    Thanks for the great walk thru! Lovely guitar, cool playing. Really impressed with all the tonal variety this one offers and then suddenly that Piezo! Wow.

    Riggs, this is one case in which the mods are actually an improvement! Any time I've played an electric with an added piezo I tend to always keep that pickup mixed with the magnetic pickups, I get spoiled by that extra clarity. Now, I've been mostly a Fender guy for 45+ years, but for the last 10 I've been putting the Gretschs to good use. Currently I have an orange 6120, the first year they started making them in Japan, and an orange 6120 Western with Dynasonic pickups. Both feature the impeccable Japanese craftsmanship. A few days ago I bought a 2022 players edition jet in champagne sparkle and used it at an outdoor gig. Before I bought it I wondered why it was so expensive but it instantly proved its worth sonically and everyone felt compelled to comment on its appearance. Its got the Tim Shaw pickups, no load tone pot, and a treble bleed master volume. Playing a Gretsch is a cool way to stand out from the crowd and man, for those pedal steel ripping country licks the bridge pickup excels! Your guitar is very unique and has ALL the tones, and red always looks amazing against a black shirt! Congratulations to your wife for that gift and I probably don't have to tell you to never sell it ❤️

    Riggs that is a Beautiful Gretsch and it sounds every bit as good as it looks! Definitely a keeper for sure, gotta love Gretsch guitars, I have two. Nice playing by the way too! A G5220 in Casino Gold w/the Broadtrons and I recently treated myself to a beautiful Japanese made G6129T-59 VS Silver Jet w/Filtertrons, outstanding guitar! The cheaper G5220 is no slouch either

    In the last few years I've really been into Gretsch guitars. They give a sound that's somewhere between a hot Tele and a PAF Les Paul. Really flexible. It doesn't get murky when pushed but the pickups are quiet, unlike a Tele.

    You got me thinking. I'm gonna try that mud switch for jazz. As much as they sound great, they look even cooler. Probably the sexiest guitar in my arsenal. I have a Japanese made black jet.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  Před 9 měsíci

      I LOVE the mud switch for jazz. Way easier than rolling off the tone knob, especially if it’s just for the intro of a song before going into a bigger section that requires a fuller sound.

    The bridge is different than on a regular Gretsch. It looks like an Elliot Easton signature Gretsch. Elliot Easton is written on the pickguard. The bridge is all metal like on a Gibson.

  • @therealtech833

    Fantastic playing, appreciate the time you took to make the video. Not a big fan of these newer gretches. To me they cheapen out on the electronics and hardware. The version of the filtertron on this line of guitars is decent, but not great. By comparison, the Reverend with their version of these pickups called the retroblast, seems to have better Dynamics, and with their bass contour knob, more diverse sound. Also top notch Korean electronics, roller bridge and locking tuners. I supposed to most important thing is what sounds good to you, and the feel of the instrument. The reason why we had purchased the gretch originally was the look and feel. As time has gone on, a very big disappointment in the hardware and electronics.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  Před rokem +1

      Yeah, I’ll probably swap the pickups soon to try something else. They leave me wanting a bit more.

  • @scottiriddellonbass

    I love the look and feel of these guitars but find the low output pickups a hassle, if i swap out from something like a les paul or strat in a live situation there's a drastic change in volume, it needs completely different amp settings.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  Před 2 lety +1

      Interesting! These don’t seem to be particularly low output. The EQ is obviously brighter than traditional humbuckers, but it’s definitely not lower output than my strat.

    • @scottiriddellonbass
      @scottiriddellonbass Před 2 lety +1

      @@RiggsTaylor I had the pro jet double cut which was lovely as a stand-alone guitar but had roughly a third less overall volume than my Std Strat, noticeably quieter.. I tried a similarly equipped pro jet just in case mine was at fault.. It was just the same.. still a great guitar!

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  Před 2 lety +1

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  Před rokem

      Yeah it’s the Elliot Easton! Has been discontinued for some time, but I see the green and black models around from time to time. The piezo was a mod by the previous owner.

    Because Malcolm Young of AC/DC played a Gretch, it established Gretch guitars as a solid Rock n Roll instrument. No further justification is needed more than the intro guitar on “ Hell’s Bells” .

    • @RiggsTaylor

    I really prefer the original Jet design personally. The "players" style with the lower neck set (and a damn Bigsby with a tension bar... yuk) just feels like a variation of a Les Paul. The character of the original Jet just wasn't there for me. I may have got a dud of a guitar, but I really disliked it.

    • @RiggsTaylor
      @RiggsTaylor  Před rokem

      This one definitely doesn’t have a Les Paul vibe when it comes to tone/how I utilize it. The “mud” switch is super helpful, pickups are way lower output (which I’ll probably swap), and overall a very different guitar aside from the single cutaway. But that’s just my experience with this one.

    If you buy a Gretsch with real Filtertron Pickups you will end up buying another Gretsch! They are very addictive!
