I tiled my bathroom and shower about 9 or 10 years ago, I was a brand new homeowner, and a brand new DIY'er, with little to no advice or know-how. (A few tips from a Home Depot clerk, and my own instincts.) It turned out pretty good! Only one tile settled on the floor a little uneven. ( I used floor leveler there, and apparently didn't build it up enough.) I am now thinking about tiling the back splash in my kitchen. And since there are so many more resources on the internet for us do-it-yourselfers, I thought I'd research to see if I did it right the first time. I did everything you did in this and the previous video, so now I feel confident to tackle the kitchen!! Thank you for your video's! As for the comment about the uncovered worktop, the stuff wipes right off. No big deal. :-)

Hi Lisa, It's great that you are prepared to have a go yourself. So many people these days are afraid of doing the most basic of DIY tasks and will get in a trades person to do the work for them.
      Thanks for the comment ;-)

great video, and really helpful. It's also nice to hear a Lancashire accent-it's been years since I moved away!
    Thanks!

    excellent teacher.
Got a evening tiling course coming up and I think got quite a bit of theory down already after this video.
I've tiled a bathroom floor before and found that quite easy as it was big tiles but i've yet to do anything else.

Nice vid, some people put the bonding on the tiles instead of wall then put them against the wall ,whats best ? Your way looks easier.

I am going to tile my sisters kitchen and thankful for your videos. It will be the first time I have ever tiled!
There isn't a lot to tile though but the problem for me is not having the diamond cutter!
Is that the only way to cut around the plug sockets?
    Thanks again!

You can use an angle grinder with a tile cutting blade, but it is a dusty job.
I often cut curves in tiles this way- czcams.com/video/XSwLrPMWtHg/video.html
If the tiles are not porcelain you can also use a tile saw, which are very inexpensive compared to a grinder or flat bed tile cutter- fave.co/1LKa8EC

I bought mine from a local tile shop, but normally stuff from B&Q is ok.

Hi can you tell me what size spacers do you use? I’m doing 10cmx10cm tiles

    • @ultimatehandyman
      @ultimatehandyman  Před 6 lety

It's all down to personal preference, I'd probably use a spacer either 3mm or 4mm thick

In America its called a 'backsplash'. I don't think I've ever heard 'splashback' before. Otherwise an informative vid. Thanks.

That is correct, but in the UK it is called a splashback.

I'm glad I'm not in your kitchen as well. There is nothing worse than someone going on about a kitchen worktop like it's a paint job on a Lamborghini.
