Terävä Skrama Bush Knife - A Chopping Beast That Carves

- Finally got out to film some field use testing of the Terävä Skrama Bush Knife from Varusteleka.com. I know some of you out there were really interested in this knife and wanted to see it so I hope this video helps you decide if this is a knife you would like to own.
What a versatile big bladed knife this is. I said it in the video and meant it, this knife is a BEAST. I used it on and off for six hours prior to filming this and it performed very well chopping down small trees and trimming branches. It is very well balanced for it's size (which I wish I'd shown in the video) and the design of the handle allows for multiple hand holds. Choke up to do those finer detail wood carving tasks. Choke back on it to unleash the Beast and do some heavy action chopping. The dual edge grinds are a smart and effective design and as shown, both perform great.
IMO, If you pair this knife with a Jääkäripuukko 110 (or 140), they'd be a companion set that could compete with any other combination out there. These Terävä knives from Varusteleka.com are a big hit in my book and I will continue to use and abuse these knives for many years to come.
Get yourself a Terävä knife, you won't regret it.

I saw many Skrama-Videos on youtube, but this is the best 🙂, because it shows also carving in a detailed way; other videos shows it only short or not, show only chopping.
Only the chopping of the living tree I find not good.
Greetings
Christian 🙂
Excellent review of my favorite knife series. I have the Skrama, actually several, and a couple of the pukkos also. They simply can't be beat for quality, edge, toughness and VALUE!
I agree. Excellent quality and value on the entire Terävä line. Thank you for watching and commenting.
sameold77 Roger that brother!
Man , I don’t know what’s going on with these but I literally got the last knife in stock! I checked al lot of shops too, so I feel fortunate. I am Finnish and intend on having it replace my Svord Golok (still a excellent chopper, I just wanted a Finn for the heritage). Thanks for the video! (Though my wife may not be too happy...)
Varusteleka orders these to be made in batches. They come and go fast, all of their Terävä knives sell fast. You have to submit your email for when they get back in stock and then jump on them when they do. I just received their Terävä Mini Skrama and Mini Puuko knives with the rubber handle scales, they're very nice. Thanks for watching and you will love the Skrama when you get it.
Geez. Now that's a monster. A monster with finesse.
It's a heckuva tool. Thanks for watching Tim, and for commenting.
That is impressive for sure. Loving mine as well. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Mark. These Terava knives are impressive.
Great review one of the best I have ever seen you cover everything that's important in my opinion....another knife that's gonna be added to my collection
Thank you. It's worth buying
OMG That is a beast! WOW! Really great knife for sure!
Yes it is a Beast. I used it again this past weekend and after carrying it on my hip now for over 10 hours with the 110 and a Hidden Woodsmen Belt Pouch containing my Ratcheting Pruners it was not too big for hip carry imo. I was even able to tuck the sheath into my cargo pocket which worked out well. I love the combination with the 110 or 140. Thanks for stopping by Dawn, hope you've been well.
Love that thing. Thanks for showing us.
Thank you for stopping by and commenting. The Skrama is a Beast and the dual edge, overall comfort, balance and maneuverability impressed me.
Hey U have the Skrama 👍
Thank U for showing and Testing it...
Hope i'll get my one soon
Love Ur Test Videos👍👍👍
Greetings from Vienna Austria SAS
Yes I do. Plus every other Terava knife that they make. I really like them all. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Great video and review. Thanks for sharing. Can't wait to get my hands on the Skrama. Seems like a versatile field knife for the finer stuff, and a heck of a chopper! Just received an email from Varusteleka within the last 30 minutes that they have 97 of the carbon steel Skrama in stock. The ones with the leather sheath, however, are still out of stock, unfortunately. Thanks again, and I've subbed to your channel.
I am very pleased with this knife and the dual grind makes it much more functional than just a big chopper. Varusteleka sells out of them pretty fast as well as the 110 and 140. When you get one, I'll be looking for your review to see how you like it. Thanks for the sub and commenting.
nice item a beast for sure. did a great job testing this item
Thank you for watching and commenting.
Looks nice!
Appreciate you stopping by.
Nice knife. Thank you for the video
Yet it is. Thank you for watching.
80crV2 is some incredibly tough steel...like 5160 on steroids....gotta get me some !!
Looks solid. Nice collection your making now on them
It is definitely solid. I really like the blade design with the slight curve and that Seax styling. The fact that it can carve pretty well makes it versatile. They're coming out with a couple new knives at the end of the year, one is a smaller version of this Skrama, the collection can grow. Thanks Chris.
I took a shot and ordered the 140 and 110. Can't say enough good things about them! Tough, great steel, comfortable and fairly priced. I am thinking about grabbing the full size Skrama next.
Don't think about it. Go buy a Skrama now, with the sheath. You will not regret it. Thanks for watching.
Good test. I like the grind.
Thanks for checking it out Nathan.
WOW !!!
Cuts Wood like Butter
Its awesome 👍👍👍
The Skrama is a very nice big knife. It really is a Beast. Hope you get one, you'll love it. Thanks again.
Looks like a good chopper, not sure about the steel though I don't have anything made out of it. Cool vid.
From what I've used of the steel I like it so far. Thanks for checking it out Rob.
House boat Rob 80crv2 is almost a super high carbon steel. Like a combo of L2 and 5160. Edge retention is superb and its tough as hell. Differentially heat treated.
mine is super durable.

I have it and it is a beast!
Then you know the power it holds.
Bought two of these, one for me and my girl. Next looks like the puukko , great website to.
Don't forget the mini Skrama and Mini Puuko. I've got those and they are good little knives. Thanks for watching. .
great blade looks great for field use atb .......tom
I plan to field use it a lot. Thank you for watching.
Great video. What is the smallest knife on the ground? Looks like it would go well with my Skrama and 110 combo.
That is the WoodsKnife Pikkumusta and it can be found here - www.lamnia.com/en/p/14465/kni... Thank you
that's sweet
It's a beast with finesse. Thanks for checking it out.
What's the steel like to sharpen? How long does it hold its edge? Do the dual grinds make it hard to sharpen? Nice vid 😊
I've only stopped it so far but I don't see the dual grind being an issue on a stone. Thanks for watching.
sameold77 Just got my skrama, works well so far
man I had to watch again! that's a beast think it would be a good zombie knife lol?😂😂
Thanks for the views. It should be in The Walking Dead, I'll just say that. You could choke back and really sling it.
sameold77 I love the walking dead! it has a butcher's knife look
Would you recommend the 110mm or the 140mm terävä? The 110mm restocks in a week or 2 but the 140mm is in stock
110 for me because it's a little easier to maneuver. Thanks
Yeah I waited and purchased that one, really happy with it
I just came across tour review of this Great Maker and the knives They Make. I have been collecting them all and I Now use the Company as My Favourite Maker . They also are a Military/ Hiking andCamping suppliers as well , Also the postal rate charge are very Competitive. Check Them out .
I have all of the knives made by Terava. The newest Mini Skrama and Mini Puukko are sweet. I have ordered a lot of other things from them too, I like the Sarma wool products. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video, although you posted it a long time ago. I’m tossed between this and the Skrama 200 - have you tried the 200? I have a Fiskars X5 hatchet (smallest in the line, but great for the kind of chopping one would do with the Skrama 240), so I can’t truly justify buying the Skrama 240, but I don’t own any big knife and I’m thinking the Skrama 200 might fit the “niche” spot between a hatchet and a regular sized blade. I once bought the Puukko 140 after drooling over it online, but I found that the size felt a little “off” compared to the 110 and it didn’t really fit the “big blade” category either, so I returned it (both, actually, as I was in my early twenties and needed the money at the time).
I do own the Skrama 200 and I really like it. It is better if you plan to carry on your belt, can do most of the work the larger brother can, and feels better in the hand for woodwork with it's handle. The 240 is my go to BIG blade but the 200 is the best fit for me in more real life usage in the woods. I get your point on the 140 length compared to the 110, you should have definitely kept the 110, I love that knife. Go ahead and pick up the Skrama 200, you will not be disappointed.
@@sameold77 Thank you for replying! You described exactly what I was looking for. I’ll likely buy the 110 again too.😊
I seriously can't find any info on this steel online....how does it compare in edge retention to something like 1095?
Other reviews i have seen online said the 80crv2 exceeds 1095 in edge retention and toughness. Some call it "CPM-3V lite" and "5160 on steroids". To top it off they run it at a hardness of 59 which is well above the base 55 hrc of most choppers. I believe it's also differentially heat treated and sharpened, which most custom knives don't even have !
Sameold, I ordered the Skrama and 110 last Tuesday, how did the tracking work on your order? I have been looking but no update since it left the country
I thought the email had a link but have no fear, all of my orders and my friends have arrived to the States in 7 to 8 days. Let me know what you think of the knives. Thanks for watching.
I'm guessing you got them. So what do you think?
Not yet! USPS got them at New York through customs and sent them to California, bypassing me entirely... They are on their way back now. No wonder the USPS is bankrupt. Thanks for asking! You have a new sub for sure, I'll let you know as soon as I get them. I just don't know if the Skrama can compete with my Junglas and GSO10!
A friend on the west coast had the same thing with USPS and then it showed up that day, maybe you'll get lucky for the weekend. I almost bought a Junglas a year ago but couldn't do it. Man I would like to try a GSO 10, that looks like such an awesome knife. Thanks for the sub.
They came in! US manufacturing should take notice. Thanks for the review, I'm thrilled.
That dog’s gonna get in trouble one day …
She is smart and stays out of my way. She loves it out there more than I do I think. Thanks
i want this chopper so bad! but i cant decide if i want the stainless or corbon version.
If you plan on using it in an environment where you know it could rust easily, then SS. Else, I recommend the Carbon Steel. Good luck in your quest and appreciate the view and comment.
I know this is old but if you havent gotten one go with the carbon. I live in a coastal swamp area and have no problems with any of my carbon steel knives. Just take care of them and they last
How did you end up with a product in Finland? Was it too far from you?
I am curious because I want to know how to get their product from other country?
The link to order the knife is in the description above. I ordered direct from Varusteleka.com which is a Finnish company. They are great to deal with and all of my orders have arrived in the States in 7 to 8 days. Thanks for watching.
How could you know about this company from the US? Sorry, I'm just a bit curious.
The internet is powerful, lol. I saw a video of the Skrama on CZcams this past winter and found their website. I wasn't really interested in this knife but I did see that they sold the Jaakaripukko 110 which looked more useful to me. I ordered the 110 first to see what the quality was like. Well, I was so impressed with the 110 that I ordered the 140 and this knife, the Skrama. Don't hesitate to order from them, they are a good company and their Terava brand knives are excellent.
+sameold77 thank you for your answer. Definitely buy from them soon!
Great knife it's a freaking zombie killer
How long did it take on shipping?
Under 10 days. Buy one, you'll love it. I've placed many orders with Varusteleka, good company. Thanks.
great review, makes my decision easier :-)
Glad it helped. All of the Terava knives are very well made. Thanks
What are the other knives in the background?
The top one is the Terävä Jääkäripuukko 140, middle one is the 110, and the bottom one is the Pikkumusta made by WoodsKnife, all from Finland. Check out my other videos on the Terävä Jääkäripuukko 110. Thanks for watching.
Say Heah, Good review, Thanx You. But I would like to see that Skrama vs. the Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Parangatang. Thanx You in Advance.,,.p
You send me the Ka-Bar and I'll let you know, lol. Thanks for watching.
sameold77 your the one that's in the bussiness of making videos, I'm just on the sideline, Dilly, Dilly.,,.p
please tell me how can I get this knife from India.
Varusteleka.com
Off topic but I have noticed that most of the popular "survival", wilderness, trekkers etc youtubers usually don't carry any kind of saw.
That is a good topic. I usually carry a folding saw, either a Silky Gomboy 240, a Bahco Laplander, or a Corona 10" saw. Those are my go to folding saws. If you look at my latest video of the Hidden Woodsmen Hunter's Haversack, you will see that I have a Laplander on the side of the Haversack. As for why you don't see them in most other's video's I don't know. Maybe they have them but don't show them. Appreciate you watching and commenting.
I have a Silky Bigboy 2000 XL, it's pretty awesome folding saw. And Skrama, great knife.
these look great. $$$ though
Not expensive considering what you'd get. Thanks for watching
terävä means sharp
Thanks for watching
Go to the website and see the new Terävä Mini Skrama.
I saw that, I've been watching and waiting for both of their new small knives, mini puukko and mini Skrama. I'm waiting on the completed models with sheath and I'll get them. Thanks for mentioning it and watching.
sameold77
Thank you much for the reply brother!
Just saying a tree is dead doesn't make it so till after you chop it down
I don't get it. I have many dead trees on my property that I have not chopped down. They're just dead but still standing. Thanks for watching.
73 USD I can make as god or better for less all I need is a belt sander and belts this is worth 25 usd and no more I dough its a forged blade just material reduction the piece of medal alone before any thing is done to it is only 3 dollars so how can it cost so much and they don't pay that much that's what it would cost me a home smith
Sir, why is it that every comment I ever see from you on any channel, it's always negative, or putting something down. And in this case you have no clue what you are talking about, BTW, it's you 'doubt' it's a forged blade and it's called 'metal'. You really think people want to hear you splurge your mouth about how good you are or what you can do. Stop talking it and actually do it. If you can make a knife and a sheath of this quality for the less than the price I paid, I'd buy it from you. But you can't and you won't, so I'll be buying another Terävä knife. Have a good day sir.
3 reasons why I don't 1 an arsonist destroyed all my smithing gear and haven't had the $$$ to replace enough to even think of trying 2 I live in town center to start making knives hear id have 500 screaming idjots calling cops in 5 min of me starting 3 no place to set a smithy up at last Blade I smithed was in 04 long before I ever herd of Y.T. and had no camera to shoot with as for knowing how well my point was msrp vs value they aint close apparently you don't care how over priced stuff has become I DO so I will continue to point this out and that any one wanting a blade CAN make their own if they have the interest and the cost for the cost of an L T Wright if I had same I would buy tools to make blades first as to tools we are talking the collection of a long life time belt sanders bench grinders hammers tongs so on so far iv secured an anvil and a couple hammers but feeding a family and housing on 1 income part time at that as a school bus driver don't leave a lot at end of month to buy gear any one willing to donate I thought not and now with U.I. running and S.S. with thumb where sun don't shine money is even tighter do ya get it now
I get that punctuation must be too much $$$ as well because you do not use any in your messages. Enjoy your day.
