Today I tried to purchase a Atomix for $99, even though Home Depot said they had them in stock, they didn't. Three different store had Inventory for the Atomix, but none actually had them in stock. So I complained nicely to the manager and she said I could pick out the drill that was similar to what I was looking for and I could have it at the same price as the Atomix. So, I went and showed her the XR with a 5ah battery, not knowing it was a lot more expensive, which was $179. She said no problem and took $80 off the price.
Home Depot may have the worse Inventory tracking but they are keeping me as a customer.
Now someone will just hide the extra stock somewhere nearby, get the discount, and dip without ever legally stealing anything
Damn really? God damn
Nice
Checked out your channel from watching “VCG” on CZcams. I’m a DeWalt fanboy. Subscribed after watching past videos. Good luck on getting to the 10K subscriber milestone!
I thank you so much sir and I have 275 video to watch and upload pretty much everyday. :)
So what your saying is if your getting paid by the hour go with the atomic, if by job go with the XR.
lol. that is a good way to look at it :)
LOL
Lucky me my work has atomics
Just got a combo XR deal at lowes with the drill driver dcd791and the dcf887 and I couldn't be happier. I started out my electrical apprenticeship with an extreme series 12v impact and driver, the XR is definitely a huge upgrade but the extreme still has their uses as they're super lightweight!
I do love the extreme, and I thank you for viewing Rodolfo
I look at videos like these from time to time to pass the time. Each time I'm glad I went with the XR series. I have a 1/2 impact, 1/4 impact, and the 1/2 inch chuck brushless drill non hammer model. I wanted to keep all the tools from the same line and the XR series seemed like a good choice. I also now know if I ever need to drive an 8 inch plus lag in, I'll grab the half inch impact. I'm a big fan of battery powered tools, they definitely have their place and suit my needs better than air or corded tools. My next one will most likely be the angle grinder and circular saw.
The Xr line is awesome andI thank you for viewing Swoop
Just got me an XR impact, an the new 60V Flex Volt circular saw I highly recommend! Never used a cordless saw that felt just as powerful as a corded until now!
I have had the XR impact and drill for awhile and they are awesome.
Great video! Thanks for taking the time to put all of this together.
not a problem and thank you Migueche20
Ive been remodeling old homes for almost two years full time, my atomic impact hasnt let me down yet. That being said i did upgrade this week to xr after my raise.
Just got home from buying the atomic series set with impact and drill with 1.5aH for $229 because the store was out of stock of the same combo XR with 2aH for $199 (regularly $249). Glad I watched this before opening the box because now I'm running to another Home Depot for the XR and returning the atomic.
I am glad I can help and that is what this channel is for
@@ManCaverTools No store within 150 miles had the XR, the manager of Home Depot told me to buy it off Amazon. She also said the Dewalt store on Amazon is always cheaper and USA made whereas the home depot ones are sometimes made in China. Good to know. I got the XR and it's amazing. Thank you again for this great review.
@@kenfett7070 the atomic line is not a bad tool tho yeah it’s seconds slow but it will get the job done
@@kenfett7070 pretty sure all dewalt is made in mexico
@@kenfett7070 just because it is chinese doesnt make it bad, ryobi and milwaukee are largely chinese based companies so is ridgid
That dewalt XR with a 5.0 battery is a monster!!! By the way, mine come with the spring assist to make easier the change of bit. Just push it and expels the bit by itself
Thats a very good feature to have and thank you sir
Hilti Makes some nice Concrete Anchor Insert bolts, instead of using an impact wrench I simply used the 887 with a 3/8 adapter for a 1/2 socket instead and that works far better than an impact wrench at that size which is very typical connected to a 3/8 threaded rod.
very good and thank you Ryan
Just bought the 887 XR. Cannot wait to put it thru its paces
I've always bought the XR version. You did show me that the Flex battery is not just a gimmick! I may have to invest in a couple Flex batteries.
I use the flex battery all of the time and I thank you James
I've noticed a power increase in my other 20v tools using the flex
Thanks, man that was very helpful! Looked fun, too! Good stuff!
I Thank you so much for viewing :)
Freaking awesome! Imma have to upgrade the XR then. Still happy with my atomic set though.
XR is badass but that doesn't mean that your atomic is garbage. it would be good to have both. :) can never have to many tools
@@ManCaverTools Agreed! I like the atomic drill for light work. Its so compact and light that I usually have no reason to go dig up my smaller makita (10.8v). The atomic set at aroun 150 is a great entry level set and makes brushless affordable. I think the m18 set is a good option too, but if someone's already in the dewalt line, the atomics are great light duty tools
The brushed atomic line is better than the brushless and cheaper once the brushless mottors slow to a certain speed they will shut off so drilling functions like paddle bits you will see thiss
Thanks, was about to replace my broken (dropped from 30') xr with a atomic, but not now. Phew, close one.
that is why this channel is here and I thank you Matthew
I purchased an Atomic battery and charger for $99. Got a Dewalt drywall screw gun for free. Based on this test, it may be time to return both.
A good feature to have on your impacts LOL- a Collet that works
that is correct lol, that is actually VERY important
The 887 isn’t a bad impact I used one for years no problem still going along now worth my money.
I dont think its a bad impact at all either.
Thanks, for the show, i wish you would have tried the Atomic with flex on that last bolt.
more videos will be coming and this was an older video
It wouldn't have pulled it
Good video, not too shabby, not too shabby at all.
I thank you sir
Hi,
The DeWalt DCF887 1/4" impact is a pretty good impact. Like i mentioned before i use both brand (DeWalt & Milwaukee). I guess there's a lot of mix feeling and some bad batch of DeWalt DCF887 and Milwaukee gen 3 - 1/4" impact. On VCG TTR and other comparison videos they hada few that started to burn up. Plus a few youtubers had the same issue. I had mine and it never burn up or given me any problems.
I also have my milwaukee gen 3 1/4" impact and it also works great. No colet issue like some people are having and also Vince at VCG is having. Again a bad batch. This just proves that issues do happen to all companies. Funny how both company haven't mentioned or stated that they address the issue. They both are quite or hoping people can forgive and forget. Or maybe they solved the problem but don't want to bring it up.
Either way I'm very happy with both brands. Yes one is better then the other but each company has tools better then the other.
Thanks for making time to make this video..
I agree and I thank you very much for you feedback. some tools dewalt dominates and for some Milwaukee dominates
seems like the ryobi did pretty good to. Im thinking about getting an xr recp saw
Wow that Ryobi is Nooooo joke. That drilled those long lags in effortlessly. I'm a blk and yellow camper. But Damn that Ryobi sent those lags home fast.
I thank you for viewing :)
Youve got what you paid for but any way it doesnt matter if lower end model performs slower the important thing is they can accomplish both of your project
but because of this video people know what these can do
HVAC AE, yeah that's true I agree. But as a Carpenter, Framer and Deck Builder I wouldn't use Impact Driver for that kind of task regardless of Brands. For 1/2", 9/16" and little bit bigger diameter lag bolts I would use my Mid-range DeWalt DCF894 Brushless 1/2" Impact Wrench for a much larger Fasteners, like Post Lag bolts especially for concrete or much bigger hex fasteners I would use my Ingersoll Rand 1" Pneumatic Impact Wrench (the one that mechanics are using to take out Semi Truck's Wheels) why I still have Pneumatic tools?? Because those are the ones that I don't use most often. You don't need cordless battery operated tools IF you don't use them the most. Common sense and you can save tons of money for buying tools. And for impact drivers? As long as they it can drive 3-1/2 deck screws or as long as it can drive 8" Timberlok or Spax power lag screws you'll be alright.
Love my XR drilled holes and tighten loosen and re tighten bolts on my enclosed trailer still has plenty battery left . Put in 52- 5/16 bolts and 80 self tapping screws #12 and had to drill holes in wood and steel beams. Worth paying the extra money. I got lucky lowes had them priced wrong. They came with 4 amp hour batteries, have impact driver and impact drill.
very good and I thank you for sharing your story Pat
How much for that combo?
@@tombomombodombo bought mine 2 years ago they had it priced wrong saved 65.00. Look online or lowes for sales . Be careful homedepot has brushless impact and drill but it's the atomic line not as good as XR.
This video was not too shabby...Not too shabby at all.
Thank you sir
Im glad i reccomended the xr model to a customer i helped he said he wanted the best and was originally looking at atomic but i just had to read the specs and he was sold on xr, hopefully i made the right decision leading him to the xr instead of the atomic
You did a good thing to recommend the XR. The atomic is awesome but the XR is the way to go, especially recommendations to a customer
I would go with the brushed impact over the atomic.
XR is best way go in my opinion it’s like there construction model an the atomic is just a re branding of what I call city boy home use models they usually weaker on specs an not built as tuff in my opinion
FYI, the Ryobi drilled the screws in at around 4.74sec and the last screw, which was tougher, at 7.29sec. Dewalt vs Ryobi should be next :)
I can do that and I thank you for the suggertion wild
10:13 for a second I thought you let the smoke out on the XR but it was your breath haha
lol it was cold in the garage and thank you for viewing
@@ManCaverTools fire up the ryobi torpedo!
Check out the new MetaboHPT multivolt line. The reciprocating saw is the best on the market and the other tools are nice too.
Will do and thank you sir
I tried them both side by side, the Atomic is barely smaller and much less powerful, XR is far better for the money
XR is your best bet
I just swapped my atomic for an XR
This video was helpful because I need to install my desk to the wall in my home office and I know I need to go into the cinder block so I am looking for the right tool
if you need to go into cinder blocks you will beed a Hammer drill as well
Putting the bolt in the midle is the pith so is softer but still impressive. I would like 2 see a review on the draper d20 impact driver thanks.
will do and I thank you sir

Fantastic review, thanks!
I thank you Kyle
I’ve never personally used anything in the atomic line. But from the prices I’ve seen, and videos watched, thr atomic is that middle man. A step above dewalts standard brushless, but still having that affordable price point of a homeowner level tool with semi professional performance
The atomic line is a great line to get into.
It depends on the type of job I think. I’d want the atomic as my main work horse because it’s lighter and more compact which helps your arm from getting tired. I’m hanging joists for my storage shed loft which means tighter spaces and having to hold the drill upright to get the screws in. I much prefer the atomic for that. However once I start screwing the plywood down the XR might be better because I’m pushing down and have more clearance. I think for most regular jobs the atomic is what I prefer. It’s nice to have the power of an XR but you pay for it with weight and size. If you don’t need the extra power then it’s not worth it. Smaller and lighter is better in my opinion.
Just found your chanel today and im hooked. Think you could do a flexvolt skillsaw vs the wormdrive one? Or even any flexvolt vs the xr saw? Would be great, thanks!
Pleny of videos are coming up and thank you for joining us and stepping by 5:30 pm
just got my atomic today:) hopefully it’ll do me good till i can upgrade
I have both tools. Even tho the XR has a ton more power I usually keep it on speed 2. Which makes about the same as the Atomic.
I love the atomic line and I thank you craft addict
Why do you have both and which one do you use the most?
Same
I've had 2 of the xr models and they both struggled with 'intermittent power' almost like a slipping clutch
we will see how long these tools last on my channel and I thank you for viewing
I just got the atomic set I'll just be installing garage doors with it so it should be fine. I'll never be using lags that large
Great test I have been firm believer in the dewalt XR versus that dam home use stuff Home Depot an Lowe’s sale even though now they carry the XR stuff but for them lag bolts I wouldn’t even use my impact driver I would use my 1/2 inch drive impact if it would fit in the location to run the bolts ass needed but you have to be careful that damn impact will break wheel studs off or twist bolts in half if they hit something hard lol
will do and I thank you dustin
Nice tools wish I had
Nice test and I like the camera placement. My question here is why would a 4ah battery give any extra “boost”? (10:40) the voltage is the power, the amp hour is the duration.
More AH means more battery cells what usually translate into lower voltage drop at high loads.
Lukasz is correct
Thank you for answering that for me
The dcf887 might burn up on you especially with that VCG gear on those 2 dont mix. Lol jk great video
lol I thank you sir
Amazing video. Thank you
I thank you Pat
Not too shabby, not too shabby at allll
lol
Canadian DeWalt models both Impacts are the same size height etc the DCF887 has a extra gear hands down the best on the market
XR a monster drill I like it !
very good and thank you Omar
thanks for the videos. Do you happen to have any videos comparing the atomic brushless to the regular 20-volt max brushed? Any opinions on the 2?
I do not, brushless vs brushed isnt a good video because the brushed tools are week
@@ManCaverTools What about a video of the Atomic Brushless VS the Max Brushless (The NON XR version).
Good video. Although; do most people use the 4ah batteries? Also; was the battery on the atomic older or exposed to a lot more heat or cold?
2ah and 4ah are what is mainly put in kits
Those are good lightweight easy to handle tools
Yes they are and im glad I have both, tHank you for viewing
wow both great
power eater Atomic XR really awesome as always
the Xr is a good one
@@ManCaverTools Ya I work with the XR
Outstanding ...Love it's power..
Sob. I just bought an atomic impact, jumped ship from Makita after 10 years of faithful use. Was wondering what the difference was but I like the compactness of the atomic. It’s been working fine for mixed duty automotive and home use. But REALLY good to. Know that flex vol pt battery made a difference because I did pick up a flex volt blower too. 🤘🏻
I thank you for viewing Bayer
Thanks for putting this together. Was looking to get a new drill(as mine just took a dump on me)for my studio desk/building shit projects, and the Atomics are on sale for $100 at HD right now. So checking around to see if I need to get a Dewalt, which ones better, and if I should get cheaper Ryobi with a circ saw/handsaw for the same price(already have decent 12" Miter box with good blade on it). U from Chitown?
I do live in Illinois, and you are welcome sir
Cool i love your video !!
I thank you Sir
All DeWalt auto-volt. 110/220 volts. Were using 220 volts here in the philippines.thanks

... little off topic, but it looks like you have enough Dewalt kit there to be able to answer the question, is the all the 18V batteries interchangeable between the units ?
2nd part... does the 20 batteries work, and fit onto the 18V XR range ?
you will beed an adaptor for the older tools that have a stem.
Drilling in the Pith, Center of the log is substantially weaker than outer rings. cut a log length wise and drill thru that. That would be a fair test. Cheers.
I dont use logs anymore, this is an old video
Fuel vs xr is the brands contractors grade tools my shops full of the fuel and we love the 9-12ah batteries

@@ManCaverTools I actually watch the comparison video of Milwaukee impact and dealt was impressed with the Milwaukee. Went to Home Depot and the Milwaukee rep was there. Now I own the the 5.0ah impact a hammer drill, sawzall, and got the 18ga. Brad nailer. Thanks a lot.😜
Luv my XR, great choice
Dewalt XR.
Why is it that both tools seemed to fail when using speed to over speed 1? I thought speed 2 was suppose to be faster/better for drilling?

My non brushless dewalt stuff has been going strong for so long Felt like I should upgrade got a good deal on a atomic kit (impact and hammer drill 2 batteries and charger) for 165$ im really thinking I should just spend the extra 100-150$ an get the xr?

Awesome! =) Which makita adapter for 6' did you use?
it was the one with the diamond shaped head
I got the dcf887 the dcf 787 and the dcf 801 and there all great for what there meant for
I’m not a dewalt fan. But I really do like your channel.
I’ve heard a lot about the dewalt atomic burning up. It seems like a poorly made over priced door stop. I don’t remember there ever being videos made by Ryobi fan boys saying don’t buy this Ryobi ______. It sucks and will burn up on you. - like the videos about the atomic 887
Although I did buy a dewalt 12v extreme drill cause (I’m pretty sure) you did a video on it.
I say how it is. if a tools burns up on a test I say don't get it, there are better options out there that won't burn up this easliy. Even if its Ryobi
Ryobi Man Caver I just remember dewalt (specifically) having issues with the atomic impact. And I think VCG Construction put out a video saying don’t use the flex volt batteries in the 20v tools cause they burn up. They cut a dewalt recip saw in half after they burned it up. I guess they weren’t too happy with the performance.
I love your reviews because I feel like you give everything a fair shake. And if something sucks you don’t hesitate to say it or make excuses for the tool sucking. I remember you did a video calling out a couple of Ryobi tools for sucking.
Billy bob Smith I think you’ve got the dewalt tools mixed up here. The 887 was the one burning up and the 887 is the XR. The dewalt 887 is not atomic. The videos of the ones burning up were the 887XR, not the atomic
I want to buy one of these screwdriver guns for my husband for Father’s Day but I don’t know which one 😣 the one that he has the battery doesn’t charge anymore. He is not a craft man he only uses it when something needs to be fix around the house. Which one do you think I should buy for him? Thanks for the video.
not sure if you need a drill or an impact driver. but what id do is make sure its a Brushless motor
Home Depot has a deal right now for an atomic drill, 2 batteries, charger and bag for $99. I just bought one and love it. Might be on amazon as well.
Why didn't you compare the atomic 850 with the same three speed selector. I feel it would have been a better comparison.
They have them at Home Depot on sale with a 5amp battery for $129
they have some good deals right now

Were both batteries brand new, at the same temperature, and able to hold the exact same capacity? Unless you did a detailed battery diagnostic ahead of time the only fair way to compare the two impact drivers head to head would be to run the exact same tests but with the same two batteries swapped (recharged of course) and then average the time each test took.
this is real world testing. I thank you for viewing Rob
Man is Cold out there you need a heater garage ,stay warm bro great content I also enjoy atomic so far

Does your atomic get really hot, mine does just wondering?
I use the Atomic line hammer drill. For the price and the compact design. It's perfect for most drilling tasks. Good clutch for delicate tasks such as installing door locks. Compact enough to use it for car detailing with a drill brush. It's no where near as powerful as the $300 XR hammer drills with the metal gearbox, metal chuck, etc. You can feel the quality difference. It still has it's uses for the $150 price point. I have no complaints. It has paid for itself with the money it has made me. Belt hook is great on ladders. Good choice for dual carry with holsters when you need two guns on a ladder to save time.
I see that it's very cold in your garage do you keep your batteries there if so does it affect the life or performance of the batteries?
I keep my batteries in doors due to winter. I have them originized in its own brand bag with a charger.
ZachShop very cold temperatures will decrease a batteries run time. However the good news is just warm them up and they will regain. I personally would not recommend leaving them in extremely cold areas for long periods tho.
@@jamesfair9751 yup ,room temperature is the best for these batteries

For the big lags, I would have slapped a battery on the DCF899 and be done with it! Very similar/identical tools with different software.
I own the dcf887 and the dcf899.
the atomic did it very Weill the 6ah. major power boost
It's meant for everything but commercial framing. I'll take a little less power for less weight and more real-estate in my tool pouch being a commercial technician.
I do agree that power isnt everything and I thank you for viewing Experience
I'll take my Dewalt 12V Xtreme over that Atomic all day , it has almost as much power in a smaller / lighter package . Watch VCG's video on the Xtreme vs Atomic. I also have the XR and its a BEAST , I usually only use it on decks and stuff and I usually use it on #2 because #3 can be a bit hard to control , it just wants to bury the screws all the time...✌ Be Safe....😷
very good and I thank you Brian and be safe
And now I am subscribing
I thank you Blunts. plenty of videos to watch and more are coming
Is the XR better because it has a 3 speed switch, as opposed to the variable speed trigger on the automatic? It's interesting to learn how much difference the different batteries make to the power output. Good video, thanks.

I think the DCF809 is just underpowered for what it’s supposed to be. I personally don’t own the 809. I use the DCF887, which, in my opinion, is just better, regardless of the issues this model has had in other tool test videos.

I have had DeWalt 20v XR stuff since 2014. I used and abused my 886 impact daily for all that time, and finally the trigger started acting up. I loved it the whole time but didn't invest further in DeWalt because I feel like they're not innovating or improving their designs. The head/top of the impact drivers are the same size as they were in 2014, and the newer models like the 887 have been known to burn up under heavy use. I ended up getting a Makita xdt14 to replace the 886, it's tiny and has more torque and even better modulation of the trigger. I really think DeWalt needs to step and give us more compact, and more torque in impact drivers especially, as the high speed/low torque combination isn't ideal for larger fasteners. I would argue that they were the best 2013/14 had to offer but it's been a long time.. Any thoughts?
Makita is a good brand as well. and I thank you for viewing Master
I use the Dewalt 1/4" impact to pull the spark plugs on the Ford engine that breaks the plugs in the block.
