How to throw a cast net - BEST WAY - Any size, No Teeth, Stay Clean!
Captain Cody explains how to throw any size cast net. There are a large variety of methods to throw a cast net from the triple load method, the Percy methods and many ways to throw small cast nets. This method works for all size cast nets, 4 foot, 6 foot, 8 foot, 10 foot, and in the video, a 12-foot net is being thrown. The method does allow for 100 percent of the net to open but on average the net opens about 80 percent. Other methods might open then net more but are not as fast, clean, or as easy to throw. Using this method throwing a net goes from being a pain to being a fun enjoyable activity. When drift fishing or anchoring having live bait is a must and learning to throw a net will help you catch more fish. - Sport
This is by far the best of all videos I've seen for casting any size net. I've tried countless other videos for years with varying results. This is the first technique that allows me to consistently "pancake" my 8 ft. net without having to use my teeth or throwing the net over my shoulder. Great work, Captain Cody, and God bless you!
Thanks for the positive feedback! Good luck fishing!
Best tutorial I've seen for far. Easiest out of all I've tried.
Glad it helped!
The best tutorial yet! Thanks for sharing. Saw it last nite, tried it okay and was totally amazed with how well this technique works. Again, thanks.
Glad it worked for you Buddy! Thanks for the feedback, good luck fishing!
Excellent instruction skills. I loved how he did the whole operation several times. This helps a lot! Thanks!
Good deal! Good luck catching bait and thanks for watching!
Thank you!
I've watched how-to videos on cast nets for years!
Finally after watching your video a few times I can FINALLY throw a pancake!
Thank you Cody for sharing!
Sure thing, thanks for watching!
Great instructions. I just moved up to an 8ft from a 4ft and now I can get a "perfect circle" on almost every throw. Thanks Captain.
Sure thing, good luck catching bait!
Awesome! I've tried so so many methods. Hands down.... Your method is the best for me. Thank you so so much.
I am glad you found the video helpful. Good luck fishing!
Great video, Captain. Your throwing method is the best, no mouth, no shoulder, clean and dry. I am gonna use your way. Thanks again.
Thanks for the positive feedback. Good luck fishing!
I have tried and tried other methods and I can actually throw a net now using your method. FINALLY!!! A system that works. Thank you sir!!
That is great! Good luck fishing!
Out of all the videos on CZcams, yours is the easiest way in my opinion, Thank you
Glad you found the video helpful Kenneth, good luck fishing!
The BEST way to throw a cast net! Capt. Cody is #1 Thanks for the video!!
ha ah Thank you! Good luck catching bait! Thanks for watching!
This video is awesome. I struggled for years to throw a 10 foot net. Now I’m getting it like 80 percent open on every throw. Thank you!!
Great, I am glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
Gotta tell ya...This is prolly the best video I've seen. I have yet to throw my net period. I've seen one other guy use this method but he was longwinded and overboard. You gave us the cliff notes version with plenty of demo. And btw..that last throw of the video was perfect. This will be my go to for my 8ft net. Thanks Cap Cody.
Thanks, glad it was helpful! Good luck catching bait!
I like your method and video. You are clear and to the point. Practiced about 20 throws with a 10ft net and getting it about 70% open. Thanks!
Thanks for the positive feedback Steve! Good luck catching bait!
Great video.Thank you for the step by step instructions. Going to try this tomorrow.
Awesome, have fun catching bait!
Yup, this is the most effective tip how to throw a 12 ft caste net. I really enjoyed your video and it does help me catch more baits. You really deserved a thumps up and a subscribed.
Thanks Ricky!
Thanks for teaching this technique! Once proficient - amazing results.
Sure thing, thanks for watching Martin!
I’ve been trying to learn how to throw my 8ft baitbuster net for over a year and I’ve given up on it. I’ve watched tons of videos with zero success. I watched you entire video last night woke up this morning to take out the trash and grabbed the net. I threw it 2 times using what your Technique and low and behold to perfect throws. Thanks captain Cody.
Thanks Nathan that made my morning! Good luck fishing with lots of bait!
So glad I found this!!! I can open my 8 footer - no problem, but I gave up on my 10 footer! Thank you so much for sharing this Cody!!!
You are so welcome! Thanks for watching!
I recently totaled my 6 foot net of which I could throw decent enough to get some bait. Bought a new 8 footer and man, I was lost, could not throw it at all! Watched your video after numerous others on CZcams and was immediately impressed with the simplicity so I gave your technique a shot and nailed it on the very first attempt. Thank you Sir!!
That is great Bill, good luck fishing!
Absolutely excellent! Thanks for refining my almost there technique to this!
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for a kickass video. That method is kickass sweet.
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for the positive feedback. Good luck catching bait!
Will definitely try this style next time!
Thank you captain
Sure thing, good luck!
Best method I've seen so far. Great Job!
Thanks, good luck catching bait!

Thanks for sharing
Thanks David, good luck catching lot of bait!
Me too
Great video. Easy to follow instructions. Best way that i have sern so far. Have been struggling with smaller net.
Tried your method this afternoon and after a couple of "bananas" started to finally see some pancakes. Thanks for the video!
Awesome! Glad it worked for you. Good luck catching bait!
Awesome video bro i had to subscribe right away your description on how to was so simple thank you very much could finally catch some good bait
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
Best cast net throwing video I’ve ever seen. Throwing pancakes non stop. Thanks Cap!
Fantastic! Glad it was helpful!
Just ordered a net from your link. Moving from the Midwest SW FL and was dreading learning to throw a net.
This video has me excited to learn. The other methods had me intimidated and not looking forward to it . Thanks so much for sharing your experience.
Sure thing! Thanks for that! I should have some more cast net videos coming soon as well. I was out tonight catching some mullet on the Gulf side in the keys. We saw lots of tarpon, sharks, and cuda attacking the mullet but thought it was just fun cathing the bait. Throwing a net does take some practice but can be quite fun!
welcome to SW Florida! by far the best method
I got an 8ft Barracuda net. This is the most easy method I have seen to get the net to open consistently. Thank you.
Awesome! Thanks for watching Ian!
Dude! I have been trying different techniques for my 8' for the last couple weeks with frustrating results. This method works for me! Thank you for sharing!
Sure thing, that is great! Good luck fishing!
First thanks for taking the time to reply. I have watched your video and you make it look easy (more importantly understandable), but I am sure a lot of that is because of the time you have invested in learning how to do it properly. The net i bought was advertised as 12' it's actually 6'. I have a small 4 1/2' net that is real easy to throw ... so i believe i am going to spend the money and buy a good bigger net ... probably 8'.
Thanks again you're a quality skipper!
Glad it was helpful, thanks for watching Michael!
Thanks for the refresher .
Sure thing, thanks for watching!
I gotta say I have been set on the triple load for a long time but I love how this doesn’t get you wet and honestly I think it’s more consistent pancakes
Nice! Yeah, both work but this way makes the process more fun cause you stay dry. Thanks for watching!
I just tried this method after getting soaking wet using another method. It's awesome...so quick and easy. Thanks for posting this. The first time I tried it, it worked!!
Awesome, I am glad you found it helpful, thanks for watching!
I have a few large nets and have been using the "triple load" method, which works very well, however after that first initial cast, you get all wet throwing the second, third,.... I will give this method a try. Thanks Captain Cody for sharing in such great detail!
Yeah, triple load is a great way to throw a net, just not as fun cause you get a wet. This way makes catching bait enjoyable. Catch em up!
Thanks brother! I am a pro now! So easy and clean!
Awesome! Glad the video was helpful. Thank for watching!
Thank u so much for making this video I'm bout to upgrade from a 8 foot to a 12 foot net and was already throwing kinda janky but I tried your technique with my current net and instantly saw results
Great, good luck catching bait! Thanks for watching!
Great demo way to keep it super simple and get great results!
Thanks for watching Justin! Good luck fishing!
excellent explanation, best tutorial on casting a cast net on youtube, thanks
Thanks for the positive feedback! Good luck fishing and catching bait!
excellent video, great technique and fantastic job with filming angles. I think this will allow me to throw my 10' or 12' again. On the shelf since shoulder problem. Watched many videos over the years trying to find a throw that won't rip my shoulder out. Never found the right answer until I saw this. Thx u.
Glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
You are a great teacher dude!.....your methodology step by step was eeeeeeasy to follow!.....High 5 dude!
Thank Justin, High 5! Good luck catching bait!
WoW. you made my easy thank you so much for this video after watching a bunch videos I finally come up on yours and I kept saying to myself there has to be a better way. Again Thank you
Sure thing, good luck catching bait!
I just watched this video and went out and threw the net. Much better way then I was shown and easy. Pancakes 4/5 times…Thank you Capt!
Sure thing, thanks for watching!
Thank you so much. I was getting frustrated and about to throw in the towel until i watched this video. Great step by step and works really well...(most of the time) :)
Awesome, glad you got it to work! Thanks for watching!
best cast vid ive seen.
Thanks for watching!
Your video was the best one I've seen so far because I'm left handed and I also like your technique
Great, I am glad that it worked for you!
Thank you.....finally a technique that actually works. Hit tip to you.
Thanks! Glad you got it to work well. Good luck fishing!
wow, I'm impressed! I have a light 8' net, and can throw it perfectly every time, but my heavy 8' and 10' net, no luck. I will try your method and report back, thanks again!!
Sounds good, let me know how it works!
Just awesome mate, exactly the best way to throw a net.
Thanks for watching Jik!
Yep, I agree- easiest method right here by Captain Cody. Quick load and ready to go
Thanks for watching Kim!
@@CaptainCody7 do you have more videos. My son has struggle casting net and he learned so quickly w your method, and then I got tired of standing around so I’m learning now too- so more hopeful now!!! Great job. 😇
More easy this way Capt...thanks...
Hoping to buy one soon
Thanks Tikks, good luck catching bait! See the page below the video for more info on the best cast nets.

Best instructional video on how to cast a net that I have seen anywhere, thanks for posting it.
Thanks for the positive feedback Peter! I will be making more how to videos in the near future. Good luck fishing!
As a newby to fishing in SW Florida, I'm a 66 year old guy. I have searched high amd low for tutorials how to throw a cast net. Yours is the best. Great job. Thank You.
Thanks for the positive feedback! Good luck catching fish down there! Check out my site, global fishing reports, I write articles on how to catch may different types of fish down your way.
I like your salmon fishing videos, looks fun!
Thanks Cody. Anxious to try throwing some live bait in and around the canals that are down here.
@@westwindcharters9146 Yeah, live bait will catch everything!
Great instructional video managed to learn that way to throw my 10ft cast net perfect pancake in 7 throws. Thank you👍
Awesome! Good luck fishing!
Ok, I have been working on this while on vacation in Myrtle beach South Carolina. And I have to say, I have watched multiple videos on casting large nets, and I have been casting smaller nets my whole life. This video was the easiest by a land slide the first cast with your technique went perfect pancake! I have almost perfected it! Thanks so much for sharing your secret to success!
Glad it worked for you! Thanks for the positive feedback! Good luck fishing!
your a good teacher best one i saw and will use
Thanks Ralph! Good luck fishing!
Thanks! I have spent the past 6 months trying to do what you do. I have watched every video on CZcams and still couldn't get it. I watched your video and in about 3 hours I had it down. I can throw the net just like you do. Semper Fi
Awesome, glad you found it helpful! Good luck fishing!
Very good video, great content with clear communication skills. I'm ready to catch some bait.
Glad it was helpful, that for watching David!
It's really simple, thanks mate
Sure thing, good luck catching bait!
Great video, thank you!
Sure thing, thanks for watching!
Very nice and seems consistent!
Yeah it works great!
Excellent lesson!
Thanks for watching Paul! Good luck catching bait!
That way seems quite simple, i will give it a try. Thank you
Thanks for the feedback. Good luck catching bait and then catching bigger fish!
Great video. Beautiful background
Thanks Joe, this was filmed in St. John in the USVI. There is lots of good fishing and snorkeling in St. John.
really appreciate you showing how to do it several times in the video.... really helps it sink in rather than replay after replay....... can you do a video on how to determine where to go to catch bait, what to look for etc?
Thanks
Thanks for watching Jimmy! I plan to make a few more cast net videos coming up, I can make sure to include that. I have videos on how to catch mullet and how to catch bunker on my channel. If you are looking for pilchards they are most active at first light. Look for any surface activity or diving pelicans close to the shore. Once you find bait it is typically in the same area for a few weeks.
Thanks Captain you made it look easy
No problem, thanks for watching! It does take some practice but is fun and a great way to catch bait!
Thanks! Your video helped me stay dry!
Awesome! Have fun catching bait!
Great video. Thanks Captain!
Thanks for watching Syed! Good luck fishing!
I know rob pretty well I’m sure he was thrilled seeing this video
Thanks u I'm trying to learn how to use one ND this is the best way can't wait to teach my kids
Thanks, the binary conversion of your name using ASCII gave me a bad word. What is it suppose to be Mr. web? Good luck catching bait with your kids!
Just bought a 8’ betts old salt net going out tmrw for striper going to try this method thank you
Great, good luck! Also if you are trying to catch large bunker I have a video on how to do that. It is actually good to back over them with the boat and then throw so the splash does not scare them.
I’ve started to use my cast net to get Finger Mullet in canals, tutorial worked very well. Thanks.
Also what’s the best way to find baitfish, especially in murky water, I’ve been throwing randomly in spots I’ve seen bait. Is there anything I can look for to make this process easier?
@@YourLocalCanuck It depends how deep they are. Usually at first light mullet will make swirls on the surface for the first 30 minutes of light. During the day you can use a fish finder to help find them. The shallower the area the easier it is to spot and catch them during the day. Hope this helps, good luck fishing!
You made it look dang easy !!
Thanks! Good luck catching bait! I also made a new video that is a bit more detailed on how to throw a cast net.
excellente. Live in North Port Florida......will be showing this to EVERYONE......fyi it works :)
Thanks for the positive feedback!. Glad that it worked for you! Good luck catching bait in Florida!
Great video capt works well
Glad it worked for you! Good luck catching bait!
used this on 7 footer. I learned if u leave a little more weight, lead, on your dominant throwing hand it’ll pancake a lot better. thanks for the vid, helped a ton!
Good info! Glad it was helpful for you. Thanks for watching!
Thanks to your video, I've got bait for the US Open King Mackeral Tournament.
Awesome, I hope the tournament went well for you!
I’m going to give this a try. Now I throw a heavy 10 footer using the triple load. Rather stay dry if possible. Might give this a try with my deep hole net as well.
Awesome, tripple load is a good way to trow a net. I switched because I did not like the wet lead on my shoulder after the first trow. Make sure the net is tangle free and this method works great. Good luck fishing!
2023 an im still using this method thanks bro 🤝🏾💯
Awesome, sure thing!
Great Job!
Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Great video, thanks!
Thanks for watching, good luck catching bait!
Well I finally realized what I was allowing to happen that was destroying the throw! When I brought the approx. 1/3 of the net over my right hand then went down to get the 2nd loop of near side net to put over I was allowing all the net in my right hand to come over or fall over the side of my hand nearest to my body!
It took this Bonzo a long time to realize why the net ended up in a clump !
I'm getting good pancakes now with the 8 ft net but it will take a lot more practice for me to be able to throw the 8 ft net or a 10ft net or bigger as effortless as you do ! Many thanks for your great video help!
Sure thing! Glad you got it to open good now!
Great vid, good job 👍
Thanks! 👍
Saludos gracias por compartir, lo miro desde La Paz Baja California Sur, Mexico.
Cool, thanks for watching!
Very good technic ! Thank you .
Thank you, good luck catching bait!
Been using your method a few weeks now and I've been catching tons of mullet
Glad to hear that it is working for you! Thanks for the report and thanks for watching Lemuel!
Holy crap you make that look easy 👌 Last week I fell out of the boat trying to throw mine 😂😂😂😂 Im trying your way 👏👏
O no, hopefully the water was warm! Yeah, give it a try, if the net is tangle free it should open nicely. Good luck catching bait!
Yes water was warm 😂😂 Wife fell on the floor laughing at me 🤪🤪🤪 But hey at least she has something to rib me about for another 30 years LOL
@@leeroysimpsonn5489 Nice, that sounds more fun than catching bait! Atleast she did not video it to send to her friends...
Yes enjoyed really. Good luck.
Good deal! Thanks for watching and good luck catching bait!
Thank you Cody. This is truly the best method ever. I can be standing in waist deep water and still get great throws every time, love it!
Cool, glad you found it helpful! Thanks for watching!
You all prolly dont care at all but does someone know of a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I was dumb lost my password. I appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Kairo Raiden instablaster =)
@Jake Jerome thanks so much for your reply. I found the site through google and Im trying it out now.
Seems to take a while so I will reply here later with my results.
@Jake Jerome It did the trick and I finally got access to my account again. I'm so happy!
Thanks so much, you really help me out!
I always use this methods, very easy, the down side is you cannot throw hard on this methods to reach far ground. It is perfect to throw at baits right in front of you. The key is to throw nice and gentle at a constant speed. Nice instruction.
Yeah, it depends on the size of the net. With small nets, you can still throw it far. Thanks for watching dan!
Thanks for your tutorial ilove it
I'm glad you like it. Thanks for watching!
Great lesson
Thank you! Good luck catching bait!
Of all the methods to throw a cast net I like this one the best. Got taught by an experienced deep sea fisherman to use your teeth. I never felt comfortable knowingly exposing myself to lead. But using this method I have caught plenty of bait fish, a drum, and a largemouth bass.
Nice work, thanks for the feedback!
Excellent video lesson!
Thanks for watching Paul, good luck catching bait!
@@CaptainCody7 I just tried your method in my swimming pool! I didn't catch bait, but made great pancakes!
@@paulspeidell7386 ha ah Good deal! You can also practice in the grass.
Thank you so much! I couldn’t find a way to throw my 10 footer over the inside wall of my pontoon boat. This is the way!
You're very welcome! Yeah this way should work for that!
Thanks for your greet video its worked for me before I was throwing half panckes
Awesome! Good luck fishing!
Hi from Australia. Awesome video. Just one quick question... when you 'grab the outside line' to hook it up over your thumb, are you grabbing the line furthest away from you (of the two) or the one closest? Kind of hard to tell from the video. Or does it matter?
Thanks for watching, it will be the line closest to you. There should really only be one line if you are reaching for it with your left hand.
Finally a No pissing around how to vid. Clendon Park Auckland NZ. "Nga Mihi"
Thanks Cobsta Dean, good luck catching bait!
