This would be perfectly at home in a CIA MKULTRA project to psychologically break somebody by forcing constant physical activity and preventing rest for long periods of time. They would do this so that when the person's mind finally broke due to stress, they could create an alternate personality (an "alter") that they can control and bring out at will with activation phrases. It's trauma-based mind control and they still practice it, of course.
The only difference is that she literally self-induced this on herself and never completely got to the mind-break phase because she was allowed to slow down and had a support staff to help her.

After a year my knees felt like they were about to explode and I had to quit. Occasional, leisurely walk can be quite therapeutic and meditative but putting your knees under regular stress, especially running, is pure self-destruction. Humans descended from climbing species, our feet are basically half-hands, we don't have hard, senseless hooves found in all walking mammals or flexible, springy paws of large cats. We are upright to support our heads, not to run everywhere

This woman obviously likes running, but that does not means she wont feel stressed when setting her pr or something like that. This may be bad for her health, but why hating?
