    Sorry to hear about your problem. I am a mobile repair tech and I just finished a Lippert training class about your slide mechanism.
    According to the Lippert instructors, ALL slides using a Schwintek slide system are to have a roller at each end of the slide at NO MORE than 6" from the side wall. Then there is to be no more than 24" apart between rollers. If this is not done, it is the manufacturer who is at fault. I think that Grand Design is a responsible manufacturer and would see the fault in this build. You may want to reach out to Lippert for further info on the required build and then maybe even though out of warranty, Grand Design may help. Good luck.

    Thank you so much for the video. I have a 2021 Solitude ST390RK. I pulled into Texas a month ago and when I went to set up the right slide in the kitchen wouldn’t go out. After investigating a little, I found that all the rivets on the right side were broke. I just ordered all the rollers to put under all of my slides. Time to re rivet everything. Thanks again.

  • @SpykersB
    @SpykersB Před rokem +2

    I had a GD 2019 solitude, 5 slides, my schwintek slides didn’t have bottom rollers either. Because I had to deal with these massive slides, - I now have a slide less RV, lol.
    What is interesting, if Lippert says rollers should be there, I wonder if this requirement of bottom rollers is a recently new add-on improvement, I would be reaching out to Lippert and asking them. Second, GD saying they are not needed is a bit of a 🤬, I would be having a little chat with Lippert to learn more.
    Anyway, very impressive repair job Todd! 👍🏼🍻

    I has a similar issue with our 376TH although I was happy to discover that there were rollers installed under our front slides. I was about to buy all of the same rebuild kits you invested in but instead detached the frame and inspected it first - bingo, rivet failure. I re-riveted the runners, re-assembled it and everything works beautifully. Cheers mate!

    Great video, these are problematic slide units. On our Motorhome, I had the rivets shear on one side top and bottom and our slide even had rollers under it. By bending up a small tool the width of the gob lock, I was actually able to re-rivet the gob blocks back in with out removing the h channel and was pretty easy to do. The tool slipped behind the block and I could set the block in place and hold outward tight to rivet it. Also there is a video of you search, that shows a manual control box to move the slide when doing maintenance. I did find a manual that stayed that the rivets were originally plastic and are meant to be a sacrificial part to save from damaging other parts.

    I had a similar problem. Between General Rv in Richmond Va.and grand design they so poorly engineered mine I had to fix it myself. The rollers do exist on mine but they secured it with small wood screws and the rollers literally fell off. I took it in for another repair that required the slide to come off the rv under warranty and they put it back and didn’t install the rollers correctly. I had to re-engineer the roller mounting with proper screws and construction cement. Both the grand design and my current coachmen have been total junk. They’ve both been in the shop more than I’ve been able to use them.

    Informative video! I have a wildcat 302bh with a similar slide using the schwintek slide.. I’m having issues with it coming in on one side and I believe it has something to do with the roller on that side. It’s tearing up the coating on the underside of the slide and it doesn’t roll. Upon further inspection, it appears they used a bolt instead of a pin going into the roller and I will be trying to loosen the bolt to see if it helps, or replace it with an oem style pin. If that doesn’t work, I wouldn’t know what else to do except take it apart like you have, and it makes me feel a little bit more confident in doing so because of this video..

    Nice job and nice video. In my limited understanding the blocks and the wheels in the H column can rest a bit on the tracks, but are not supposed to be supporting the weight of the slide. With no bottom rollers I’d guess the threshold/wear bar under the slide wore or compressed… seems like the rollers do more than reduce the friction and load on the motors and spur gears. Would have been so easy and not very expensive for the rollers to have been installed at the factory. Baffling that they were not.

    Hey Todd,
    We are very familiar with what happens when a Schwintec slideout is not supported by rollers. They are absolutely 100% required under a Schwintec slide out. We have a 390rk that had the floor sag issue. When the floor sagged the rollers were no longer in contact with the bottom of the slideout causing the pins (gibs) to carry all the weight. The gibs ultimately failed! Grand Design covered the costs to repair the slideout and the floor issue 100%! They informed us that the rollers under the slideout on a Schwintec slide are required! Get a hold of Ty over at Grand Design customer service and see if she will help you out. You may deserve a full reimbursement for everything that went wrong related to that slide if Grand Design installed your slide out incorrectly at the plant and omitted rollers. They should honor and cover your repair bills for what appears to be their mistake. It's the right thing to do.

    My wardrobe slide also does not have rollers. While I don’t have any issues with the movement of the slide or the schwintek mechanism…the small front sidewall of the slide box has cracked fiberglass (like the filon wall). Manufacturer replaced the wall…a year later it’s done it again!!! Has anyone else experienced cracking of the slide out wall on a schwintek??

    Todd, you guys really did a great job repairing the slideout. I just wish Lippert and/or Grand Design would design a better slide system and stop using the same system, year after year, knowing that these fail, left and right.. I have heard about another company that makes replacement slideout systems but can not remember the name of the company. We have the 22' Momentum 395ms-r, which you saw in person in Spring, TX (Rayford Crossing RV Resort), when Lisa and I first met you and Shelia. Remember, "hey Shelia, can Todd come out and play". lol

    Awesome video. I’ve been trying to figure mine out for 2 years. Had the same stress crack.
    At 15:49, those silver rectangle parts that the rivits go into. I’m missing one on mine. Any idea exactly what they are called? Or even better a part number?

    The rollers on our 397th are on the inside under bed. Can not see them from the outside. However the wood they are on is only held with 3 screws which have broke this week and I replaced with leg bolts

    Nice Job, frustrating dealing with the service department I know! 2022 GD Momentum 395MSR, 2 years trying to get things fixed that were found at pick up of our unit, $100K+ And nothing is more frustrating than the Appointment to drop off so it can sit for 4 to 6 weeks until it can be assessed not repaired Assessed! And I made an appointment why ???. I don't know why I haven't just fixed it myself???!!! Probably the $100k+ ! And none if it is big except of course the Damage they did to it when it was there the last time, that also hasn't been fixed, love my 395MSR it's beautiful and Huge! 😊 God Bless and God's Speed, 🥶 🧟‍♀️ 👐!

    I have heard of a replacement system for the Schwintek Slide. I believe it was called a Vroom system. It apparently is stronger and much better build quality than the Schwintek. Have you given that any consideration? Do you have any experience with the Vroom?

    • @spacecadet4876
      @spacecadet4876 Před rokem

      I spoke with the owner of Vroom Engineering. We are in FL. He recommended an AL company do the R&R on our whole wall slide.
      Schwintek is seriously under engineered IMHO. Especially with a 15' slide. That's my source of high anxiety. I dread retracting it on fear of a fail stranding us.
      Junk.
      Vroom claims their testing was 60K cycles. In fact you can stop the motion anywhere.
      To me their solution looks MIL SPEC.
      R&R is done in one day.
      They require the label data from the slides to properly size the Vroom product.
      Apparently they can reuse the motors.
      The lead time was several months.
      IF we keep our rig, it's a done deal. We'll have that done for sure. Just the elimination of the anxiety is worth it to us
      After buying the Jayco 24B I realized schwintek was the Achilles Heel of the RV. And true to form we've had three issues requiring repair.

    Looks like you noodles this out really well. You should be proud of yourself and GD should be a little embarrassed!
    Safe travels!
