    Why do we want our muscle to be sensitive to stretch during contraction? What does it look like physically when gamma helps intrafusal fiber contract?

    • @NonstopNeuron
      @NonstopNeuron  Před rokem +5

      Its not 'during' contraction. Its in contracted 'state'. Like for biceps of arms, you want your elbow to be sensitive to stretch even when its somewhat flexed. Now as I am typing this, I am realing that sensitivity to stretch matters more when muscle is somewhat contracted. I mean, stretch on fully extended elbow would break it..!!!😅 Anyway,. I hope you got the point.

      Head to search bar in CZcams
      Type "Uchicago online" And go playlist 17.0
      If u want directly alpha Gamma co activation go to 17.2 video.
      This guy non stop neuron doesn't know how to interpret the concept well.

    Hey great video. I wanted to know what is the role of gamma motor neurons in preventing hyperrelexia. As I read that upper motor neuron lesions lead to loss of the gamma neuron reflex.

    I have 2 questions:
    - Does gamma motoneurons only activate in a voluntary contraction, and not in the myotatic reflex?
    - Does the contraction involve shortening or stretching of the extrafusal fibers?
    Greetings from 🇪🇦!

    • @Chowanana
      @Chowanana Před rokem +3

      Gamma motor neurons also activate as part of the stretch reflex because, just like alpha motor neurons, they are innervated by tipe 1a fibers. If gamma motor neurons didn't activate after extrafusal contraction, the muscle spindle would become slack and would stop measuring the stretch of the muscle.
      Contraction causes fibers to shorten, both intra- and extrafusal.

    Ur saying that muscle spindle becomes slack with extrafusal fibres contraction. Ok
    Then the presence of myofilaments at the ends of muscle spindle should cause more slack due to contraction of them by gamma motor neuron...
    Explain it clearly
    U should have said a little more about myofilaments at the ends of intrafusal fibres.
    If myofilaments at the ends of intrafusal fibres contract how could spindle become stretch??????

    I think at 2:33, it is relaxation of intra by gamma , like the opposite to extrafusal movement???

    • @NonstopNeuron
      @NonstopNeuron  Před 11 měsíci

      No. Contraction of extrafusal fibers loosens the stretch sensitive central region of the spindle. So to make tighten it, the intrafusal fibers also contract. If you are not able to comprehand this, think of it like this: the length of central region should be maintain constant to maintain its sensitivity. Now watch the animations again. You will get it. I hope it helps.

      @@NonstopNeuron here contraction of intra in the sense increase in length or decrease in length .

    • @youtubeok9228
      @youtubeok9228 Před 11 měsíci

      Because in the video for contraction the intra is increased in length I thought it is stretching. I'm really getting confused 😕
