Louisiana is by far the best state to crab shrimp and fish! When I decided to relocate to the Gulf I did so in Mississippi and I regretted every day I should have picked Louisiana. I lived there and went to school there as a child when my dad was in construction. Miss it everyday!
It’s definitely one of the best outdoors places in the country. It’s not called sportsman’s paradise for nothing!!!

Love your channel bud! I have been out to Marsh Island many times! I grew up outside of Jeanerette and my parents have their houseboat along one of the canals at Cypremort Point! From there we only have to run less than 3 miles in the boat to get by the game warden camp. Hope to see you out there sometime!

Awesome video
Try a white mesh cast net, it seems to scare the shrimp less. If you ever go shrimping with just a net, the white nets will glide right under the shrimp to allow you to catch them. The blue net drives them out of the water and it looks like you are trying to catch butterflies.

Duck tape works well at the bottom of the net. And Blue crab fule works well with chicken. nice catch.

When you making bait balls for shrimp, try making patties inside! The balls roll away with the tide, when the patties stay flat on bottom.
We usually go out of rollover but looking to try a different area. Thanks for the info..
When I take my boat, we go to rollover due to my boat being way smaller.
@@LouisianaOutdoorsmen That's one of the reasons we go out of rollover also. I have a 14' flat with a 15 mercury. I'm gonna try the trick with the little jerks on the cast net in a couple weeks when I get back in from work.
Wesley Bourque bait with the fish meal and jerk the net. It allows those weights to filter all the shrimp off the bottom and into the net.

I buy my fish meal at T&S milling in new Iberia. I use one pound of flour to 4 pounds of fish meal. It is very cheap, it’s about $2-3 per pound at the place I get it at.
Great video! Wish we could catch shrimp from shore here in Maryland. You all ever use trotlines to catch crabs? Back pre 90s the crabbing here was amazing using them. Would take 1- 1000' line baited about every 2'. Would catch anywhere from .5 to a full bushel of big crabs per run of the line. If it required measuring we threw it back. Average size crab that we would keep was 7.5" with plenty of 8" and 9" crabs in the mix. Biggest one that I ever measured was 10.75".
Mike Davitt we had to get to this island by boat for the shrimp, and we catch our crabs in drop nets or traps never used a trotline except for catching catfish
Now we have to bait the line with razor clams just to draw the crabs. Too many people moving in the watershed.

Dats the way you do it.... How you get to that marsh island?
Launch out of Cypremort Point State Park and head Southwest for about 10-15 minutes. If you look on google maps go to Cypremort point and you will see Marsh Island in green. Once you get on the refuge, they have 3-4 different weirs to go on.

Hey Brother. I'm from South Louisiana also, do you ever go towards Sabine National Refuge? Laccassine NWR? Rockefeller NWR? I know alot of places you can catch shrimp, whole net full! Only keeping 16-20 counts and the CRABS! 3 at a time on each line with chicken necks and melt. It's insane trying to keep up with the crabs. But ALSO MONSTER REDFISH AND GAR FISH SO BIG IT'LL SCARE THE HELL OUT OF YOU! AT THE SAME SPOT!
During the summer, I go to Rockefeller NWR and Rollover to crab and catch shrimp. I have a smaller boat so I have to keep it to small water when I go out.

Best Crab bait I've used is bacon they love it I also caught shrimp in my crab trap with the bacon.

Usually in the summer and fall months is the best. The water is normally 5-8' deep.

Just check online Asians use them alot. Old timers here gave me the idea just cut off your lead and stich on some chain. Just weigh it first.

DonzoShadowWolf yes you need a boat. You launch out of cypremort point and head southeast for about 10-15 mins until you get to marsh island. They have a few different weirs to choose from.

Assuming you meant locate? We fish near a weir with good water flow. Make a couple cast with the cast net and if they are there they are there, if not then we move to more running water until we find them.

Richard Slingwine best places around are normally during the summer either in the marshes or near anytime of weir or water control type structure. Shrimp seem to like moving water.

Are the black drum too small or undesirable?
They were undersized for the laws in Louisiana. The 16-20" black drum are good to eat, but anything bigger than that is not pleasing to eat in my opinion.
