People who know drummer Steve Smith from Journey probally don't realize he was trained in jazz at Berklee in Boston and is really at his best in the Jazz/Fusion environment. What a solid drummer.

Well, he was Jean-Luc Ponty's "Enigmatic Ocean" album a few years before he joined Journey. However, I do think most people know this about Smith, and, many people way after the "Simon Phillips", "Terry Bozzio" and "Dennis Chambers" eras have no idea..., even though Simon, Terry and Steve all played within the same era.

    1曲目のBeirut(ベイルート)は何度聴いても圧巻です。

The greatest Modern Jazz/Fusion guitarist in the world. I mean, he's played with two of the biggest legends in instrumental music; Miles Davis and Michael Brecker. Although he has other excellent guitarists in this style with their own language, such as Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, Allan Holdsworth. In addition to playing and improvising masterfully, Mike Stern also has an absurd charisma.

So much happening with this concert. Really playing off each other and then there’s Michael... so exceptional in so many ways. Damn, I miss him. So grateful for videos like this. Thank you!!

This is the concert that I heard about 14 years ago,and still can't get over, how magical, beautiful, skilfully it is. All musicians separately are just top! I enjoy very much every time I hear it! Also still very much sorry that Mr. Brecker has gone. Great loss for music, and his family!

Synth timbre timestamping the of era notwithstanding, the high level musicianship is timeless. Brecker RIP!

A tremendous concert!! Fusion at the highest level! For me, maybe the best fusion band after Weather Report ... My favourite guitarist Mike Stern, even it is not the focal point, in a very solid sideman performance...

Everytime I hear Beirut I feel it is a song from the future, but these fucking guys played it 35 years ago! Mike Manieri is a true musical genius and knows how to circle himself with others of his kind in other instruments...
