I love this partly because I can see a frantic attempt by ground units to splash these things before they can land and deploy. Also, intriguing use of mag plates to absorb impact
@@Alen725 that works great until they get dropped on foot soldiers or a convoy with no turrets. Also, if they have antennae, they could be remote-controlled, which means you drop them from outside turret range and fire in
I hate that i know the hardest part wasn't the decoupling stages, it was the blasted wheel tracks. It is sick as hell, if a bit impractical though. I think you could definitely size down the design
fuck that, there’s nothing more demoralizing than the enemy sending a bunch of high altitude cargo jets and raining down remote control towers with 18 guns mounted to each
this looks awesome, a workshop link would be very appreciated, but apart from that, I really like the way that you have a fairing on the actual drop pod to make sure it is angled downwards before its properly released.
Unfortunately the two parts were merged and the follow cam always defaulted to the largest grid after they separated, but I agree that would have been a sick shot
This is awesome, love how the skids eject and the use of a parachute like in real drop offs. Tho the disconnecting shell is probably unnecessary. The falling on the prongs was dope.
Aww, I wanted to see the shroud parachute down onto the pod and get in its way. Using the parachute to pull it from the plane was quite smart, though. No need for complicated piston pushers or funny flying; just deploy the chute to deploy the pod. They need a way to cut chutes instead of having to wait for movement to stop. That would let you cut it loose after the pod is out and turn on a thruster to push the shroud out of the way of the pod's landing zone. Bonus points if it does extra damage to the enemy base in its fall.
It may not be terribly dangerous or effective per unit cost, but my respect for my opponent would be so vastly improved. His sheer commitment to an aesthetic of war! Huge flex.
That is fucking sick. I love the staging. I hope space engineers one day gets to the point where massive multiplayer servers exist and stuff like this can be utilized on a regular scale rather than just some niche thing in a server with 10 people. I'm talking like planetside 2 scale
I can see an assault craft drop 6 of these out each side to create a landing zone then drop off the ground forces before going back to rearm with some more drop pods
@@Daddy_Damo please do man it’s a more physics based space engineers and making bombers is my favorite thing to do would love to see what you could create I got like 1500 hours in the game
Haha this is cool it reminds me of an idea i had for a future type of warfare where you drop these giant spikes from space, that dig in to the ground from the impact like a dart sticking into a dart board, and then on top are huge turrets with 360 degree view and coverage. They basically have Tank Main Artillery facing down toward the ground, and hundreds of Laser anti-aircraft turrets facing up and outward.
Imagine just a whole wave of those planes going by in like a massive war and then hundreds of these things drop down and deploy those auto turrets. That'd be crazy
Space Engineers needs a mode where there's a strategic need for using planes and deploying things like this. I really like the game, but it's mostly, but not entirely a proof of concept sim.
This shit is the reason I wish there was a Space Engineers 2 made by a larger company. This is dated, but still absolutely great. Imagine what a sequel would be like.
Start the deployment as soon as the fairing is jettisoned, allow it to defend itself before it lands. Decent defenses will have those taken care of before they can deploy on the ground, decent defenses will make it difficult to land very many still functional regardless
damn that turret makes me remember of the Warhammer machinegunand rocket turrets, they are deployed from orbit, and smashes into the ground, but with rocket boosters, to be more quick at landing, they don't have parachutes to mitigate the fall dmg
Okay, this is a bit of a tangent, but i was designing a warship called the decimation. A beast of a warship designed to be nigh unstoppable while dishing out so much damage it was stupid. This gives me the idea of putting on orbital deployment pods for troops.
A very interesting build, probably a weapon that you would want to target large grid ships though, doesn’t seem to have enough maneuverability to target small grid in actual applications. Maybe try for micro sized missiles with a higher velocity?
In vanilla these sadly don't have much utility unless pvp, but thanks to the lovely ai mods nowadays this actually feels like a good option for attacking assert bases
Oh nice, ground defense turrets set up from the sky! I usually just dropped borg cubes/spheres on people and they would be so confused until some hatches opened up to reveal 20 guns.
There's no safer occupation than soldiering. Especially when you're a soldier loaded into a metal coffin and shot like a bullet at a planet from orbit straight into the hottest part of the fighting at multiple times the speed of sound! (Starts waving arms around like a whooshing spaceship) WhooooooOOOOOoooooOOOOOooooOOOOO.... Safe!
Now you just gotta make an airplane capable of dropping more of these and show us that upon an unfortunate target!
or just have 10 cargo planes 👀

You should add some decoys that get ejected just before it hits ground to really mess with defenses
Yes! Add decoys to the three parts that get ejected and only seperate from them just before landing.
Just add another plane...

Starship troopers style I like it
Imagine calling for an airstrike only to hear "Roger that, deploying ground forces."
“What? No! We said airstrike, not ground forces!”
“It can be both!”
Flip the side the parachute is on and put a tip at the front and pack it with explosives, and you have effectively made the MOAB.

This looks like something the US Army would test. Great work! Love the design.
Excellent work and cinematography! I was very curious as to what the final reveal was and it did not disappoint!

My god that's sick. Dropping automated gun platforms that EMBED THEMSELVES IN THE GROUND due to their FREEFALL VELOCITY is just so cool

Drop pods don't need parachutes or engines or landing gear. Some throwaway armor blocks to cushion the impact and that's it, save PCU that way.
