    I know you get complaints from time to time about the videos being too long and drawn out, but I really appreciate the in depth breakdown in this one specifically. There's so much to compare when someone asks an impossible question like 'what's the best compound'. It requires you to go through each of the strengths and weaknesses of each product because there really isn't a straight answer. It depends on your machine, time, budget, ease of use, and what end result you're going for. I think you answered all of that with this video very nicely. A good mix of scientific evidence and personal experience/tips as well.

    This video convinced me a long time ago to buy H8.02 and I've been very pleased with it since !!
    Leaves a very good finish, you don't even need a finishing compound.
    The result is comparable to a one step like Angelwax regenerate

    Wow, how times have moved on! 15/20 years ago BC (Before Children!) when I actually had cars I cared about, I used to spend a lot of time looking after them. Now the kids are older and I have more available time and we have cars I want again, instead of cars we need, I began taking a bit more pride in looking after them. I was 'old school' you could say, so I bought some T-Cut, got some old rags and an old tin of Turtle Wax polish I had and spent a day trying to get a black Mini Cooper Roadster looking lovely...... what a waste of time that was! So I did the thing everyone does these days and Google'd away looking for advice and info. This lead me to your channel John. And what a revelation it is! I've watched most of your videos over the last few weeks, much to the amusement of my Mrs who thinks I'm going mad! I'm now the owner of a DA polisher, loads of different pads, a stack of micro-fibres and, after watching this video (and your one about The Best Finishing Polish) have tubs of Koch Chemie H8.02 and M2.01. Yesterday I had my first attempt at using them and got brilliant results which I'm very pleased with. All swirls were gone and a beautiful glass like finish was the end result once I'd sealed and waxed. I find all of your videos very informative, well presented in your relaxed and friendly manner and extremely useful for novices like me. Keep up the good work!

    H8 sounds awesome, especially for pros, as it cuts the fastest and doesn't need to be worked to get results, thus saving a huge amount of time = money
    I can't help feeling sonax cutmax would have been better suited for inclusion, especially when going up against H8 as the most aggressive compound each company does

    Very informative...cheers mate. It's weird how 105 has > gloss than products that came after it and were designed to have improved gloss. I'd like to try the KC H8.02 but its a bugger to get in Aus. Buying from Eu or the old Dart sometimes the postage cost more than the polish :( My 2 fav's on here are S3 and Fg400.

    Hello buddy , what would you recommend for cutting fresh paint with 2000 grit sand scratches . Based on cutting speed ? Currently using 3m fast cut plus with hard white foam pad on a rotary buffer . I feel I may be missing out on something faster/better. I hate polishing so always looking for something faster / harder

    As you mentioned you probably should've used sonax cutmax instead of FS05-04.
    FS (Feinschleif) translates to "light cutting" so not surprised it doesn't quite hold up with the others regarding the cut

    Great video, looking forward to the finishing polish test. Saying that how about a shootout test comparing 1 step cutting and finishing compounds? Informative video as always!
    Concerning the price. If you just detailing your own cars and are not a professional that goes through multiple bottles a month I really think price shouldn't play a big role to you. I been through 5 cars and am yet to finish my first tub of compound, so I think it would be mental to skimp out on a 'better' one to save one or three pounds. Also considering you're going to spend hours of time correcting the paint, so don't pay attention to a 2 pound diffrence which might reflect in your results.
    Not that you said the opposite but I just wanted to leave that here. Since in the past I paid alot of attention to the price of some products because they seemed expensive. But when you know you are going to get years of use out of one bottle, you really should disregard the price to some extend.

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety +1

      maybe but I think its good to talk about it and then how important that actually is to each person will vary like you say and each person can take away from that what they will... big variance in price though.. dont like paying 44 quid with a litre of abrasives when a very well regarded brand is charging like 28 quid.

    Koch Chemie H8.02 is my favourite too. M101 is alot better than M105. Nanolex Heavy Cut is also great. Angelwax is also great, but imo more greasy like S3 XXL so not the best with microfiber. This week im going to test Carpro Clear Cut compound which should be awesome.

  • @JimmyG91
    @JimmyG91 Před 6 lety +1

    Scholl s3gold is a bit old. The scholl s2black signature series is heavier in cut but finish better then s3gold. When you use s2bss with scholl white spiderpad it finishes really really good.
    If youve had it in the test i bet it would win in both cut and finish.
    Theres also the brand new scholl s1 but ive not tried it yet but i think the cut is ridiculus!
    Ive also heard the megs m100 has better cut than 105 with the same finish.

    I have used all 6 of these compounds but would say if you take them to the test on both soft and hard clear coat I would take scholl or DK any day of the week. Those 2 compounds work better if you set them up in the bigger picture :) but it’s a hard test to make because all products works differently for all of us

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety

      I think you might be right. I know the S3 works well on soft paintwork (although Ill use it on any paintwork really). I suspect the H8 will be ok though. My test panel is Ford OEM. It really is splitting the atom this one.

    • @jessencarcare6557
      @jessencarcare6557 Před 6 lety

      Forensic Detailing Channel for a long time Koch chemie H8.02 was my favorite compound because of the cut it has, it’s an amazing compound that makes a great gloss but on softer clear coats it gets a bit sticky. When I tried DK compounds they had me spot on it really works wonders for me on everything and that low dusting is the sweet spot for me with that level of cut :)

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety

      it definetly doesnt have the level of lubrication of 1.1 or s3. but my god it cuts :) they are so close because h8 is well lubricated as well.

    • @jessencarcare6557
      @jessencarcare6557 Před 6 lety

      Forensic Detailing Channel Yes its a close race between top 3 in your test, I use both KC H8 and DK 1.1 but mostly DK because of the low dusting. When I use DK on the DA it cuts best for me on 3-4 and when I use rotary it cuts best at about 1500 rpm

    So, given that these deliver a good gloss finish, could they be used for 1 step correction? I've just used S20 black as per your recommendation, but given what I've seen here, maybe I could've used a more aggressive compound?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 4 lety

      some people do yes..but on softer paints and stuff and when your cutting you can leave fine marring in there and stuff. and the finer polish will give the real top notch gloss. so its about time.. but from a detailing perspective really these cutting products I believe should be finish out properly.

      S20 black right? thats medium cut very high gloss. s20 black if I use this I dont refine it most of the time, I tend to use it as a 1 step. very nice. but not always the best option if you have lots of cutting to do.

      I do all my cutting with foam. I just dont do enough of this nowadays to really need to gain the extra cut from microfiber. sometimes on DA's its nice to be able to "up" the cut.. but generally on a rotary with foam or even the 3401 the level of cut I get is enough.
      but will explore microfiber pads.. they are not in widespread use for nothing..

      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety +1

      2500 bud. I took 10 averages with oils on and off. I did oils on first because I was paranoid about the effect of buffing all these products off over the entire single panel and scewing results but I dont think that actually was a factor. ideally you would do this with a seperate panel for each product but its just me in my garage and theres a lot of limitations to what I can do without going to mad

    • @MrWaqasr
      @MrWaqasr Před 6 lety

      Lovely Thank you very much for the swift reply. Could you do me one last favour? If the panel has not been touched since, could you check if the 2500 marks are completely removed, as in can you see tiny ripples in the clear coat, even though all sanding marks are gone, sometimes ive actually still seen signs of wetsanding but I think its down to the paper I was using on this specific instance. You need to look really close and at the right angle but you can still see small lines which the sand paper put in, they arnt tracers or dirt hat would have got caught under the paper either... even M101 on purple wool was not removing these marks!

  • @jasonwilson7674
    @jasonwilson7674 Před 6 lety +1

    Hi John, I'm sold on the megs, just quick Qs, how do you know when the product is running out on the pad? Can it damage the paint if the product runs out whilst working it? Last one, once you have finished working it in do you then buff it off straight away, thanks again Jason

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety

      so mixed in with the abrasives is the carrier.. you lay the product down on the panel over your polishing area at low speed, crank the machine up to a good speed and work is.. as you work the abrasives 2 significant things happen. 1 you generate heat 2 the abrasives scrap off clearcoat into the liquid abrasive slurry. As you generate heat you dry the carrier out (to varying extents depending on what the carrier is) and as you collect debry you thicken the slurry a bit like adding flour to milk. You can also have solvents in the carry that flash out of the slurry as well.. the bottem line is as you work your pad over the surface you want to see the film of product moving. As the carrier fails you can see various things happen. With megs you will start collecting product up and seeing patches or discs of dry panel and not long after that you will start dry buffing and collecting all the thick (now gunk like) slurry up in the pad. The main problem is some of the abrasives like S3 gold have carrier systems which just go on and on and on. With megs cutting compound 105 you prolly dont want to be working it beyond 2 minutes on a DA although its very hard to give you an exact time because so many things can effect it. you will see what I mean.. also really important to clean the gunk out the pad after each set mate.
      I would not recomend 105 if your doing this for the first time.. its a cool product but its a little bit harder to use and has a less forgiving carrier

    • @jasonwilson7674
      @jasonwilson7674 Před 6 lety

      Forensic Detailing Channel John, thanks for that reply, really appreciate it. Do you think I'd do well to go with the S3 gold then or scholl S20 black?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety

      if your looking for a heavy cutting compound and its the first time youve polished. S3 gold XXL will work really well on a DA and its easy to use, very low dusting etc.. so I would go with that. you will need to refine out the finish though really.. S3 like I say is a heavy cut compound which a decent finish.. but you would want to finish out with something like S40 with it.
      S20 is a 1 step. so if you dont want to do multiple stage correction with different pads and compounds. S20 is the way to go.

  • @bedfordvaletingdetailingma6180

    Nice video John, as a professional price is relevant however it's not high up the list compared to performance. Working time is important as you've mentioned. Unless I missed it, how far does each product go?
    If a more expensive but goes x3 further, or cuts quicker, it becomes way more economical in labour alone. Especially if an agent finishes down better. Just seemed to be homing on price to me a little too much.
    Did you use same brand pads for each agent or manufacturers recommended? I know its easy to criticise, difficult to make videos and include all!

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety +1

      cheers matt. price was just one catagory that gave 6 marks. working time was another one, there were some others, all shown in the vid bud so price only really counted for 10% of the marks... I couldnt use recomended pads would have just cost way too much :( would be very cool to do that actually but introduce a whole load of complexity for me. gonna hopefully explore pad choices a bit more next year.

      Have a play with malco epic. I'm sure you will be impressed, its at the higher end of price but it's efficiency goes a long long way.
      Most brands use German Foam Partners V8 open cell foam. Comes in all different colours, some reticulated some not. I.e scholl, flex, LC, Rupes, Mez, Flexi pads and many more. But you'll know yourself how some products performs better with wool, micro fibre and even 5mm on foam depth effects resistance/performance.

The 06-02 would fit much better in the test and then they still have two more agressive ones. Speaking of the 06-02 i do like it a lot more then meg and menzerna it is much easier to work with it :)

    Hey John,
    Long time M105 user but more recently in the past 4 months, I've switched to using Megs M100 Pro Speed Compound.
    If you haven't tried it, I highly recommend it. It pretty much fixes all the issues you (and I) have with M105. It has a longer working time, more lubrication, and significantly less dusting. All while maintaining the Gloss and Finish ability of M105.
    I haven't used any other quality Compounds however and I am curious to see a more experienced users take on M100.
    Thanks for the videos!

      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety

      hey there... it could be the the paint under the clearcoat has faded less where the decal was.. If thats the case theres nothing you can do.. however it could also be the case the the clearcoat under the decal is just in better shape and less hazed than the clearcoat around it. All you can do it attempt to machine polish the area to fix it. If that doesnt fix it then its likely to be the first faded paint scenario...

    Hi John, have you tried the sprayable compound from optimum polymer technologies? If so how did you like it ?

    • @ForensicDetailing
      @ForensicDetailing  Před 6 lety +2

      hyper compound and hyper polish. I have both. Prolly should of put hyper compound in this vid actually. but it has like a different delivery mechanism. the more Ive used it the more I have problems with spraying the compound out the bottle. you have to kind of play with the rake of the spray to get good thin coverage all over the pad. but I just find myself spraying it on the tool, and if I adjust the rake then it tends to stream. prolly getting into personal preference but I think I just prefer the ones you can squeeze out onto the pad. but theres some advantages to how much product you use with the patented optimum system. you also save a fair bit of time not buffing off the residue. You also need to clean the abrasives out the spray trigger when you finish or they can clog the chamber of the sprayer. the abrasive itself is top quality.
