- ( www.TFLtruck.com ) 2015 Ram ProMaster City Van is the newest van to take on the American, European and Asian competition. In this TFLTruck highway MPG test Andre and Nathan drive the 2015 Ram ProMaster City from Phoenix to Flagstaff AZ to see what sort of Highway MPH the new van will get in the American Desert west.

I drive a Promaster City and during 2000km normal driving (no hypermiling or racing) mixed city and highway I get 27 MPG. On highway trips I get 31 MPG driving 65 miles per hour on flat land. Bought it as Promaster City is one of a few small vans that has a bulkhead that separates the drivers compartment from the cargo so that in my case the whole van doesn’t continue to smell after gasoline after transporting equipment and it has a nice low loading hight too.
Hopefully you'll be able to test the Chevrolet City Van as well...
Can some one weigh in on the ZF 9 speed? I haven't heard anything good about it. Is it getting better?
Can you guys review the 2018 promaster city slt vs 2018 Ford xlt transit connect long wheel base please.. I have been waiting for the comparison for a long time. Plz help
Respectable mpg considering Phoenix to Flagstaff (Rt 17) is basically straight up hill all the way..
Mark S Ike Gauntlet - the long edition.
And the speed limit is 75
Anyone have this van? How’s it be so far? Looking at a 2015 with 95km but want to know what I’m getting into first before buying it?
How’s yall experience with them?
24MPG with no cargo. what is the MPG fully loaded?
20 at best. My testing is real world 30k as a 2015 work van. All I can say is, Its Crap! I had one of these for my work van. company payed for everything so that's all cool. BUT its a Fiat, not a Ram. The 9 speed is so bad ! it never can make up its mind! It also is crap for MPGs mixed 21mpg. I also had several break downs in 30k.is it "quick!" NO, A 2005 corolla has more go juice! the Only good thing I can say, its good for putting stuff in! But thats about all it does good. HATED driving that van, but if was free so whatever. Also NOTE if you'er over 6' don't buy the van with the cage you will not fit! My sum up ITS a POS shop other vans.
I personally like a knob you can adjust it infinitively compared to a lever you have to put it were the gears mech so not as precise and a other point it is not as safe let say that you press on the gas at the same time adjusting the seat back with a lever style adjustment the back of the seat could go too far and the driver could loose control this is why I think that European manufactures go with the knob arrangement .
I prefer the lever because it's much faster and more comfortable to use. I've occasionally found a car where the different teeth were too far apart and there was no good position, but usually you get pretty fine control. With the knob system, it's inevitably shoved up against the B pillar with the seatbelt playing defense. The company I work for has a couple Sprinters and I hate jamming my hand back there and wrenching on that thing about 40 rotations to get the seat back out of meerkat mode where one of our other drivers always puts it. In the big dumb 4mpg V-10 Ford vans, you pull the lever that's well forward, lean back where you want, and you're done.
This is just a Fiat Doblo/Opel Combo with a different name.
The Tree sure but here in Denmark Doblò only has 90HK !!!
The Tree Well, Fiat does own the Ram brand...
I just filled my 93 S10 Blazer up with fuel today. My suv got 28.07 mpg. This is a mix between city and highway driving. On the highway I get over 30 mpg. I am in south Florida with temps in the mid to high 90s.
scrimmy6969 Thats not even possible. I drive an 02. Unless its a 2WD and a 2.8 with a manual I can't see it.
tytotheler92 That's not possible because you cannot accomplish it?? In the winter time I get even better mileage. Best mileage I got was 42 MPG. It can be done. Sorry you are to uneducated to do it.
scrimmy6969 Nice.
Dude the EPA rates these at 15/20. Whatever you're doing must be magical.
tytotheler92 I will do a video of the truck. In the video I will also do what FLT does. Nothing magical at all. Off the shelf parts that work together. Check out my Facebook page. ZR2 and S10 Parts
tytotheler92 no i had the 2.8...it gets at best 19.5...must be the 2.2 multiport
The only vehicle in that segment that actually looks kinda decent is the Ford Transit. Everything else (especially the Nissan) just looks ugly.
I think the Ford is sportier to drive also lol.
***** The Honda Odyssey is a van but is it sporty to drive? Yes. It doesn't all sound right but it is what it is.
It has the same design with Fiat Doblo but yeah,
they have different motor powers.
Eshabı Ferit Girici It is rebranded Fiat Doblo for american market, same as ProMaster is Ducato with some changes, mostly in interior.
AdrianoCROST And with 2X on hp and gears
Well since we dont have those here in the US, there is no reason to mention it
It needs to come with the v6 from the caravan! not enough power to use as a cargo van.
It has almost as much horsepower as a big Sprinter 3500 dually (that has 181hp). I've taken 14 passengers with luggage over the Cascade Range in one of those, and it's done the job. For the Promaster City which is closer in size to a Honda Accord, it's plenty. Maybe it'll have to downshift on a hill - oh the horror. You might not be able to drag race an S2000 with it like the Caravan could, but mileage matters more to the bottom line of a business.
I much prefer twiddling a knob rather than yanking a lever.
UniversityOfTurmoil Enough with the innuendos, okay? Damn... lol
24 mpg! ! ! ! The european version with the diesel (I don't even think you can get a petrol version over here) would double that. Why don't you have them over there? forgive me if this has already been asked/answered. Just seems nuts to me that they ship engines and gearboxes to Europe so they can bolt them into a European van when the engines they already have in them return better MPG.
Carine Walker They don't have any diesels for that chassis that are federalized for sale in the US. Diesels are fairly rare here for a variety of reasons. That said, they have a new diesel in development that is very likely to be offered here in the future. It will help that the upcoming EU diesel emissions will essentially match those of the US. A diesel would serve commercial customers well in one of these vans.
Americans seem to have an aversion to diesel. My European box has a 2 stage turbocharger, twin cam 4 valves per cylinder and returns 40 mpg US. BUT it is a diesel......Oh and 3000 litres and 5 seats.
1guyin10It is also diffficult to find diesel 2, the higher quality version.
1guyin10 oh yes of course I've totally overlooked the emissions issue! It's always made me wonder though, we have euro 5 at the moment, not sure what the measurements or readings are, but as a whole, European vehicles use less fuel and have or are allowed high emissions. whereas US vehicles put out less emissions but use more fuel. Always baffled that has! Lol
Carine WalkerWe are up to Euro 6 soon.
DO NOT BUY! My testing is real world 30k as a 2015 work van. All I can say is, Its Crap! I had one of these for my work van. company payed for everything so that's all cool. BUT its a Fiat, not a Ram. The 9 speed is so bad ! it never can make up its mind! It also is crap for MPGs mixed 21mpg full of tools and stuff. I also had several break downs in 30k.is it "quick!" NO, A 2005 corolla has more go juice! the Only good thing I can say, its good for putting stuff in! But thats about all it does good. HATED driving that van, but if was free so whatever. That mpg isnt impressive at all. The dodge caravan v6 can get that easy
i did that same route in my 03 tacoma with my dirt bike and camping gear got the same mileage and the 2014 f150 5.0 got 18.7 pulling a car trailer and the same dirt bike and gear so im going to have to give the ram my pfffft rating which means...not impressed
R to the A to the M...
Propaganda!
