Price : $83
Weight : 1.1lbs
The Skrama, which is made in Finland and available only from Varusteleka, is designed to be an all-around wilderness blade for campers, bushcrafters, woodsmen etc.
While I was trying out different grips, I noticed that the balance point lies right where the handle starts. This makes it easier to do finer cutting tasks, despite the large overall size of the knife.
The Skrama is a heavy, long blade bush knife for wilderness use - a tool that chops firewood and whittles up some tinder too! If you're taking just one knife into the bush, let it be this. This is the complete package with leather sheath included.
Skrama - as in Scramasax or Seax, a short, single edged sword popular in the Middle Ages. Much like the Scandinavian Leuku it doubles up as a tool and weapon.
Blade length: 240 mm, width 46 mm, thickness 4 mm.
Edge angle: 25° at the root for whittling, the rest of the blade is sharpened to 34° for heavy duty chopping.
Full length: 430 mm.
Blade material: Carbon steel 80CrV2, 59 HRC
Grip: Moulded rubber, rough texture for a good grip.
Weight (without sheath): 525 g. 18.5oz

Nice to see Finnish products in your channel!
Its basically modern version of middle/northern European skramasaks. Wonderful knife.
I did some science and compared this and fiskars x7. This cut birch a trunk in half two times faster than the x7. It definitely can replace a small axe.
Hell yeah, that's what I'm saying, I'm probably going to get the 200mm skrama too as a backup. The 240mm gives you more chopping power though.
my favourite knife, i carry this always when im in the wilderness, i dont mind having to take good care of it because i do it anyways and every1 else should too.
Just got my knife from Finland. Wow what a knife. It looks like a great knife. The only modifications that I have made to it is to grind the spine with my belt sander to give it a sharp edge for my ferro rod or to use as a sticker on flint. Can't wait to get out on the trail and put it to work. Thanks for turning me on to this monster knife. WOW
New model has that sharp spine now. :) Gotta love that knife.
I did a review on it on one of the knife forums. Your video sums up nicely what I found. I keep smiling when using mine, you just can't help it. For a thinking man's golock these Skramas do need a wider audience because for the price they are a no brainer. A lot of outdoors people could find a use for one of these, and best bit don't have to sell a kidney. They are ingenious especially the neutral balance with the forward grip. Just great.
Some candlewax will waterproof the steel. I made a toggle safety catch that goes through the top ring for extra extra security when on the pack.
Anyhow, I'm a convert to the Skrama; big fan. I also enjoy your videos, so keep up the good work.
IMHO, This is the best thing to have with you when down the woods,, so versatile for many many applications,, I highly recommend this blade.. also, a great review, thanks,
Best military shop in the world.
Great to see a review of something most others will probably never review! Way to set yourself apart from the crowd! Keep these types of review coming!
I paid $117 for mine less than a year ago and I thought that was a bargain! Now it's a super deal!
Ooh, I noticed the Jääkäri bag in the video! looking forward for the review!
You pointed out the thing that I think makes it so good: The long handle allows you to move back and get leverage, while it also makes the knife balanced despite the long blade.
very nice working blade. sort of a modern take on a leuku. thank you for sharing
Now that's a brush knife!! Thank you for letting us know about this tool!
Sure thing Scott. It's an awesome blade!
- Luke
Luke, I ordered the Skrama and 110 last Tuesday, how did the tracking work on your order? I have been looking but no update since it left the country. Thank you for turning me on to wherestheliquor.com!
@Ryan Boswood back then it wasn't very informative! I ordered the above knives they went across the USA (way past me) then circled back lol. I have made orders since then with very fast shipping! Awesome quality including their line of sewed goods.
Awesome Luke! Yes, it is one heck of a blade. Got mine from the first production run couple years ago.Despite the size i have even fillet a salmon boneless with it. They have had it as stainless as well. Also with Kydex sheath and there is a molle sheath for it too. Great review! Big thumbs up!
That is a cool blade my friend! I guess it is a take on the scramasax, the long weapon knife from the viking age. You shouldn't worry to much about the pronunciation, it does not sound all that pretty when the Finns say the words either :)
Thanks a lot for the review - Martin
I agree on that. The Finns sure knows their gear. I have both Norwegian, Swedish and Finnish knives and they all come from the same tradition.
All hail us northeners! Greetings from Finland! I love Sweden's snus, it's a gift to the world.
Rough pronounciation key for varusteleka:
Vahr-uh-step(without p) leg(without g)-kah
Literally it's "equipment sledge"
Better translation would be Gearhammer.
@@jokumukamikalie nope, i know the guys from varusteleka said that, but equipment sledge is better translation.
I'm getting started with hiking and so far I like the sport allot. And these reviews you give are really handy and simpel. Thx man keep up the work!
I was waiting for you to test this. Finally! :D
Very nice blade !! Hope to see it in more videos !
Cool blade Luke! Im not really into big knives but this looks awesome.
Where's the liquor.com :D Hilarious way to remember web shop name and not so far-fetched either since they sell beer (and have a small pub) in their store at Helsinki (in case you ever visit finland).
Now this is one bad ass blade. Great video and I definitely want one.
i boughyt a couple of these and a couple of Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140 they are gonna make a great superhero and sidekick....great video man !!!
The Skrama sure is a home run. Nice to see that it's getting international attention.
Their website really is a blast. Very non-PC humour, they've made our local social justice warriors cru many times. Like selling a Yugoslav army beret as "genocide headgear", making swastika-shaped gingerbread, homoerotic ads, praising anything made in Germany, etc. Go and have a look!
Finnish mil gear is NOT surplus there. It's mil spec, but made by their own Särmä brand or by contractors such as Savotta.
I got the Jääkäripuukko from them & i love that knife! It was only 64.00 u.s. w/shiping. I gotta say that the sheaths alone should cost that much that's
how good & well made they are. I think i'm going to have to get the Skrama Bush Knife as well, great video & review thanks again Luke.
Perhaps not a state of the art plasma-cooker from outer space, but virtually indestructible, Yes awesome descripts on that site.
I have this, it is really workman like in appearance but a solid knife, I bought it from your new favourite shop when I got my French Army goretex jacket (another great piece of gear).
Lol Luke and his new lightsaber :-).......another great review and am ordering one soon!!
I love mine! it has replaced my Busse as my big knife in my kit!
Very nice review, as always. I must have this...or the 200. But probably this one.
These blades really are no bullshit an for the money, definitely worth it.
Best, most durable, most versatile, "survival" cutting tool on the market for the price. This, a Silky Big Boy, and a $20 Mora, will get you through just about any challenge in the forest. I found a way to use the hole in the blade and turn the thing into a draw knife. Crazy great tool
Nice review! I have one and it is awesome. Great price on it
smart review, looks similar to a tanto, thanks for the video
Hi +TheOutdoorGearReview, thanks a lot for this review. Thanks a lot also for using metric units instead of imperial ones, as I am French, I am not very familiar with those ones. Enjoy!!
After the knife is clean and dry spray it down with some Birchwood Casey Barricade which is amazing for preventing rust. It is a wax suspended in a carrier. Highly recommended!
Seems everyone likes this blade but Living survival and PM1O1. I think its a good looking blade, I'd def strap this to my pack
I bought the smaller one and it’s perfect!
Traditionally a scandinavian longknife isnt ment to be mounted on the side/thigh. But across the front of your waist.
I have mine on the side of my Moll-e pack too though ;)
Splendid review, as always. =^.^=
Any idea the length of time from when I order to when I should expect this product? I live in Louisville, Kentucky. ...Gr8 informative video btw! 👍
This has replaced my big knife and my hatchet. A saw, this bad boy, and a small swiss army knife is all i take with me now. May be there are better choppers out there, but sure not for this money. Some of them big choppers of tops may come to mind, but for what they cost, i buy skramas for the whole family, including the dog and the neighbor...
Should've gotten the standard plastic sheath bro. The leather sheath is more than half the cost of the blade.
I love mine.
Nice, Good n Cheap!
very nice knife . have you tried an ontario sp8 yet ? I am heading to wheres the liqour now to blow my paycheck ... thanks again for showing me more stuff that " I cant live without " lol
Thank u
I realize this video is a few years old, but do you still have the Skrama? What are your thoughts after more prolonged use? If you still have it... would you sell it?? Thanks for any input?
Hi Luke, I´m waiting of my Skrama, it´s in restock again. I would like to see a battle between the Skrama and the Silky Nata 240 . I got the Silky Ono too, it´s also a great chopper but no machete. Do you heard about it ? I´m not shure which of both I should by. Do you know somebody who testet them out or can you tell me something about it ? Greets from germany. Rob
Varusteleka=GearHammer
nice
How long did it take to receive the knife after purchasing it?
Hi! Luke, can I have your permission to add this review-video to my Varusteleka-related Facebook group?
Costs even less now!
Would love to see someone do a skrama in S90V or one of those super steels like elmax. Very nice. There is a stainless version on their website as well (4110/X55CrMo14 stainless).
I'd like one........but I can't figure out what I'd do with it.
that knife looks like something out of a serial killer movie.
Serial killer would get bored with that - one chop, one crop - unless one likes to make stew size bits... LOL
I want one. Goodness...
Say Heah Luke, What's Up, Bro. I have a serious question. I only pay by personal checks. Most companies know me so there's no problem paying with my method. But it's not that easy to buy a Skrama for me. So the $64,000.00 question. Do you think the Skrama is that much better than the Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang. How would you rate the 80CrV2 to a 1095 CroVan. Infact I have (2) Parangatang's, one in a Black Handle that fits from the ZT Series, they are the same so they interchange. But I don't have a 80CrV2 blade. I read it's similar to L6 which I have a BHK Mad Hatter Machete that I had costomixed at BHK, it came out very nice and now matches my BHK Modified Attitude Knife, a lovely piece of kit. So your input would be greatly appriciated. Thanx You in Advance. Dilly Dilly.,,.p
How do you find all this cool non US gear Luke?
Luke, I really liked the look of the Skrama so I went to the site and found one for only $59 with a plastic sheath. All went well with ordering until I got to paying where I was asked to chose a bank. There was a large problem with that because the bank info was NOT in english. My order stopped there because I had no idea what they were asking, most likely in Finish. You might say Finish finished me. Thanks anyway.
They take paypal now; don't give up they are worth it. With exchange rate they should be even less now.
👍👍👍
This (or its stainless counterpart) would make an awesome trunk/truck knife. Throw some gun oil over the blade and it should be pretty well protected for a while.
Just ordered mine... I got the molle sheath tho'....
You should buy M05 camo clothes and test them
I want one... I need one... $86??? I'm getting one...
🇫🇮👍
u spelled that site so funny:DDD (im finnish)
+Ed Thomas jag är finlandsvensk :D dvs jag bor i finland
Where's the liquor .com cracked me up.
i ment prouounced :D
I just paid $69 for one and $4.99 for the military frog sheath.
Terävä=Sharp
You can't be a proper Saxon without a skramasax
4:38 right as everything should be
haha love y'all americans do your thing and keep up the good work haha
85$
$129
$80
wow so close
Dude, terävä means sharp. So just Skrama😅 But Jeah, Varusteleka is the Best.
Jouni R Yes, terävä does mean sharp, but it is also the name of Varustelekas knife brand. So yeah it is the Terävä Skrama.
Nice blade but Jess X is only 53 dollars and tough as nails it seems
i ordered the diy handle version with the plastic sheath . 52.00 including shipping . ordered it yesterday . less than 24 hours and its already on its way across the ocean to me
piece of junk the jizz x is
after it sat in customs for a few days . I finally got it . I did A quick para cord wrap on the handle and I like it quite A bit so far . took it out in the woods and beat the hell out of it . it was damn sharp out of the box and it still is after all that
Eric McNeil
why would you say that? have you seen the many videos on it getting the crap beat out of it. its very tough
That's what she said.... ;'))
Vah RUHZTE LICA
Well color me stupid for not seeing this in your videos.
shud compare this knife with others in price range or whatever?
100$
God help the Burglar , Thats all I have to say !
Awesome ;)
It's looks like it's orientated for left hand carry the... sheath atleast
I was thinking $40
no way that wouldve been possible in a chunk of 80crv2 that big with a leather and kydex combo sheath
Dude we learn English, so learn to pronounce other languages. But I do admit this is a really difficult.
That’s a silly motivation for learning to pronounce other language’s words correctly. You don’t learn English because English speaking countries force you to, you learn it because it has become the international language and you learn it in school. Other languages are have not, and people should not feel pressured to learn correct pronunciation just because English is international. In fact, I promise you that there are English words you mispronounce all the time in your country.
Goblin cant say varusteleka right :-D
Hey now, you're not a Goblin! We accept you for who you are.
- Luke
I use frog lube to coat my puukko knife from Finland, works great, no rust after I dipped it in vinegar cause I forgot to wipe blade down,so afterwards I did,no problems since,it's biodegradable also nontoxic too,it got it off knife center dot com.
