  • The Calimoto App is a motorcycle trip planner, GPS and tracker app which allows you to find the very best riding roads wherever you are in the world, simply at the tap of a button. It allows you to effortlessly plan a route either on your phone or desktop (with both syncing seamlessly with the other), receive turn by turn navigation specific for bikers, uses full worldwide coverage maps - available offline for those times when you have no signal, it records all your ride data, and allows you to easily share your adventure with friends.
    That's quite a claim eh, so how does it hold out in practice? Well I took the bull by the horns and headed out for a solo ride in Southern Spain armed with nothing more than the app, a bike, and a sense of adventure. Here's how I got on, hope you enjoy it folks.
    I'll be doing a comprehensive full review on the Calimoto app - warts and all, very soon so keep an eye out for that on the channel.
    Download a months free trial of the premium features when you download Calimoto App at - calimoto.com/g... - then drop me a line via instagram for a trial CODE - instagram @TeapotOneInsta

    Calimoto is brilliant....... But if your phone memory is quite high as mine was on a recent trip then its lagy, but that's down to the phone not the app, good vid, Bruce how could we think you waffle to much that's why we watch you, not just for the rides, reviews etc etc, it's you my friend.
    I find myself drawn towards positive, kind ppl, what's not to like.... Keep it up your a winner, p.s get yaself up to Suffolk again or I'm quite happy to have a ride out and a brew in Kent. All the best James.

    Been using this App for a month or so. It's the best app out there on the market! Definitely room for improvement, the occasional left turn that isn't there but if you want inspired and have a passion for exploring roads you wouldn't normally ride.. well it does a great job and it can only get better!

    I’ve tried the free version and it is good, but I don’t think it’s worth £40 a year for the full version. I know it’s not the same, but the TomTom app costs £13 a year and gives you a winding roads option which I have found to be fantastic.

    I have been using Calimoto, free version for two years. I can only use it in one state for free. I live in Florida. It is quirky but I like it. When I ride out of Florida I pay $6.95 per week to use it in another state. I am still working so I do not get out of the state but once or twice a year on the bike. The roads you are on are beautiful, I have to go to North Carolina to find great riding. South Florida is very flat.

    Thanks. I am a lone rider who discovered this app last year, and have found it very useful. Even use it on the car on occasions for fun. Thank for your review that confirmed my own experience especially with roundabouts and intersections. I have used it in my pocket (no visuals) to navigate through towns and that too works well.

    8000 miles using calimoto, the good: mostly chooses good to great roads in rural areas may send you down gravel or farm roads better left unridden. The bad: losing cellphone connection locks you into the route with no change options (same as google or wayz) so plan your route to a restaurant with wifi to change up.

    Never been an APP fan, instead always used a GPS when out on the bike. But what the hell, you gotta try these things, right! If for nothing else, just for the random ride calculator, Calimoto is well worth it. I've not used it yet as an A to B navigation tool (that's an easy thing for any app to do), but the round trip calculator, try'd it, love it! In an area you don't know and want to ride the best roads, or even one you think you do know, it's got you covered. No more working out which might be the best roads and trying to string a route together, just let it do its thing and enjoy. I'm a total convert.

He's a decent guy to deal with and its a good set up he runs. Visited him once and had a ball. Andalucia is awsome. Good bikes and great location. Downside for me is that I took the wife and there are not enough shops and beaches for her. She got a bit bored. But if you are on your own or with mates its a belter. I do love the app, but as has been said the detour feature, or lack of one is annoying. 1st time I rode with i came across a flooded road so turned around expecting the app to find another route which I thought it had ....4 miles later and I was back at the flooded rode..
    I listen to the app through my sena so rely on the spoken directions only.

Why dont they put a system were you can buy some maps and update them for 5 or 10 dollars every year or two years. Great roads... Great route around Spain and very entertaining, have used the free version of Cali moto a few times but question you might be able to answer, can the routes be downloaded in a version that can then be uploaded to a dedicated satnav such as the Nav VI?

    • @stevebolton8471
      @stevebolton8471 Před 4 lety +2

      I don’t think you can do that although I haven’t tried it. You can plan your routes on the calimoto website first and as you are logged in the routes are automatically synchronised with your phone app.

    If those were the lakes I think they were, you missed out big time, very twisty, very scenic but it's one end of the king's walk from/to Malaga, so abit touristy with the added chance of face planting into the front of a coach, on top of into a cliff, off a cliff or into the lake.

    Only issue i have with calimoto is the battery usage, my Samsung s9 went from 100% to empty in less than an hour while using it. No other app has ever got close to that, Google maps can run for hours and hours no problem. I'd be interested to know if anyone else had this problem

    Tried it. Kept getting email notifications on IOS stuck on the screen which would not clear automatically. Everything else cleared fine. My gloves are not screen interactive so was stuck with half a screen navigating. Gave up and returned using Waze. Otherwise it is very good.

    My 2 concerns are … battery life of the phone if no USB port on the bike, and the price being so high… in 4 years or less you’d have paid for a full gps system that can last you a lifetime instead.

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  Před 3 lety

      Personally I don’t know anyone who has kept a gps/satnav for more than 4 years before they’ve updated it 🤷‍♂️
      Calimoto is £50 a year for the full Premium membership - so after 4yrs that’s £200. You won’t get a new Garmin or tomTom bike specific gps for that, it’s £300+
      Battery life of your phone - yes it drains your phone battery fairly quickly, my iPhone 11Pro last about an hour and a half to two hours, but I always carry a power pack in my rucksack so just power from that.

    Does this app take into consideration dangerous areas to be avoided, tarmac and off-roading routes?( i would not like to take alloy wheels on the off-road) In Brazil can be a really big problem to take a wrong turn...

    • @paullee6663
      @paullee6663 Před 4 lety +2

      @Andre Almeida I'm pretty sure it sticks to 'proper' classified roads, that is, what you would see on a road map / atlas. (I have the 'free' app but not used it much yet) I suggest you download the 'free' version and give it a try. I'll be honest, I don't like trusting a satnav 'completely' in this way, Even TomTom, Garmin etc get 'confused' sometimes. Never disregard what you already know would be my advice. :-)

    Looks like a good app. Does it give you the option to exclude unclassified roads? I really wish sat navs would include that as an option, I've been caught too many times by the sat nav taking me down single track, gravel / moss down the centre type roads. At best, they're unpleasant, at worst they're dangerous on a bike!

    • @teapotone
      @teapotone  Před 4 lety +1

      I used it live, didn’t have any signal issues in Spain - Andorra was a nightmare though as I had no phone signal there so you need the offline maps for there.
      I’ve just spent a week in Wales and again I lost signal once so just switched to offline maps and it was perfect 👍

    Hi Bruce, wondering how this compares to the mobile version of My Route App, This also has an offline function which proved invaluable when we were in France and the Garmin stopped working due to their 'hacking' incident which affected all Garmin (& BMW Nav) devices globally.

  • @Mysticfizz24

    Question about the app: I have the free trial and find the navigation instruction volume is way to low. I’ve turned it up in the app but while playing tunes through the pactalk bold, either packtalk has to be turned up way to loud to hear the instructions, or the volume down so music volume is bearable, but then you can’t hear the app instructions. Does that make sense and has anyone else experienced this? 🤷‍♂️
    Keep the videos coming chap 🤘
