author of Conversations That Get Results and Inspire Collaboration, Conversations for Creating Star Performers, and Conversations for Change™
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

Shawn must have a crystal ball to be so able to articulate how we will be working in the future. She paints this picture in an entertaining and provocative manner. A definite must watch Ted Talk. And if you work in a corporate setting like I do, you should show this video to your staff and engage them in a conversation about their work of today and their work of tomorrow. Matt

Shawn has served us in two ways through her talk; first, by extending into the future the continuing employee/employer disruption that began when IBM initiated their first downsizing back in the 80s. Second, Shawn vividly describes how this mobility of employment will provide some of our greatest opportunities to make work more meaningful and fulfilling.

In this talk, Shawn has inspired us to use our emotional guidance to ask questions and find solutions. What great advice! Indeed, if a person is happy, the positive energy will trigger his or her passion, and lift his or her souls for great things. Another part that stood out to me was when Shawn creatively connected emotional feelings to EQ, to one’s motivators, and path to success. I truly enjoyed the talk.

Shawn's forward-thinking approach to how workplaces can create engaging environments for the talent of tomorrow is refreshing and true. Today, employees increasingly want to match their intrinsic passions to the work they do. They want to connect their inherent skills and motivations with their jobs to create win/wins -- job satisfaction, and the growth and development of the companies they work for.
Shawn mentions Bill J. Bonnstetter in this video, who is founder and CEO of our company, TTI Success Insights, which has spent 30 years researching individual behaviors, skills and motivators and provides them to people and organizations via assessments so that these powerful connections are possible.
We do this because we believe everyone deserves to connect with their passion in the work they do. We believe the future of work needs to include the alignment of individual motivators and behaviors for greater business success.
