Keep it mild, you already have the Rudicon for wild stuff. 45 axles with lockers and keep it more drivable, I live in the north where all the comanchees have rusted away so hate to see a nice one get too modified beyond recognition. Also the patina is kinda cool where the top is silver and the bottom is still blue, maybe have Robbie clear it to preserve it right where it's at.
Astute.
You did great at the hell an back run ,you Paul an Rowie can get it done good sir
Jeff Judah
Rudy bolt your seats in , we don't want Janelle to fall out!🤣
Same here love seeing her 😍
She didn't look impressed lol
She's precious Cargo, Rudy. Handle with care.
😂
But it's just a fasaud...lol
I wouldnt go any larger than 35's. Keep it within reach of an average guy that cant spend lots on expensive parts. A whole series about a budget build, using found spare parts at salvage yard etc...Im proud of you for following your dreams and being your own man. Kudos to you for that. Never let anyone talk you out of going for it !
How about getting the back of the Comanche fit for 2 person camping and go on some adventures? ⛺
Oddball suggestion: Dana 44s, 35" tires, and an overland setup with a rooftop tent etc. Could be a good opportunity to meet some new folks in the industry and on some trails.
He seems more upset about the bypasses than the sugar in the gas tank lol
That's because that BS IS how trails get shut down eventually. Idiots ruin everything for everyone else
To be fair he probably made enough money from the sugar in the tank video to buy a whole new engine
@@jcorkable he probably made enough to swap a hellcat drivetrain in it lol which would be cool to watch him do
The question is…did he take the opportunity to plug onx app because they are a sponsor? If so transparency is needed. This channel and Matt’s off-road do not address sponsors very often and some transparency would be nice
@@henryberruete2476 IF he is doing a motor swap no hellcat is needed. He can and should go with the 470hp version of it that they are putting in the 2023 Jk's. 707hp is way to much for the Comanche.
I like the build as it is. Tasteful, not too crazy. Fix the suspension issue to smooth out the ride, throw a Detroit locker in the back, but personally, I'd keep it as is after that.
Also, I feel you talking about not messing with the trail. One of the trails near me got shut down because the access road to get to it ran through private land and people couldn't resist tearing up the road, leaving trash everywhere, etc. So now a whole trail system is inaccessible.
Agreed. People are always trying to limit access and shut down trails to offroad vehicles. Driving off trail, and leaving trash just gives them fuel to shut us down even easier. It is too bad more people don't see that, and take better care of what they have.
@@Bobbywolf64 yeah this guy had allowed people to use his privately owned access road for decades but people kept being disrespectful and also despite the fact that an _active railroad system_ is an through the property, people still would drive on the tracks and some idiot broke down on the tracks and rather than drive off the tracks to fix the issue he _tried fixing it while on the tracks_ and you can guess what happened next. Luckily no one was hurt or worse but after that the owner shut down access.
Roll bar in the bed, fuel tank or jerry can racks under the roll bar so you don't run out of gas again. Also to rescue your dad when he does. Pull out storage trays in the bed. Locks for everything, including the gas. A decent tarp and bungee cords to transform the bed into a tent for overnighters.
More supple suspension and a rear locker of some type too. 👍 then maybe see if Robby will paint it and spice it up some where between Owen’s Blazer and the Golden Nugget. 🤷♂️
I would go with built JK 44s to run 37s. Keep it light and as original as possible.
35”’s will be phenomenal and most likely all the Rudy would need. That’s what I’ve got on my Tacoma and it keeps up with Jeeps in my tire size class that have more money sunk into them. I’m still running the factory IFS and people can’t believe it because 32”’s are supposed to be the biggest that will fit on my truck. All I’ve got to say is, “well, I got them to fit!” and it performs better than anybody gives it credit for! You would just have to see it to believe it.
@Todd Adams if you measure with a tape how tall are your tires really?
Hey Rudy,
First, fix that seat so Jenelle is safe when you are driving.
Then make it a much more comfortable ride.
You have the Rudicon for serious rock climbing but you might give the comanche a better leg up.
I think the rudicon is the 1 ton beast. Keep this more like the banana. Built 35-37s stock width axles. Keep the commanche feel being a rare bird.
Rudy, Thank you for mentioning stay the trail! If more of the off roading CZcams channels would mention it, it would help tremendously.
You can see that bypass was cut by a dozer not by vehicles going around the obstacle. Poor example for him to use for his message of staying on the trail.
@Bill R I noticed that too & probably the bypass was over the rocks.
The way that bypass has all the rocks pushed to one side makes it look like it was made by a grader and not just someones attempt at a bypass
Good observation.
As an owner of two Comanche's myself, I love what you've done with it! Keep working it.
I've always wanted one. Might have to pull the trigger this year
Do it. You won’t be disappointed.
I vote for a camping rig build. Bullet proof the Dana 44's, 37's and some storage mods/bed rack for hauling gear. That is, if you're into trail camping. If not, build it for how you'll use it.
I like how you said 37x12.5x17. The tire will actually measure 35". Most tires aren't as tall as they say on the sidewall.
Rudy...EXACTLY!!! Making new routes in areas that specifically state 'do not leave established trails'...is what gets public access off-road places shut down. Unfortunately, sometimes you can't fix 'stupid'.
Sad, but true.
You've got an off road rig that does everything already. Dana 44s, 35s, a built stroker 6 cyl, plus suspension mods for road and trail performance/drivability. Comanche that can be driven anywhere in the US, do all but the craziest trails, and then drive home again. With more creature comfort than the Rudicon. AC, decent stereo, maybe a hard shell RTT, maybe a fridge. Not a total overland build but a Swiss Army knife build. A Comanche that is versatile enough to do most everything, not a primarily hard core trail rig. Something you can drive to the Rubicon/ Fordyce, wheel and live out of for a week, and drive home. Whadda ya think?
That Commanche is looking good so far! Those tires really beef up it's image! I noticed you also replaced the headliner too! That blanket/pattern looks awesome in it!
You have the Rudicon for big stuff , put a locker in the comanche and you still have a truck easy to drive and steertable and capable of trail rides
THANK YOU for the PSA about trail etiquette! Rory did one a short time back too. If we want to keep these lands open, STAY ON the trail, Please!
Rudy, keep tweaking on the truck using your ideas and it will be formidable vehicle. You know what you want, so go for it.
Make it a pre runner style for Rudicon support, spare tire racks in the bed, tools, compressors etc.
I think it would be more interesting if you didn't try to replicate the Rudicon with the Comanche. Go with more of an overland capable build than a rockcrawler. It would be interesting to see the comparison between the two Jeeps.
The Comanche is a proper offroad truck now nice upgrade & I totally agree with your PSA we have the same problem in Oregon one guy worked for DOT & he took it upon himself to build a bypass well he got a hefty fine$ was banned from offroading in that area and lost his job, just goes to show if isn't your property don't mess with it, great video thank's for sharing ❤😉👍
Now that you built Janelle a nice little 4x truck, what color is she going to paint it?
Just love how he did the liner👌🏽
Rudy, no problem if you do the Keep To The Trail PSA every time video. Thanks for the work to keep our hobby going.
I love the older stuff like this one )I have a '76 CJ7). Since you already have a crawler, I would go a different direction with this one. Put the Dana-44s under it with 35" tires and make a compact overlander out of it. Wouldn't it be nice to have a rig to get away from things and do a little boondocking with?
That''s what I'd do!
The sight of high volume water flow soothes my parched Western soul 😊
Plywood slider rear window nice touch !
Definitely tons, 40’s, upgraded t-case, gears, a cage (maybe a cool roll bar setup in the bed with some round kc lights) custom bumpers, winch. I’m trying to live my dreams through this build 😂
First of all..a locking gas cap! 😋
LOL , yes 4 wheel drive makes it much easier! Good job Rudy and Janelle ! 👍👍💯
I love the shape of the Comanche, looks really good with those bigger tyres. Problem in Australia is all the guys in big lifted 4wds tear up the tracks and make it impossible for anyone without a heavily modified 4x4 to get through. We also have strict registration laws so it's not easy to drive modified vehicles around. Makes me wanna move to Utah and buy an old Comanche to mod 😊
There are many trails available that are very doable with much smaller, and stock 4wd rigs. More trails than the ones you see these buggies on giant tires on. They are not nearly as entertaining in video, so you don't see much of them on youtube or whatnot. I have a jeep with 33's, and wheel it all the time. I would not dream of going on most of the trails you see these guys do, but that is because it isn't built for that.
Also australian, you don't need big tyres hardly anywhere in aus, and bigger tyres do trails easier tearing it up less except for bogholes where it doesn't matter what size tyres you have you're going down. the problem here in Australia is too many vehicles that are terrible offroad like 79 series so they floor it and hope for the best.
Do what is best for you Rudy, your the builder you know so well what is best
I’d say 35-37” tires on Dana 60s, don’t go too crazy, keep it more mild. But put a roll bar in the back with 4 KC daylighters with the smiley face covers.
1 tons, coilovers, and badass body work ! Make that thing look brand new !
Lockers and suspension winch and tow hooks tools and a recovery rope first aid kit and accurate gas gauge to start👌🏻
Like the new headliner. Reminds me growing up in the 50s, we used the same blankets for torn seat coverings. Front and rear. As in "one o'clock two o'clock rock, we're gonna rock around the clock tonight, drive in movies, beaches, take me back.....
The RudiCom looks great just as it is, even the faded blue paint. But you might want to bolt the seat in. 😉
Wise words about Keeping the landscape proper. Appreciate the egology and your part in it. Make your impact to it as minimal as possible, Enjoy it as is.
It needs a winch and a better suspension other than that I think it's pretty cool can't wait to see what you do with it
The Comanche is awesome and the Jeep six is perfect for this size vehicle. As you said you just need to work on driveline/suspension which you would have knocked out in no time. You already have a dedicated hardcore wheeler in the Rudicon but as a pickup maybe turn this one into a capable crawler-overlander with but with more creature comforts. Once the mechanicals are done build a nice cage that extends back over the bed for the overlanding equipment, install some solar and power supply units for your cameras and drones, throw in that Wagoneer grille and clean up the rig (even new paint) to look more civilized, then install A/C and some tunes. Great camping and utility rig for you two (three) and would certainly allow for you to showcase your creative fab work. Keep up the awesome content!
Exactly what I was thinking 👍
Looking good, get seats secured, headliner is super, keep street legal.. IMO .. 35s .. maybe built Dana 44 .. a MUST is a Rear Locker, I lean toward mechanical lockers.
Put a locking gas cap on it 😊
That’s why “stay the trail” is a thing. Keep up the message
Rudy, nice job on the Comanche. You are right on par with Paul Cox in the engineering department.
I’d love for you to put a bed rack with a. Rooftop tent and do some camping trips
I like the Comanche as it is, I would suggest more supple suspension and maybe Dana 44s front and rear with a rear locker.
The problem with a rear only locker is on steep off camber climbs, the rear end causes the front end to lift drastically. I've seen plenty of rollovers due to this.
chuck a couple of lockers in it, a long range fuel tank, 33's, winch, snorkel make it reliable and take it camping all around the country. you have the rudicon to do the stupid hard stuff the comanche is an ideal platform for a long range touring rig.
Thats a nice looking rig as is Rudy , well done young man .
Lockers front and back, winches front and back, and a light bar. I think a roll bar would change the look too much.
The tire size is fine, I would keep the bench seat and fix the back window so it's one big pane that hinges outward towards the bed and can be secured down.
It's a great truck, looks good the way it is.
I think a “low budget” build would be neat, mild built 44s maybe a spool in the rear and a auto locker in the front, 37s at the biggest. Something that functions well but the average Joe can afford to build and more basic tools in his driveway/small shop/ garage. Just my thoughts. Keep up the great content guys, LOVE the channel!!!!
I think an overland Comanche build would be rad, but with all that weight, you’d likely want tons, 40’s, and a little more motor. Another cool idea would just be to go with built 44’s and 35’s, maybe 37’s and just set it up as a crawler that’s decent on road or a rig to drive to the gig as like to call it.
I just went up there and was glad that bypass was there for oncoming traffic. It's busy up there these days. And as a toquerville resident, I approve this one for safety. But yes for the most part please stay the course.
Bob the bed, install sliders and a winch, trim fenders as required to run 37’s on built 44’s with as little lift as required….and if all else fails, just keep enjoying it and being RAD 👊🏻
that hill is one of the more reasonable bypasses it makes a famous area more accessible to more people. the rock crawlers get to keep their route and the more stock 4x4 owners can enjoy the area too
Good point on people leaving the trails. We had the same issue and now 1000s of acres are closed off to public access. Used to be a beautiful spot to wheel and camp never to be seen again by anyone but the owner now. STAY ON TRAIL or there won't be any left..
Good job Rudy.
1 tons and a V8. 289.👍🏽🤙🏾🤘🏾🤟🏽✋🏽🙋🏽♂️😊😎
I think it looks perfect. Gotta love those American Racing steel wheels too!
Build it how you like! Personally, overbuilt is not what I would do or like. 35’s max on the tires. Almost forgot to vote too ;)
Please don’t stop with the Comanche videos! I own a manual XJ but my dream would be to add a manual MJ to my driveway. Watching these videos keeps me focused on my goal!
Thank y’all so much for showing us ( that may never get the chance to see it in person)how beautiful it is there. It’s got to be such a amazing feeling being on the trails there and experiencing the views in person. Wow I’m just day dreaming and picturing myself there and the breeze blowing and the waterfall noise. Just wow is all I can say
Love the headliner!!!! I wouldn't get too crazy with it. Just build it up for Jenelle👊🏻
Built Dana 44s on 35" tires would be a clean build for the Comanche. I personally have nothing against the Rudicon, I just hate seeing such a capable vehicle getting hacked up. Love the content you bring though, keep it up!
The Comanche looks the best it has looked since you got it. It has a good stance and and reflects who you are at this time. It's one of those I wouldn't change. This can be your daily driver and moderate off road use vehicle. You have the other Jeep for tough off road use. Sorry I am a little fried and can't remember the name of your Jeep.
Enjoyed the two of you out checking the Comanche and appreciate the message for the shouldn't be off road people who go off designated paths. DON'T DO STUPID OFF ROADING, STAY ON THE DESIGNATED PATHS PEOPLE...
PRP seats with Mexican blanket designed to match the headliner front bumper with winch long arm kit 35s with some bead locks. Got to get more flex.
Okie window (Wood in the back window) -
The Comanche is looking good!
I say keep it as stock as possible. The Rudicon is the heavily modified vehicle, keep this more basic and fun.
I totally agree Rudy, if you can't take the original trail then you don't belong on the trail, which means your vehicle isn't made for said trail, stop making bypasses, stay the trail or get off the trail since you can't drive the original trail...... lovin the build Rudy! Also stoked your learning big words LOL!❤
I think we're all with you on that tread lightly folks
Leaves it like it is and make it a nice daily truck
MJ as a milder, but very capable Dana 44s on 35s with some overland features would make a good differentiation from the Rudicon and alternate adventures.
More flex, lockers, role bar, finish installing the seats, fix rear window, toolbox in bed for recovery ropes and tools, a winch if you don’t already have one…..beyond that whatever axels and tire size you think will suit it for the trail riding you wanna do……also, get the AC working and the heat if that’s broke too. That’s my 2 cents. Love the video. Keep it up!
Good job on the Comanche! The sugar in the gas tank..... some people are just jerks (and you know who you are)! I particularly loved the falls!
Thanks Rudy for the PSA on proper trail educate .fix the seats and go from there.
It all depends on what you want to do with the rig if you want to keep it basic just put lockers in it maybe a little suspension work
I think it would be awesome to keep it close to original (not a "Rock Crawler") but definatly make (fabricate) up grades. Something that a novice (like me) could attempt.
I didn't know that you are a hunter that so cool 😎
Absolutely OnX is a game changer
That's AWESOME to see water flowing towards down stream lakes
You gotta leave the body intact lol. My vote is beefed up 44s but no cutting. It looks sick as-is. Not sure if you camp much but would be a sweet overland build.
There you go. Your Comanche finally grew up and is starting a new life. Hope your semi sweetened motor (engine, whatever) is ok.
The Comanche has the same HVAC unit as the Cherokee so your heater will be amazing also the ac is top notch! It’s meant to heat or cool a SUV not a single cab truck. I pushed my MJ over 275 thousand miles
This thing looks so cool, like your rudicon before you did the violett stuff and rollcage, please don‘t go to far
Better suspension, rock sliders, skid pan and beadlocks. I wouldn't go with much bigger tires if bigger at all. Looks tough and appears capable as is. Oh and maybe bolt the seats in. 😉
Love the Comanche, have always wanted one, maybe someday! Build it however you want!
Keep it simple. You’ve got a mean wheeler. Make this a fun runaround easy trail rig. Put some lockers in it, air conditioning, winches and drive it.
Keep the commanche vids coming, your first couple inspired me to go out and buy one! As for what to do with it, I think 35s definitely look super clean on commanches
Great progress!!! Oh, and I love the headliner !!
add lockers, fix up the interior, PRP has really cool Serape blanket seats to match the headliner you did. make some custom tube bumpers, just dont cut it up and go over the top like the Rudicon. just make it a really comfortable and reliable, and nice rig
It was good to see it with The same tires and The same suspension.
Go big or Go Home lol😂 The Comanche would look jacked with coil overs and 1tons. You need a ride for Janelle to get you out of trouble with the Rudicon. The show is awesome keep up the great work
I do love this is stock ish...An I would love to find a comanche in that condition in WI
It drives me crazy when people can't stay on the trail. We've had lots of trails closed because people want to break the rules. Places I went since I was a kid, and one day show up there, but they'll have a chain or a gate blocking them off, and signs saying you can no longer enter.
We just ran Toquerville Falls and Rattlesnake Gultch. We had 3 to 4 feet water crossings. It is hard to miss the boulders you can't see.
I'd keep the Comanche pretty close to how it is. The Rudicon can be the beast and the Comanche can be the Comanche. I'd love to see it get a full on Robby Layton sandblast and paint though, and maybe a headliner that isn't hideous.
Flared fenders, trailing arm, coil overs, bypass shocks, bump stops. You already have a crawler. Make a go fast desert truck that can also crawl some.
I've always thought it would be sweet to combine a 4 door Cherokee with a Comanche and make a custom crew cab Comanche!
Please don't stray too far from what it is now! I understand rollbars for safety reasons, and a wench. As far as renaming it, (I really like Comanche, but I understand why you would rename it), ah that's a tough one. Nice episode, thanks. And as someone already mentioned! Fix those seats, and I saw your dog bouncing around in the back!
He already has a wench, 😉
35s, Utah version of a trail capable overlander with roof top camper! Looks great Rudy
LOVE the new Headliner, very cool! And yes, do not make new Bypasses around Obstacles. There is no Shame in getting stuck ... just call Matt :-)
About your Tires ... not more than 35´s ... Trails are being dug out by huge Tires and heavy Vehicles spinning those Wheels ... basically
making the Trails more and more unsuitable for us "standard" Weekend Crawlers who have to use their everyday-Jeep on its 31´s to
have some fun out there.
You are doing great stuff, keep it up!!!
