    The one factor is bone structure (Length)and bone density. If you look at Mike Mentzer and Frank zane, both men are around the same height. Mike has the ability to hold more muscle because he has thicker bones. Because of this he can handle heavier weights. Zane was no slouch when it comes to strength. An important part of bench pressing, shoulder pressing, and any kind of pressing movement is to not train the heck out of your biceps and triceps. If you are blasting your biceps and triceps with lots and lots of sets until they get sore they won't recover enough to be able to do heavy presses and heavy bench presses.

    It's not complicted but you need to know what your weakness is. If it's triceps, do some pin pressing an inch above your head or include some isolation tricep work. If its your front delt include some db front raises at the end of the workout or seated db presses to stress the font delt without being limited by other potentially weak muscle groups. If it's your core, you can try some db windmills or one arm db presses for 8-10 reps or do some push presses and concentrate on slowly lowering the bar (5-8 secs) If a muscle is lagging you need to train outside of your main lift or change the lift varion at least.

      I switched to resting 5 minutes in between my press sets, and I immediately started getting 5, 5, 5 again. I just don't recover enough in 3 minutes.

    • @Mantorok12
      @Mantorok12 Před rokem +1

      @@user-tz9jh6pv2j I would suggest you're hitting a point of diminishing returns in the linear progression. 3x5 with more weight is progress, but not strictly so if you need far more rest to accomplish it. If you can do 3x5xX with 4 minutes of rest, but 3x5x(X+5) takes 5 minutes of rest, those aren't the same conditions. That is regression rather than progression. Strength is a matter of intensity (weight), volume (reps), and work capacity (endurance). I would recommend looking for a periodization program, that goes from high volume with moderate intensity down to low volume with high intensity. Also do some cardio. 20 minutes on the treadmill with enough Incline to keep your heart rate up, you don't have to go fast.

      You start pressing four times a week once you’re intermediate to advanced, not a novice. At that point, you need to choose which lifts to focus, you don’t progress both lifts simultaneously when pressing four times a week. • @jaghad
      @jaghad Před 3 lety +1

      To be fair, that is, in many cases, the only answer.
      Like Rip says you have to train the press more often. But having done so and having perfected the technique you cannot press more than a certain weight given your genetics and bodyweight. If you take drugs you change the equation, but, if that's off the table you are back to bodyweight and genetics. And, you can't do anything about your genetics. Thus, the only thing you can change is your bodyweight. It is that simple.
      I would not follow Rip's advice. I want to look good. I have accepted that given my weight, genetics, the time I can spend in the gym and recovery, I really can't do much about the weights I am lifting. But, hey, that is fine. I am satisfied with the outcome.
