    Man wish this was in 4k.... You cant film epic cribs like this in 1080p, its just criminal.

  • @NiallC
    @NiallC Před 2 lety +7

    OMG, can we do a 4K revisit of Paul's Crib? No doubt the tech would have been iterated upon since then 😅.
    My first time seeing this, but this is endgame stuff.
    Not to take away from Homay, Christian et al, but having watched a lot of Paul's demos, his quality compositions, even if he writes them off as a 'demo' for a new library, leaves me humbled

    I had the same experience with a Red Focusrite Mic Pre... I got so used to the sound that once I sent it into the shop for a small repair and decided to use another preamp for a vocal session with a great singer and wow... what a shock! I sent the singer home and rescheduled. My Lord what a huge difference. I still have it and use it all the time.
    Great studio, thanks for sharing Paul.

    Surprised that you need limiting at all. If you're delivering at -23 LUFS -2 TP, you have to have a super wide LRA to need limiting, especially following some juicy analog love.

    On the subject of thinking about gear from an investment perspective.. I guess I think the way that lands for some folks is like you shouldn't get gear simply because you have a crush on it.. or sometimes it's like.. well I think of behringer gear, as a for instance.. the bar is so low for getting certain types of sounds that I feel like.. well it's just something you have to kinda weigh.. and I think that's the thing.. like the investment perspective is something you need to weigh in your thought.. but it's totally cool to weigh it differently in different contexts.

    There's a lot of really strange aliasing going on in the video, even in 1080p. It looks like some kind of upscaling? Not sure what happened, this is a bit distracting from the great studio tour

    • @Bucking_Fastard
      @Bucking_Fastard Před 4 lety +2

      It is a recording of a live stream. That's why the quality is a bit iffy at times.

    • @dieleinwandhelden3646
      @dieleinwandhelden3646 Před 4 lety

      It seems to be an issue with deinterlacing. I guess the video stream was flagged as being interlaced even though it was in fact progressive or psf and then de-interlacing was applied.

    actually not good advertising when someone who presents a lot of the Spitfire libraries (of course all digitally processed sounds) says that he puts the stuff he makes on the computer thru his analogue gear "to make it sound more like music" (at 44.13). Not everyone has the needed room, money or time to process every single sound thru dozens of analogue stuff to change the sound ever so slightly (of course you can change it dramatically, but if there's a need to do that, these libraries would be worthless, and nobody would buy them)

    • @AndyNicholson
      @AndyNicholson Před 4 lety +4

      Not really, I'd much rather have high quality "raw" samples to use in any way I want and tailor to whatever suits best, than have their perception of what sounds best embedded into the audio that you have no way of changing.

    • @Ryan.Chapman
      @Ryan.Chapman Před 4 lety +5

      I think you are taking this out of context. He was talking about using a Neve Mic Preamp to process vocals... I dont understand where processing samples through a ton analog gear is mentioned.

    • @TheJonHolstein
      @TheJonHolstein Před 4 lety +1

      They just like gear. Hardware that has "a sound", alters the signal. Many many years ago, all hardware altered the signal significantly, and then it was all about picking the sound one liked the best. Then some compnaies started making products that did not have a sound of their own, because there was minimal alteration to the signal. with time, more and more companies were able to construct products, that did not have a sound of their own.
      At that time some people got a bit boored with the un-altered sound, so they started looking for products that altered the sound. For some strange reason, instead of analyzing what they thought certain sounds needed to suit there case, and use clean eqs compressors, and other tools to achieve this, they started looking for hardware that did something they liked with the audio, without understanding exactly what. But when the alteration didn't fit all sounds, they still did not bother to understand what type of alteration they liked on specific sounds, and started collecting different hardware.
      All those processors could have easily been replaced with midi controllers with a similar, that called up a specific effect/effect-rack and performed a single or a couple of tasks when playing with the controls (given that they had a clean signal to start with), and they would be just as fun to use.
      Learn what kind of alternation you like to a signal, and you can find multiple tools to achieve it, without having to have any hardware. And you can apply the same things to signals whatever the source is (one's own recording, something recorded elsewhere, or recorded with a new sound interface). And then one can make custom midi controllers for a fraction of the type of outboard gear studios like this have, and still get the same joy from having things with tactile feedback. (with custom midi controllers, it is also possible to make new front plates, if one feel like chaging things up a little, just for something new to look at, or if one finds a new type of alteration that one prefers).

      When you have a bunch of sampled instruments playing together, it often helps to run the mix through something that glues it together. There are actually quite a lot of good mastering plugins for that. But moving a real knob with your actual fingers is a better way to intuitively find the sweet spot on the dial.
