A Vintage Classic: The 1966 Fender Stratocaster 🎸
WE GOT ANOTHER ONE! Somehow John found an even cleaner '66 Strat than the one I posted a few weeks ago. Is this one better? You decide!

Vintage Gibson Humbucker SHOOTOUT! PAF vs. Patent # Pickups (1961 ES-335 vs 1964 ES-335)

In this video I'm comparing a couple of amazing guitars from @truevintageguitar - a '61 Gibson ES-355 and a '64 ES-335. The later "Patent Applied For" pickups in the 355 are constructed exacly like the early "Patent Number" Pickups in this 335. While they are two different guitars and there are more factors to the overall tone, it was interesting to hear how these two compare! All sounds are th...

Seems like Pelican sucks when it comes to warranty.
Seems like it
First u2 song I ever heard and I was like 4 years old, made me a fan for life!
I heard it on one of those “Now That’s What I Call Music!” Compilation CD’s my mom had in the car, and it stuck!
Absolutely fantastic have a wonderful weekend riggs also Canada day is Monday where I live ❤😊
Thank you - and awesome!
Wow. Total dishonest and shady. Everyone ban and quit purchasing Pelican. Buy Nanuk. Way better company. Way better made. Way better prices.
Yeah it was sketchy for sure. Heard great things about Nanuk!
Cool video and you got great tones from both pedals. Honestly I prefer Germanium for the reason you mentioned about the very beautiful clean up tone. I would be curious to hear you compare the Haze to another Germanium one. Even a Dunlop Mini (I have and like). It would be useful to hear that distinction. I bought a Smiley this week and jury's out for me right now on whether to keep or sell...
I would definitely love to do more comparisons with it! I’m hoping to get a few different models from a few different builders to do a video just like that. Probably more boutique stuff, but some of it more affordable!
@RiggsTaylor Thanks for the perfect comparison in different situations! I liked A the most and I was sure it was the real amp, so in the end was surprised how good Dream 65 is. btw, can you share your settings of the Dream? what cab and mod did you use in this video?
Thanks! No mod - greenback speaker. Bass and treble just below half, and the volume right around 9:00!
@@RiggsTaylor thank you!
Jeggings!
Everyone knows tone comes from the pants 👖
I'm very sad to say, my ears prefer the Isle of Tone Haze. I bought the Smiley when it was introduced. I also own, kingTone Mini Fuzz V2, with Si & Ge switch... That said, I'm not switching. As you mentioned in the preface to the comparison... The $🤑. Good on YOU, to go for it and take it on. Thank you for the share, video, research & trading up time costs, any malcontent isn't appreciating!
Thanks man! I’ve always wanted to try out the Kingtone miniFuzz- especially the new version!
You talk too much!!!!!
Feel free to fast forward 😎
Is there a way to make a profile without a performance and effects attached to it? Everytime I load a profile I made it loads all the effect blocks that were on it during the time of profiling
Yeah! You can disable/delete effects blocks in the editor.
I think one of the best uses for something like this would be running it through the effects loops of an amp or into a power amp and a cab. That would be my use. I love my Mesa mark iv but it doesn’t quite have a fender clean sound, but a lot of the saturation of tube sound for me comes from big clean headroom with a pushed power amp, so I’ll imagine that brings this pedal to life
Never hurts to have tubes in the signal chain! I bet it would sound great.
Sounds amazing!
Thanks man!
Killer!
Thanks man! A lot more to come - new video tomorrow!
Great cover of hold on loosely
I don’t think I know that song!
Do you recommend I run a separate reverb pedal or will the built-in reverb on the Dream do the job effectively?
If you just use a little bit of reverb normally, the Dream 65 can do that. If you like more ambient reverbs and being able to have more control, definitely get a reverb pedal!
But how! 🤯
Crazy right?!
But really how? Did you explain how you did that?
It uses a stereo cable from the factory to send one pickup to each amp - I labeled which side is which pickup in the video. I used a TRS (stereo) 1/4” cable and split it out using the El Capistan delay pedal to each amp!
@@RiggsTaylor 🤤
Yeh. These are great guitars. I am blessed to own a 1973 ES-355 and have really enjoyed it. When you plug one of these creatures into two amps, you will wonder why you ever bothered with mono guitars. And the Varitone makes them fab for playing variety music and Beatles/British Invasion stuff ...
Absolutely! Playing in mono live is normal and understandable, but playing in stereo is SO fun. Some people hate on the Varitone, but I dig it!
I really like the upstroke strum you use in a lot of your videos
Thanks man! Appreciate that 🤘🏻
I didn't know jim carrey could play guitar
😂 I’ll take it. I’d swap bank accounts with him!
can you change your title and put Roadrunner RR5TEG electric Guitar case - would help. this was hard to find. perhaps put a RR5teg in your tags - thanks
Great idea - will do!
I cut my teeth on my brother's brand new 1960 Jazzmaster. I was a fan, long before most of these players were even hatched ... heh-heh ... I am one of the first Jazzmasterologists in the entire world, so-to-speak. This one is gorge ... what? And go ahead ... Learn The Ventures version of "Ghost Riders In The Sky." You will have loads of fun with that one!! And good on you, knowing how to use that Rhythm switch!
Thanks man! This one is a 1966 Candy Apple Red, all original. Killer guitar. I love the Rhythm switch- one of the best parts of offsets!
actually it does make sense bcoz the Silver Sky's neck profile is made to model JM's late 64 strat.
Exactly! Same era. Knowing that before playing this it totally made sense.
dude, your videos are incredible! great playing!
Thanks so much man! Subscribe for more - a lot coming soon!
I used two-prong Fender amps FOR YEARS and survived. Always better to be as safe as possible; but those amps are not as treacherous as today's amp techs will make you believe. You can test the polarity to the PA system by touching those tuners to the microphone ... if it sizzles, a ground needs to be changed.
I totally agree. In the words of well-known amp tech Skip Simmons, “if they’re really that dangerous, where are all the dead guys?” 😂
코드치는데 인상 무지 쓰네
I have no idea what this means, but… thanks?

If you look at the specs sheets and actual readings Asatobucker and Thornbucker seems like 100% the same pickups. Suhrs just fooling us i guess lol i think the nickel cover is what made a huge tone diff.
They’re quite different really. Resistance readings are only part of the story, but they definitely have some similarities.
@@RiggsTaylor what i mean, i literally studied and opened up my suhr asato and thornbucker. (Both 52mm's w raw nickel cover) Everything is pretty much the same, the magnets, wire, everything. I wish you demoed the same raw nickel version or the same plastic top version. So u guys would know what i am talkin about.
Thanks for the great walk thru! Lovely guitar, cool playing. Really impressed with all the tonal variety this one offers and then suddenly that Piezo! Wow.
Thanks man! Yeah, it’s a super cool guitar. I wish I still had it!
Top 3 Pelican Alternatives = Nanuk, Evergreen & Apache (by Harbor Freight)
Need to check out Evergreen!
You can make your own tuning easily by taking a note then applying that to a string
Yeah! Lots of ways to experiment!
Nanuk has now entered chat...
😂😂
Fantastic ❤😊
Killer pedal but that price is absurd.
Definitely not worth it to everyone, but still more affordable than its vintage counterparts. There are great pedals for much less, but it’s cool to have something with this much attention to detail and craftsmanship put into it!
Great looking/playing guitar!
Thanks, and agreed!
Love your videos Rigg! What's ur delay pedal there?
Thanks man! This is the Strymon El Capistan!
Do you mind if I have that guitar?
I wish I still had it! Sold it to fund my Frank Brothers Arcade last year.
as expected they sound identical through youtube; and tbh a pair of seth lovers or burstbuckers wouldve sounded the same. YMMV esp in the room.
There are a lot of great modern pickups - Sunbear makes my favorite humbuckers. Definitely best to be in the room with guitars like this!
Had a 66 ES335 with pat# pickups...sounded incredible!
@@edwardzizic7218 I’m really starting to favor the patent # pickups over PAF’s overall. The only exception is the 1958 Les Paul Custom (2 pickup) version a few videos ago… that had the BEST sounding humbuckers I’ve ever heard.
You should try the Heritage 535 (ES335 style), it's a better guitar!
Better than one of these? That's debatable.
@@TeleCaster66 its not debatable, these are better than heritage
It’s tough to be these two, but I’m friends with the Heritage guys and would love to compare them!
@@jfar3340 No chance, everybody knows as you see on the internet almost daily that Gibsons are not good guitars at least for the money, FACT!! They are way overpriced and not worth it, Heritage guitars are still handmade and worth the money, though they are getting expensive! Heritage Les Paul's, 335 styles, and their Jazz guitars are THE best Gibsons ever made, and they are still made with a couple of the Gibson luthiers from the 60's! If you want 50's and 60's style Gibsons, try Heritage guitars, they are built and sound at least as good as the best Gibsons and better than any Gibson ever made! I have a 1993 Heritage 535, and on stage it kicks all the guitars asses and folks always want to know what the hell I'm using, well they know now and so do musicians who are now realizing the u.s. still makes the best Gibson Guitars named Heritage, THEY ARE BETTER, FACT!!!
Thanks! I was looking for cases and almost went with the Pelican because I thought the warranty would make the higher price worth it. Going with Nanuk!
I’ve heard great things about Nanuk!
Hi Riggs, If you could edit this video so that the similar clips were back to back, ie Neck pickup on the 64 then the 61, middle on one then the other etc it would be far more useful to compare the two guitars. Thanks and lovely playing
Thanks! I debated it and will add timestamps so it’s easier to navigate between them!
Zac, that dadgum Suhr imitation Stratocaster suits you quite well!! I hear that the MojoTone ANTHEM sounds real fine in these thing-a-muh-bobs ... Yes. Symbiotic relationship, guitars and good amps ... and a D-120 might cook in one of those amps.
Just scooped me one. P90s.!!
Awesome! I have my own now (on my channel) but already want another 😅
It appears that there might be surface damage on the case, but it is not clear if it pre-existed before the fracture or is the result of the initiating event. If you believe that it occurred simultaneously with the main fracture then it is clearly the responsibility of the airline. Nothing is indestructible; and I understand Pelican's position if this is what happened. Having said that, if the case was not damaged prior to the flight, and the case exploded due to a malfunction of the depressurization valve then it is Pelican's fault. My opinion only. Good luck.
Valid points! All damage was sustained because of this event.
Who bought it?
Not Joe Bonamassa, haha.
@@RiggsTaylor Vince Gill I knew it.
@@user-tx1ec9wb1z no one famous actually - but good guess!
@@RiggsTaylor Out of all the vintage guitars I've seen that one would be my pick.
@@user-tx1ec9wb1z it’s pretty remarkable. Love this color combo!
Thanks brother, won't be buying any pelican products 🤙 customer service 👎
Happy to inform! Yeah, they disappointed me with this one.
B was the amp. I have the dream as well.
It’s a great pedal! Hard to beat the real thing, especially a prime example. I bet it’s closer to the reissue Deluxe Reverb.
I’m just trying to figure out if ur name is really Riggs Taylor because if it is it couldn’t be more perfect for a guitarist.
Haha, it really is 😂 The least musical family in the world so it definitely wasn’t intended for me to be a musician!
More tremolo!
Haha, plenty of those on the channel and new ones on the way!
Been listening to a lot of Robert Cray lately and I instantly recognize that special attack of a hardtail 😉
It’s definitely more “immediate” than a typical strat. Growing up as a tele player, this feels more like home!
